What songs are inevitable as Rain, Tax?

Barbra Streisand has "People" and "Stoney End" and has to sing it at almost every concert of hers. Now Céline has "My Heart will Go On", "The Power Of Love", "Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore" and "Because You Lurved Me". These four are absolutely inevitable and a sure bet when you go and see her live.

 

As it naturally seems with every tour the spectrum of the songs she could choose from to sing melted&melted&melted&melted...and melted. Here is the tracklist of a typical LTAL date:

Out of 19 songs 7 songs are from the current album promoted (ATW not being counted as a proper album since it was a rip off album ahha, not an actual one). That's less than 50% of the concert dedicated for the album she is touring for.

Out of 19 songs performed there she sang 10 that belong onto FIY. That's actually about 50% of the concert which is in my opinion the MINIMAL amount of songs a concert should contain when an artist promotes an actual album.

 

The real threat is now that Céline turns into that kind of Barbra Streisand best of show where despite of a new album doesn't sing ONE SINGLE song from the new CD. That would be just sad.

 

Anyway with ANDHC now she will surely include IA and ANDHC (100%) into the "inevitable" category. I am salso afraid that "I'm Alive" not only will be an addition to this category but will become also the new "Love Can Move Mountains"!

 

So far now we already know, partially of course, the future set list of the tournee, following songs thus belong into the Rain, Tax (It's Inevitable)-category:

 

- The Power Of Love

- My Heart Will Go On

- A New Day Has Come

- I'm Alive

- Love Can Move Mountains

- Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore

 

that's 6 song of the 19 usual ones sung live in a concert. Roughly 31% we already know! LOL!

 

I am not sure, tho about the fate of "To Love You More", "It's All Coming Back To Me" and "Because You Loved Me". In my opinion she may sing them live again, she may not - it surely depends on the strength of the new English and French material.

The only song which is /should be/ inevitable on her European tour and which has ashamingly been overlooked a lot of times in the past years is Think Twice. If she sings that one, I will welcome it with open arms. Yes, baby, sing it for me : no no noooooo ....

I concur that for her next tour, she really should stop performing certain songs. She has such a big back-catalogue to choose from, plus new songs..

 

IMO, "My Heart Will Go On", "The Power Of Love", "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" (full version), "Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore" should be only 'old ones' (which she performed countless times before) in the show.

 

Further more some post-LTAL singles: "That's The Way It Is", "A New Day Has Come", "I'm Alive", "I Drove All Night" are a must.

 

Then we have some older songs which really need to be performed live (like "Then You Look At Me", "Destin", "Miles To Go", etc.) and some newer (post-2000) songs ("I Surrender", "Ten Days", etc.). It would be heaven if she would perform some rare songs.

 

And last, but not least.. the new songs from the new albums. For French speaking countries most songs should be from the new French album (with a few from the English one) and for the all other countries most songs should come from the English album (with perhaps 1 or 2 from the French one).

 

So the setlist will be quite hard to put together, and not everyone will be satisfied.

(therefore I REALLY hope they will ask the opinions of fans, through TC.)

 

Also, the most likely scenario is that Céline will perform multiple times in most cities..if this is the case, it would be VERY nice if the setlist differs from the other night(s).

That wouldn't be that bad. When Tori Amos (hey, look she's on the same record company! Isn't it funny ) was on tour last year, she had a segment where she performed cover songs, and on her official website, the fans were asked to send suggestions for what songs they want to hear from her. You had to fill in the town you'd wanted to attend the concert and which songs you'd like to hear. I don't remember well, but I think you could give about 3 suggestions

if it was up to me , i would like celine to stop singing all of those songs for atleast 3 or 4 years .

no more BYLM , LCMM , TLYM , IA and yes no more MHWGO too - i know it's not possible but i prefer celine to sing her truely most amazing songs , songs that were never released as singles - "miles to go" , "where is the love" , "us" and ofcours as many songs as possible from her new album - not just the singles!!!

