mirage Posted December 6, 2006 at 10:09 AM Posted December 6, 2006 at 10:09 AM Heavy metal veteran Dee Snider Loves Céline Dion(7:00 a.m. GMT) In the early '90s heavy metal veteran Dee Snider reluctantly wrote the holiday song: "The Magic of Christmas Day" at the request of his wife, Suzette. "When she asked me to write a Christmas song, I told her she was insane. I said, `When was the last time you heard a new Christmas song that captured that Christmas feeling?' "`Happy Christmas (War is Over)' by John Lennon is the last time I heard a new song that had that feeling where you say, `Wow, that feels like Christmas.' And she said, `You're a classically trained counter-tenor. You can do it." Snider gave a tape of the song to his wife as a gift and let the recording engineer keep a copy. Years later, the engineer (by then a producer) called and told Snider that Céline Dion planned to record the song. "I said, `Are you s--ttin' me? Does she know who wrote it?' And he said, `She does not.' I said, `Well, don't tell her. Don't tell her that Satan wrote a Christmas song.'" "The Magic of Christmas Day" appeared on Dion's 1998 album, These are Special Times, which sold eight million copies. A year later it was re-recorded as a duet with Rosie O'Donnell on a disc that moved another couple of million. "We call our house `the house that Céline built,' says Snider, still married and a father of four. "No one is allowed to cast aspersions on Céline — St. Céline, as we call her — in this household."
