JJG + Céline = any possible in future? Your thoughts?

I was listening to "C'est la faute a la vie", a magnificent classic written by JJG in 2003 for Patricia Kaas. This one had this certain typical (in a positive sense) sound of JJG that I couldn't help but think that it's sucha pity they don't work together anymore the same way they did during the 90's.

As JJG said he's not "fertile" enough to give Céline one full album of new songs again but I wiull repeat it again: I'd rather have 10 crap JJG songs than 10 good Veneruso ones. I mean it. There is no comparison and the magic that is even in his "less good" songs is still there, and it's breathtaking sometimes!

If Céline was to reunite with him in the future it would be the best thing ever since SISDA. haha

Till today there was NOT EVEN ONE producer or writer that gave Céline something that could be remotely compared to the gems JJG has given to her. Sad truth!

hmmmmmmmmmmm I'm not sure about this one... Let's face it... he had loads of things to write about when 1F4T was coming up...(AND THE LAST TIME HE WROTE FOR HER WAS 5/6 YEARS BEFORE!) the stardom, Renés cancer, birth of RC and things like that... and what did we get?

EJTEA - a general love song

DMDB - a very good song, but not something in the line of Célines life

JLD - this is the closets thing concering Célines life self.

So I think as a songwriter... he's not able to write for Céline... but I do WISH that he guides Céline writing herself! :w00t:  Sure he can produce the songs and whatever... but the only thing he can give lyricwise is as guide or co-writer!

I don't agree with you... Eddy Marnay has given Céline wonderful songs about growing up as a little girl! Sure some may be cheesy, but to say JJ is the only one who gave her gems is doing Eddy injustice... Eddy gave her erm baby gems!

How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th

There will, for sure. I mean now Celine is certainly delivering us her last conventional and commercial albums....very commercial songs, promo, tour...In french and in english. I think JJG made all is possible to give her his best and launch a respectfull and succesfull career. Now in this way and context he certainly thinks that he has nothing new and interesting to give, and as we all know, he would personnaly never accept to give her a song of which is not proud.

After that, I'm sure everything will be different. Less commercial pressure for Celine, more time....maybe JJG will find again its inspiration, and there will be in all the cases new songs here and there, and maybe new projects in the future years.

Well that's how I see the things.

And of course that's a pity that JJG didn't wrotte at least a song. Normally JJG should have writen and compose a song. That's what René said. Not enough of time, not enough proud with its song? For sure, it will miss musically something in this album.

Maybe that's not the best JJG songs, but those songs have definatly something more than all the Veneruzo's songs.

jte...Musically and lyrically, the simplicity, the soft poetry...The intelligent and incredible progressiveness of the song, to finish by "But you don't hear me" the acoustic sound of the dries guitars... make this song different from all what she's done before on d'Eux and SSDA. This song gives me shivers. :in_love: And even if the change is far from being abrupt, we can feel the implication of JJG to bring her toward a new kind of production.

dmdb...The lyrics, the sound... Fantastic. :in_love: The vocabulary which is employed in this song is very strong and different from all the words that we are used to hear, and not just in the celine's songs but in general. Great great job. Again the volonty to bring her toward something new.

jld....The volonty of Celine, and JJG made it right. I don't like too much this song... But but but.... I will prefer to hear this king of new stuff, than the majority of Veneruzo's songs.

About Eddy Marnay...Come on... Yes that's touching, that's the begining of Celine, she was young, she was searching herself.... Oh that's nice... But objectively his songs are quite bad.

I was listening to 1fe4t and it is amazing. I'm really thinking about givin in as present to a friend of mine who hates Celine, or thinks that she sings only ballads. She's rockish in this album. And all songs are like... they're meant to be together, you know? Its not like, "Ok, lets put Have you ever been in love in this album, because it will be a single" They were all lovely.

And about JJ Goldman, he's the man! O would love to see him with Celine again!