 

it's strange cause many artists r doing it but celine prefers to play it safe as i see it and when there is a new song on the list it's usually a cover .

also - what about hits she didnt sing for a long time? i still cant believe she is not performing "think twice" in vegas , it would be so stupid not to sing it it the u.k. (it's her greatest hit ever there) , and what about "only one road" or even "all by myself" - i know , those r hard songs and she wont be able to sing each one of those every night but from time to time she can change the list of songs . why does she have to sing the same songs night after night while having soooooooooo many hits and so many songs she is not singing

Still alot of fans like MHWGO til death! I hated it too coz it was overplayed but I love it more and more now.

I heard from someone who attended (sp?) Wango Tango (I think this was the shows name, dunno for sure) that the crowd went nuts when she started to sing MHWGO.. And I still think alot will so

Let's face it MHWGO will always be a definete! So if your bored of it already i advise you not to listen to it on cd anymore.

 

I don't mind BYLM. I could do without TPOL, i don't really like that. TLYM is an excellent track and would love it to stay.

 

IACBTMN, although i like it, it would be nice to have a bit of a break from it.

In 1996,( only 6 years after it was a hit!!) she was fed-up with the song, and she never wanted to sing it again!!

 

Now all the songs you mentioned look at the years:

 

LCCM 14 years!

TPOL 13 years!

TLYM 11 years!

PQTME 11 years!

IACBTMN, BYLM 10 years!

MHWGO 8 years!

 

You cannot convince me Céline isn't sick and tired of singing these songs? I can get the AND part, cos she has also got to please non-fans, so she must perfom her biggest hits... and the reason why she doesn't perform TT in the US is that it didn't got higher then number 94 or something

 

Now if she will perform again, she can put this songs in a medley and have it over with, but I think she won't... why cos Céline (and the rest of the team) believes she has to perform these songs... they are the songs that made her big, and usually people fans! So I can see why she will perfom them....

 

She has so many songs, and a few really big hits... she can't perfom all her songs in one night, it has to be cut down.... every artist have to handle this... they NEED to perform their biggest hits, cos otherwise the crowd will think oooh screw them! they didn't even perform their biggest hits!

 

The biggest problem of all is for Céline herself... "when a song fades' how can she listen to the wisphers in the morning? Have faith and trust and love, waiting for someone all that time? Compis tout les mots again and again...Staying forever that way? Céline has got the put the emotion in the songs and I can understand her when she says I'm not performing those anymore... but she has to... for the fans... for the 'non-fans'...it has become an obligation

I'm with Davey on this one. There are songs that I'm sure she feels obligated to perform. If she goes on a world tour, not everyone going to her show is as SCF as us. And I think MANY people will be disappointed if she didnt perform MHWGO or BYLM....because those are her signature songs.

 

I think the only thing we can hope for is that she stops putting such a focus on them. In this coming tour, she should maybe do a movie medley were she does two minutes each of BATB, BYLM and MHWGO. MHWGO has been her encore piece since LTAL.....its now almost 2007 and its STILL her encore song. Also, instead of putting in random covers, she should expose some of her lesser known songs. Why do Stayin Alive when she could have done Make You Happy or something else upbeat of her own?

 

Also, I'd LOVE to see TC give members the opportunity to submit the top three songs they'd like to see her perform live that she never has before and hopefully see the top three winners performed in this coming tour.

I'm okay with Céline singing MHWGO, BYLM and TPOL, because those are the songs non-fans are expecting. I just hope they use a LOT of new songs for the rest of the setlist. Or use 1 or 2 of the really big old hits and a few old less famous songs.

Why doesn't' Céline experient more with her hits... That Lara Fabian for instance, a song like J'y crois encore... she has performed this song in 3 different ways, just like Silence or Humana or Tout... changing the music and singing the lyrics differently refreshes the song...

 

I would looooove the her sing It's All Coming Back to Me Now like the Classic Paradise Radio Mix #1!! Or maybe a new version of TPOL in a duet form...or MHWGO only with a pianio... Isn't Mego creative enough to alter songs?

I am a big fan of MHWGO, BYLM, and TPOL, but the one song I think she HAS to perform on this next tour is I Surrender! Sure, it's awesome in Vegas. But, what would happen when she sang it in a stadium full of her fans! WE WOULD GO WILD!!!!!! Just my opinion!
