We all know how most of the english-native speakers feel about other languages -no offense intended. Remember "D'eux"? In France became diamond and it brought Celine a government award (sorry, can't remember the exact name) but in England, it was the 1st french album to enter Top 20 or 50 (?) ever! Can't remember! See?? Don't look at us CSCfan, you 're a dutch-native speaker, right? I am a greek-native speaker. We are used to listen to two types of music, foreign and "local". (close to L.V) How can you compare numbers from early 90 with current figures? In almost 20 years, music market has changer a lot... Plus remember that this compilation had bad publicity... plus it's a compilation , plus it's a double-disc. And even less if we consider the US french community (approximately 100 000 french people in the USA); so, 3.300 is quite awful. Here in Belgium, the french community is about 5,000,000 people... and when you sell 25.000 copies of an album (gold disc ) , it's a big success... So 3,300 copies for 100.000 people, it's very good ! It's just avaiable as import.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> It was a regural release. Only her French live albums were imports. The main reason of low sales is the fact that our Celine isn't so popular anymore. kdw123 Posted October 11, 2006 at 06:59 PM Posted October 11, 2006 at 06:59 PM Unfortunately Celine is not popular in the US anymore. I love her and wish that she was, but ever since she took her break at the end of 1999, most people don't know anything about her. Yea she has been on TV a few times...even in her own TV special...but that's about it. Every time I go to Vegas to see her, people ask me: "What does she sing...I haven't heard anything new from her in a long time?" - which is true to some extent, but this goes back to when HYEBIL was on the radio. Also "Is she is Vegas?" "Where does she sing in Vegas?" Many people in the US do not even know that she has a regular gig at Caesars Palace. And they do not know when she has new CD released because there is little to no promotion. I would say there was 0% promotion in the US for ONCP. Plus the "virus" situation with the CD. And the decrease in CD sales all together since lots of people download and bootleg. And not to mention that most people in the US do not want to listen to a song that they do not understand. Hopefully Celine, Rene, and Sony will really promote her next CDs with a lot of promotions, concerts, and radio play.....and no computer viruses on the CD. Quote

max24 Posted October 12, 2006 at 09:26 AM Posted October 12, 2006 at 09:26 AM (edited) You all focus on US market, but look at others, like UK. Albums like D'eux or S'il Suffisait D'aimer entered Top 20 in there and were certified gold! And later? 1 Fille & 4 Types or On Ne Change Pas did not chart, not mentioning certifications. And I checked Top 200 albums chart, not just Top 20. Edited October 12, 2006 at 09:27 AM by max24 Quote
isurrender Posted October 12, 2006 at 10:10 AM Posted October 12, 2006 at 10:10 AM I don't see it as a drama. It's logical. When you checked the top200, I don't think you saw any french album! D'eux and SSDA entered the charts only because of the success of The colour of my love and Let's talk about love. Now UK and Céline are 2 separate things ! lol... But she is still doing well there I think ! I mean.. look at the results of "B-Day "of Beyoncé... Beyonce is one of the new generation of Diva. Her first album was a huuuuuuuuuuuuge success there... and her second album is a big flop ! She dropped from 3 to 19 on one week ! One week in the top 10 ! Even Miracle did better without any promotion or single. Céline can't remain the best seller every year... no other artist can... she had already her success period! So stop complaining about the fact that she is not selling a lot or she isn't so popular anymore : it's logical. Céline has already had so much luck with 2 albums selling over 30.000.000 copies (no other female artist did it ) and others selling almost 20.000.000 copies. 2 of her french albums entered charts in uk... it's already quite an achievement for the french language! Plus nobody can sell so much nowadays... the best selling album of the year is probably Madonna.. and she sold how many? 8.000.000 copies ? We are far from 30.000.000 units. It's useless to compare figures of the 90's with now cos nobody can sell so much every year ( U2, Streisand... do they still sell a lot now?? no !!) and because of downloading. I even think Céline has still big success when you see the lack of promotion everywhere ! Plus I'm proud of the success of 1f4t everywhere.. coz it was released incognito and it managed to enter charts in Portugal, Italy and so on... it's one of the last major success for a french album ! 23.000 copies in the States is good.. I don't think "Carla Bruni" sold so many albums there even if she was on the cover of Rolling Stone and had a very good review in it! Quote
