Did you guys notice that RC is wearing True Religion jeans? he is so cute. i love how happy Celine looks next to him. what a great mom!!

That's the question upon seeing this week's Hello! magazine, featuring Céline Dion and her 6-year-old son, René-Charles.

 

The child's long locks taper into tousled, pectoral-length curls. He looks pretty girly.

 

Is this a problem?

 

Obviously not for his mother. Or for his father, René Angélil, who jokes, "He'll be 40 years old by the time she gets around to cutting his hair."

 

"It could cause problems for a child if someone thinks he's a girl rather than a boy," says child psychologist Dianne O'Connor, "but you can't really say it's harmful."

 

She explains, "Maybe the child wants long hair – if he's imitating a rock star, or (he's) artistic and creative. It could be a cool thing."

 

While girly hair could be a problem in Kapuskasing, René-Charles grew up in Las Vegas and he's not the only celebrity son with extended tresses.

 

Kate Hudson has gone to, er, great lengths to explain son Ryder's do. She could've resorted to a rock star rationale – daddy is Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson – but opted instead for the Hasidic tradition defence.

 

"I just couldn't cut it," she told The View last year. "I'm part Jewish, Hasidic Jews – they don't cut their kids' hair until they're 3 ... so I just figured maybe on his third birthday, I'll cut it. I'm going to cry my eyes out."

 

Long hair is not just about mommy's reluctance to let her precious baby become a little man. It's also seen as stylish.

 

Says salon owner Paul Pecorella about his grandson James, age 2: "We keep his hair long. We like him with long hair." When it's time to bring out the scissors, he says, "We'll just trim the bangs and a little at the back."

 

Says James' mother, hairstylist Chiara Pecorella, "It's a personal preference, a style that looks nice."

 

Still, she says, about René-Charles' hair – echoing the view of almost everyone who passes a newsstand this week – "I, personally, thought it was long."

Yes, those last two paragraphs were awful. I still cant believe she went on stage the night she found out about her father. And everytime I read about her falling apart backstage after the show it just kills me. I think it was also in For Keeps. :(
