Juno predictions

Juno organizers shift into high gear

Juno handicappers, start your engines. Today is the day fans of Canadian music will find out if their favourite artists are up for Juno Awards.

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences releases the list of Juno nominees today in Toronto. The 39 awards will be handed out April 2 and 3 at MTS Centre in Winnipeg, at a ceremony hosted by Brent Butt and featuring Neil Young.

We're guessing Sum 41, Avril Lavigne, The Tragically Hip, Simple Plan, Diana Krall and k-os will be up for a few awards, since all had hugely successful albums last year. Even better, the more awards an artist is nominated for, the better chance they will be in town to pick up any potential trophies.

Also, don't be surprised if names like Celine Dion and Bryan Adams appear. Both released unspectacular albums last year, but simply putting in an appearance is all it takes for superstars to earn a nomination.

And, as always, look for acts that are big in Toronto, even if nobody in the rest of the country has ever heard of them.

We won't know who is nominated until today, either, but last week we looked at eligible releases and made our best guesses as to what CARAS and the judges will pick.

And remember, this is only a competition. No wagering.

We might kiss when we are alone... When nobody's watching... We might take it home... We might make out... When nobody's there... It's not that we're scared... It's just that it's delicate... We might live like never before... When there's nothing to give... Well how can we ask for more... We might make love in some sacred place... The look on your face is delicate