I have to agree. He wrote her real gems. Everybody remembers Pour que tu m'aimes encore and S'il suffisait d'aimer. That's a good song. Still good after 12 years. Tell me who remembers Tout l'or des hommes or Je ne vous oublie pas? - Je t'ai oubliée quand même :msn-tongue:

Goldman as a person, I don't know, but she should definitely find this unique sound he gave her again by him or by anybody else.

JLD - this is the closets thing concering Célines life self.

Somehow this makes want to go and tell her "get a life" :ninja:

:pinch:

And on 1F4T JTE, DMDB and eventually JLD are THE songs that contribute to give a little someting to the album. Which by the way except 2/3 songs (hmmm by whom ?) is a good album, very calm, pleasant, slightly folk, and without any claim. I'm not for JJG in every french project, I would die for new interesting producers. But for the moment I do not see a thing that we could reproach him.

I'm not sure that a lot of people are interesting of listening Céline repeating herself in a bad way musically as it will certainly be the case on d'Elles while the french variety is not going well actually.

I don't agree here, julien. Céline isn't repeating herself on D'elles at all. Her devise isn't to reinvent herself with each release but to put some new aspects into her repertoire. With every French release of hers she said something to her environment, to her fans. The message always shone over the rather generic musical production.

JJG is by no means amazing as producers but somehow he knows exactly what his song need. They do have their TYPICAL and even generic Goldmanian sound... the problem here is with us - if we would have Goldman over and over we would be saying all the time that it's enough already! That she should work with some new producers etc. Now that she did finally, she did NOT chose very wisely as it seems and went into deep into this rich commercial well of cheap generic producers whose sound can't be compared to Goldman's typical generic but very genuine scheme.

We thus now what we have lost with Goldman's (temporary) depart. What we have to notice as well is that it is also HIM who began recently to ask OTHERS to produce and write music for his albums. This may indicate he may be satisfied with their quality standards. I do hope he will reconsider, though and that someday somehow we will hear an album that is purely Goldman/Dion/Benzi/Kapler like D'eux and SISDA both (SISDA to a little less extent) were.

I think she has to renew herself, renew her music, we already had three or 4 jjg albums.

She knew it was time for something new, it may sound a little more commercial but honoustly

1f4t didn't do that well it was quickly forgotten. It had some great precious songs but that's it

I love jjg for his songs but she has to do something new if she is to have a come back

it must be a commercial one otherwise it wouldn't be...

I think this year she will have one...

You're right seb... I am just very rude concerning her french carrer as I except the best. And this time, I can't accept her choices concerning the musicians, composers. That was so fantastic, the idea of the autors...And so on. That doesn't mean I won't like the album, I already love A cause. But you know what I want, I won't repeat myself again...... ^_^

Maybe we will see JJG and Celine do a project sometime latter on. But for now I'm glad that Celine wants to do something different for herself.

I don't think JJ can write a better French album than D'eux... JJ knows it's his best work and he knows it will be VERY difficult to do it again or maybe even come close to it. People will expect that level and maybe he just wants to prevent disappointment. He can wait a while and try to write for Céline and only do something with it when it lives up to his own standards...

I think an album can only be a succes if all the ingredients for a succes are there: reinvention, the rights songs, the right producers, the right sound... and for that you need to change and go other ways. You can't do the trick again with the same old...and that's probably what JJ is holding back. Marnay was sided too at a certain point...

Well, JJG for me is the best forever and ever!! All the songs I like, hers, Garou's or anyone else's, have a touch of JJG! He may think he's not able to write a full album anymore, but his touch is always there... And I guess that's the important. He's a great producer too and he can do great things! So I say there's still a long future for him and Céline!

I agree that she has to renew herself, but who says that Goldman isn't the right person to help her do it?

I would welcome a new sound from her.

ANDHC and OH weren't new. They were full of songs that sounded so much like going back into the late 90ies

1F4T was a failed try to incorporate a more acoustic and simple sound

Miracle was a failed try to go back to her basics.

S'il n'en restait qu'une is really good French pop, not really something new. It's more like Sardou meets Halliday. It's good no question.

Actually I listened to Goldman's interview from Option Musique. Listen to him talk about how Les Enfoires keeps him so busy right now. Wtf? It makes me think : writer's block
