Celinesongs Posted October 31, 2006 at 03:34 AM Posted October 31, 2006 at 03:34 AM I read on Celinedionweb.com that the album LTAL was originally going to be called "The Reason", but couldn't due to rights issues with Carol King. Does anyone know anything about this. I've seen them perform it together, and they didn't seem to have any animosity towards each other. I wonder why it would have been a problem? firebird Posted October 31, 2006 at 10:46 AM Posted October 31, 2006 at 10:46 AM They wanted to take the publishing rights away from the songwriters on LTAL, and some refused to give it, and so they didn't use their songs. Carole's song was still used - I think because Celine loved it too much - but they didn't use it as the title anymore : But on "Let's Talk About Love," Dion and her husband/manager, René Angelil, asked the writers of all the songs submitted to them for up to 20 percent of the publishing money. Some writers whose songs had been on previous Dion albums declined, and their songs were not used. But six songs by lesser-known writers, or writers without clout in the music industry, succumbed to Dion's demands. In one case — a song called "The Reason," co-written by Carole King, Mark Hudson and Greg Wells — the last two writers agreed to Dion's terms but were vetoed at the last minute by the veteran King, who refused to give in. The song was still included on the album but not used — as it had been advertised prior to release — as the album's title. King's objections, however, are not reflected on the album's credits: Dion's music-publishing company, Duffield Music, is still listed as the co-publisher of "The Reason." Paul Farberman, a spokesman for Celine Dion, says that will be corrected in future printings of the album. King's manager, Lorna Guess, says, "They asked, and we said no. We never give publishing away." Guess says that King, who co-writes with many artists, has "never" been asked to do such a thing in the past by anyone. [link] Quote
arthur240186 Posted October 31, 2006 at 12:38 PM Posted October 31, 2006 at 12:38 PM the LTAL album was supposed to be called the reason but the let's talk about love song arrived at the studio at the very las minute and celine loved the song and the title that's the reason why she called the album let's talk about love. This is what celine said in an interview with Julie snider in 1998 but I don't know if it's true or not. But they're no problem between celine and carole, celine invited her to sing the reason together on the divas 98 show. Quote
smw Posted November 1, 2006 at 07:57 PM Posted November 1, 2006 at 07:57 PM And I went to a Carole King concert in 2005, and she said some nice things about Celine then also. Quote

smw Posted November 1, 2006 at 08:14 PM Posted November 1, 2006 at 08:14 PM Like?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> She was talking about how she was supposed to do the theme song for A League of Their Own, and Penny Marshall(the director) specifically called and asked Carole to record a song....so Carole recorded the song Now and Forever for the movie. However, Madonna wanted to record the song for the movie because she was in it....so Madonna recorded the Playground song, and it got played during the credits. But Penny loved Carole's song so much that once the movie was completely finished being filmed, Penny went back and recorded a whole new scene so that she could play Carole's song(which is at the very beginning of the movie)...and it's one of the best scenes! But after she told that story, she went on about how she was able to work with many famous people throughout her career...and she mentioned Celine's name, then a few of "us" audience members screamed! And she went on to say that she was a true artist to work with and it was an honor. I don't remember exactly, but it was nice of her to mention Celine at all! But that was great. I love Carole King. She was fantastic in concert! Quote
