Céline and writing own songs

Everytime we ask ourself why doesn't Céline right her own songs.. well one of the things she said herself was:

1 she sees singing and writing as two different carreers

2 she doesn't thing she's good enough

some things we can come up with:

3 she's a perfectionist... and maybe too critical on her own writing

4 she didn't finish school and maybe she's afraid she won't be good in writing (knowlege of grammar etc) because of that...

5 Céline simply doesn't have much time! :mellow:

But maybe the biggest reason of all is that she wasn't guided or encouraged by René or the three marvelous writers she has worked with! :ermm:

1 Eddy Marnay

The man of over more then 300 songs. He totally knew Céline... all the things she was going through in her teenage years, he wrote down! Why didn't he let Céline write about those things herself? Or co-write? He's the one who should have thought Céline how to write a song!

2 Luc Plamandon

He was amazed by Céline, let her sing the Tycoon songs, and wrote a few songs especially for her... why not help her?

3 Jean-Jacques Goldman

3 and now almost 4 albums together!!! But always as the composer/singer! If there is one guy who could guide and teach Céline it's him!!! I totally don't get it! JJ could have at least write ONE song with her!! I hope the next project they'll be working on... is a album TOGETHER!! :cry:

It's been stated on more than one occasion, even by Rene, that Celine has written songs but is far to critical of her own work to ever perform them. Moreover Rene has said he's also tried to get Celine to play instruments on stage because she is more than capable, we all know she's a fine pianist for example.

I hope one day we will hear some of Celine's own songs, probably in French mind you, but I fear we wont.

I don't know how much Celine can play the piano, because I've only seen a clip of her playing a little part of the first movement of "Moonlight Sonata." But based on that, I would not call that "fine" because what she played, even non-piano students can play - it's beginner's level.

Rene said she's a very good piano player and that she does sing for friends and family, just not in public. I remember that even Franco said she can play intruments and wanted her to play on stage.... and she's not doing that. Somebody should secretly record her and play it back to her, so she can see she's good.

I volunteer to do that :giggle:

That was just a little clip of her playing to spend some time. I thought it was just fine.

Nobody's asking her to be the next Michael Nyman anyways. I think she could play well enough to do it onstage. I wish she would.

I too think Celine should and of course CAN do more than "just" singing! She plays piano very well... you can see it e.g. in the SISDA making of! adorable!

I'm sure someday Celine will release a very artistic and smooth album in english. With self- or co-written songs and maybe her on the piano through the album. Though I don't expect that to happen before she's at least 45!

Until then she should write and compose for her... I'm sure there will come a day when she's certain, that this what she's done is worth hearing for the world!

uuuhmm no... she added a couple of words, and changed some sentences with THLAL and she wrote the music for TPDB, not the lyrics!

She DID however came up with the melody and the corus of Don't save it all for x-mas day! :wub:

but the point of this thread is actually... wouldn't Céline write her own songs now, if she had been encouraged and helped by Eddy/René/Luc?JJ?! :bye1:

She wrote most of the lyrics on Don't Save it.... The other guy said he worked only a little bit on the melody and lyrics, but was mostly done. And she has written English lyrics for Tout pres du bonheur, very nice lyrics, just too personal for a song to put on CD. And let's not forget she co-wrote 2 songs when she was just 12, for her first album, "Ce n'etait qu'un reve" and "Grand maman".

Celine said it herself in an interview that because she didn't finish school, her knowledge of the French language is limited when it comes to writing. She's very insecure about it.

I'm not denying her of her ability to play. She's been singing for over 2 and a 1/2 decades. I'm sure she took piano lessons from her siblings or a private teacher while she was younger. But I doubt she has any time to train and polish her fingers for a piano performance. Celine knows her strengths and weaknesses more than anyone else. And while in the spotlight as a singer, she wants to show her strength in its full potential. Sitting down at the piano and having your brain work twice as hard is different. Now, that's what makes Elton John so talented - he adlibs by lips and by fingers.

I find it so interesting because she's so confident on stage, yet so insecure about playing an instrument in public. Its very sweet but I'd love to see her be more confident and maybe play the piano for one or two songs during a show.

It would be nice to see her write and record at least a few of her own songs, even if she just put one each album. I think with her current show, it has so much going on that I'm not surprised she does not play the piano in it, or other instruments, although she does just about everything else! I'm hoping that after LV when she tours that maybe at some point she would play one song on the piano, or even guitar since she plays that too. It would be fun to see someday.

i don't want to see celine play instruments...i don't think its her thing.JUst because she can doesn't mean she should do it or she could end up cooking on stage

but i definetely want to hear her perform her own songs and maybe a little bit more rock music, where's that duet with Amy Lee i asked

I think it would be great to see Celine write more material and play instruments on stage, but she wants to be professional for her fans. If she dosn`t think its good enough she won`t do it.

Hey Shaun we also know that Celine writes beautiful songs. She co-wrote Don't Save it All For Christmas Day and wrote another song I"m Gonna Love You Forever.

Maybe on her new english album she'll surprise us!

Well, for me, playing the piano and sing along is not that difficult. It is strange how artists can work with many things at the same time. The first time I tried on the drums, I can play it weell. I mean, she's very gifted in music. And she has been playing the piano longer than me for 20 years. It wouldn't be any problem or difficult for her.

It's just the perfectionism problem we've got to crack it out from her. I'd love to see her played the piano!

Personally, I don't miss to see Céline playing an instrument on stage BUT I would soooo LOVE to hear more of her own songs!!! "I gonna love you forever", "Drop by drop".... and so many others she hides in her shelves...

It would be so great to hear them one day, to her self-written lyrics... actually that's the only thing I miss on Céline's career...

You know, I also like Lara Fabian, I guess most of you know her songs? Lara writes many songs by herself, most of them.

I wish badly, that someone encourage Céline enogh... or, better say, that she will be self-assured enought to take this decision and show us her own work!...

Paul recalls that at Christmas time, he and Celine used to write songs together. Paul would compose the music and Celine would write the lyrics
