From BroadwayWorld.com:

Céline Dion, now into the final year of her five-year run in “A New Day” at Caesars Palace, is an absolutely must-see show because it is really and truly an “only in Las Vegas” experience.

The show is opulent, designed and directed by Franco Dragone who started in the spectacle business with Cirque du Soleil. The visuals are stunning and the stage is huge. Dion’s big voice keeps up with what’s happening although, sometimes, she disappears into the opulence, completely lost to the audience, which has to really look closely to find her.

Céline is gracious, a lovely hostess who sings many of her hits. Every moment is scripted and, watching, one gets the feeling that she is at times constrained by that script which does not allow her to be herself.

She’s got that big voice and it is backed by a cast of about 50 and works in front of a video screen — used stunningly well — that is 39 feet tall. The three-dimensional effects alone leave one breathless.

Out of all the big hits, the big arrangements, my favorite was a charming relatively quiet version of “I’ve Got the World On A String.” Backed by balloons, it was…well…sweet.

On the other hand, her rendition of “Seduce Me,” surrounded by shirtless men, was kind of icky. No matter how hard anyone tries, Céline will never be a “Seduce Me” sex symbol. She projects talent and glaring niceness. That staging was just uncomfortable to watch.

On the whole, though, the high price — topping out at $204.55 — doesn’t seem to leave people feeling like they didn’t get their money’s worth. Judging from the comments overheard in the exiting crowd the audience was pleased.

Like the song about her heart, Céline will go on. But, in Las Vegas, only until the end of the year. See her here while you can.

I've thought this since day one. I know there's only so much she can say every night but the previous tours allowed her talk freely for 10 minutes about something that happened to her or what she was up to or to tell a joke whereas in Vegas she might deviate from the script for a few seconds every now and then to say then RC was there or to say how many shows she had now done. Listening to bootlegs from the FIY/LTAL tour, you hear the audience connecting to her during her speeches, when she'd talk about previous times she was in the city or foods she was trying. Vegas is amazing but I've always thought her saying the same thing night after night was a bit impersonal. I suppose with so many shows it's just easier and more practicle and there are less things to talk about when you aren't somewhere new. All this will change soon though......

that pretty good.

seduces me is not about eroctic sex, its about making love, so celine doesnt need to be a gaint sex symbol she needs to be a symbol of love, which she is! the song ans staging is perfect!

the person who worte it probably only had sex before, and probably never really made love.

I agree with the script thing...but it made it all more worthwile when we threw Celine off during the DVD taping when everyone shouted "We love you more!" (while leaning forward) cuz then Celine just had to respond with "I love you the most! Ha! Now beat that!" :w00t:

Celine doesn't have to be a sex symbol to be considered sexy. She represents love and its many forms. From it's shallow water to it's deepest seas. This is what Celine Dion is all about. I can't wait to see the show myself soon.

Yeah I wish she could have a little bit more time to interact with the audience in the show. If they could have just built in a few breaks where she could speak "unscripted." Sometimes she can do a little of that but these shows have time constraints so there's only so much she can go off script. Maybe she'll be able to say more when she go's on tour. B)

This show is meant to be more of a theatrical performance than a concert. And I think that is the way they want to present it. It makes sense that it's scripted. What interesting things is Celine doing these days that she could possibly touch on. I do agree that it's very obvious with Celine when she's been told to say something specific as oppose to something spontaneous. We know Celine plays off the audience's enthusiasm, so on the specific night of this review maybe the audience wasn't too responsive to her. If she plugged her albums every night (and at this point in her life they can sell themselves without any promo) than can you imagine 4000 people running the boutique to buy one every evening??!!

I am VERY comfortable when I watch Seduces me with the half-naked dancers... Its the only song I am looking more at the dancers than at Céline... :kicking:

The 'complaints' about her using a script, I can agree with that. When you see the show only one time, it does not matter. When you see it a whole week, it starts to look fake. I miss the real interaction with the crowd, not the 'I love you too's' but the more spontanious reactions. I can imagine Céline gets bored by these standard lines as well. I never understood why she does not take more time to get personal with the crowd. She wanted to invite us to her home, remember? Nice invitation, when you say the same every night! I know Caesars holds on to a complete schedule and all of that, but this is the only thing she could have done better. For the fans, but also for herself. :()

1) Seduces me may look strange for the ones who doesn't follow Céline. She's not trying to be a sex symbol.. She's only interpreting the song...

2) Céline will go on!! I love to hear that!
