Even Stevie Wonder can see that Bonnie Raitt is cooler than Celine Dion. He has his reasons, here are ours:

 

1.) Both Raitt and Dion were recognized as exceptional talents at an early age. Quebecoise Dion was discovered by Humpty Dumpty-esque music promoter Rene Angelil at age 12. Granted, her career took off big time, but when they married a decade later, it was more than a little creepy. Raitt was born into performing royalty (her dad is the late Broadway star John Raitt) and was playing guitar at age eight.

 

By the time she reached college she could hold her own on slide guitar. After three years of academic life she dropped out to commit to music full time, and found herself opening for blues legends like Mississippi Fred McDowell, Muddy Waters, and John Lee Hooker. And, most importantly, she didn't end up marrying any of the above.

 

2.) Blueswoman Bonnie has joined forces with an impressive list of legendary performers including Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Waits. Celine's most memorable collaboration is a Disney duet with a guy named Peabo.

 

3.) Bonnie Raitt has a clean record of showing up at awards ceremonies with her clothes on frontward.

 

4.) Two words, baby--rock and roll. As in hall of fame. Bonnie Raitt was inducted in the year 2000. A search of the institution's website for Celine Dion garners an apology and a picture of a robot.

 

5.) Finally, while Queen Celine shills her shrill pipes night after night on the Vegas strip, Raitt is free to take her show wherever the road leads, which this week just happens to be Calgary. The strawberry blond guitar goddess plays the Jube in support of the Pembina Institute, a non-profit environmental organization founded in Alberta. What's Celine done for us lately? --Shelley Arnusch

what a lame attempt to poke fun at Celine and Rene. she says ours as if it represents all of Calgary Herald's. Why don't she state that it's her personal opinion.

Céline and Bonnie R singing are completely different genres! The journalist(if you want to call it journalism!), doesn't get her facts correct about Céline.

Unless everyone in the forum inundates Arnush with e-mails, I don't think it will be effective,imo..

This just shows how sad some people are. People like Shelley are just pitiful and sad because they think that by being negative, they will gain more attention, and get promoted in their jobs. She's probably a C- Journalism student who is trying to get a full-time job at Calgary Herald. But maybe she's not a student. However, even if she's a middle-aged, seasoned journalist, she will only get older, grumpier, more bitter; and become the female Ebeneizer Scrooge, with the exception that she won't change. She probably has no inkling of the magnitude of the words CELINE DION, one of the most amazing two-word combinations in the history of music. This is something beyond her comprehension; beyond her ability to fathom. Regardless, writing is a reflection of its writer (who in this case is Shelley Arnusch). I see badly-brokened mirror.

 

And although I know who she is... I can still ask the question:

Who's Bonnie Raitt?

Okay. Barf. Do I have to begin listing everythin Céline has done for charity, or can we all just agree this sentence it beyond ridiculous. I can handle the rest of the article (except the part where she says Céline has only worked with Peabo) but this is just not having your facts straight.

Celine has her qualities and I'm sure this other one also has hers, but if the fact that she married René is something that make her a worse professional (which she - the writer - left it clear that it was her point) , I'm sorry but I think this girl is totally out of her mind! I'm sure the fact she's married to a person she loves only makes her a better professional because she's happy. And when people are happy they tend to act better in everything in life.

 

And I'm trully sorry for this writer cause I guess the motive for her hate for Celine is either because she was in love with René and he chose Celine, or because she wanted to be like Celine and she knows she will never be able to do that!

What's Celine done for us??? HELLO??? In English Canada, even if Celine does something nice for them, some people still find a way to say something negative about her... That's life! Many are jealous of the little French speaking girl having such a HUGE English career... Oh well, we love our CELINE and are happy about her helping many organizations - like hospitals in Canada, Cystic Fibrosis (she's been the Celebrity Patron forever!!!), etc. And what has this stupid journalist EVER done?
