Well it was always the case that Bette would start performing there earlier (early '08) than Cher (later in '08). And btw, they are contradicting themselves.. First they say Bette has signed a huge deal with CP, then afterwards they say "if the deal goes through". If she has already signed the contract, doesn't it mean the deal is already though..?

I saw Cher in Glasgow and loved it- she was great.

I'm a vegas entertainment gossip whore.. and Bette has been in town a lot the last couple weeks. I think she's been seen at practically every cirque show. and i think they said she was having lunch with the president of caesars and she had toured the colosseum. i think she's definitely the closest to being a done deal.

Well she can definately do a Vegas show and it doesn't necessarily have to be a big (big) show, doubt she will be able to pull it off for 3+ years, but I'm sure she'll have a strong start..

Showbiz icon BETTE MIDLER has agreed to take over CELINE DION's Las Vegas show when the Canadian singer stands down next year (08). Midler will begin rehearsals in October (07) and take to the stage for her first performance at the famous Caesars Palace Colosseum venue in February 2008. It's Official: The Divine Miss M Will Play Vegas, Baby!!

Today an official announcement will trumpet Bette Midler's decision to play Caesars Palace Colosseum Las Vegas the Vegas strip. She will begin her run in February 08, alternating approx every 2 months with Cher and Elton John, and as rumour has it, another female singer. Ms. Midler will not be sharing the stage with either Cher nor Elton. So let'ss nip this rumor in the bud now. Also, the show will not be the same as KMB.

 

For what it's worth, and I know it's a lot, Bette will play a total of 5 months out of the year (do the math, I sure cannot - thanks Mister Vilanch)

 

So far there's no title for the show nor direction as far as the theme, song choices, etc. (Hey, BetteHeads, maybe we could send in some ideas for the title and our favorite songs that I'm compiling LOL Like Judy Tenuda used to say, "It Could Happen!")

 

Anyway, more information will be coming out for sure through the media (watch for extensive TV coverage this week) and the newly designed official site coming within days www.bettemidler.com And all I can say is "FINALLY!" And for God's sake keep it updated!!!

Nobody can replace Celine in Vegas - that's the truth heheh Vegas won't be the same for me after Celine leaves ..... I love cirque du soleil but it's not the same. I don't think there's a singer that can do what Celine did.

Wow, I guess that's good for Ceasars. I think she'll do well in Vegas. After Celine leaves tho I know I won't be going there for a very llooooonnnngggg time. It's gotten too expensive and I'll be broke after the December shows. hehe

Yeah, I think it would be very appropriate for them to name it after her. After all--it was built for her show, and NO ONE will come close to the success she's had there.

It's mainly a tribute to name a permanent property after someone special.

Naming a property after someone has been done for ages.

 

Fords were named after Henry Ford. Guggenheim Museums. Hearst Castle. Trump Building. John D. Rockefeller Center. John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. George Lucas Instructional Building at USC. Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls... and the list goes on...

As much as I love all three, let's be honest...they really needed a line-up like that to even get close to the success Celine has had thus far.

Does anybody know if the replacements are going to be using Celine's dressing room, the biggest dressing room in the world. That would piss me off if they move into Celine's dressing room. It's appropriate that they tear it down once Celine leaves.

It angers me knowing they might be tinkering around in Celine's place/ things.

This is going to be like one of those old "Vegas shows" Celine has this bigger than life show, the best on the planet, and they're replace it with a "Vegas show"???!!! They're gonna cry their hearts out when Celine ends her run. Well, the truth is there's no one out there big enough, with enough star power, that could make millions of people travel all the way around the globe to see them.... so it really doesn't matter who's taking up next, they'll still not be as succesful as they were with Celine.
