delo3934 Posted September 16, 2006 at 07:21 PM Posted September 16, 2006 at 07:21 PM I think its time that we as the fans discuss this and clear this now. Alot of people become angry when they say that Celine Lip's her songs. Yes it's true that she does. Does that mean that her voice is failing her, NO. Does it means she just doesn't want to sing anymore, NO. Does it mean that she's lazy and instead of sing the songs, she would rather have it playback, NO NO NO. I mean come on. I'm a singer to. Sometimes my voice fails me and I have been taking lessons for years now. We all know how much Celine has worked to for the past 25 years to bring beautiful music to her fans. She's doing what she's always dreamed about. But come on we cannot always expect live performances to be perfect or live every time. Don't get me wrong, I don't like lipped performances, but I don't think she's doing it on purpose. She's protecting her voice, especially in vegas conditions despite the humidifier, if she has to do that to protect her voice, then thats what she has to do. Accept that. She has one of the most god given power house voices that I have ever heard. And obviously we have all been touched by it or else we wouldn't be on this forum. But there are some on this forum, who make it seem like they are criticizing Celine for making decisions and so on. Not only is she doing a rigorous show for five nights, she's also getting older, and her voice is changing in color and shape. A couple of months ago I wrote a post on her voice changing, and its now I understand that one's voice cannot remain the same forever. I'm tired of hearing people, and i'm serious say that she doesn't sing as well, or her vegas show is stupid, or this and that. Just leave it alone. She's doing the best that she can. She still can sing like hell in my opinion and she doesn't need to do vocal acrobatics to prove that she still can. I'm sorry if this angers anymore but sometimes I read posts from certain memebers and it gets on my nerves about the things they say. You will not always like what a person does, but accept that this is whats best for that person. She loves to sing, has the greates gift in the world, just don't make it seem like she's doing stuff that we don't like on purpose, obviously there's a reason. Just trust in her and that precious voice. After all we cannot be perfect every single day. Put yourself in her shoes, and see how you would handle it.
I Surrender Posted September 16, 2006 at 07:24 PM Posted September 16, 2006 at 07:24 PM I don't care what people say. I know she's the best female vocalist out there and she will blow most singers of the fricking stage. She doesn't have to prove herself to noone. Us fans know our girl and her vocal qualities. People are just jealous or too embaressed to admit she's an outstanding singer. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y71/suus_73/Celine%20Dion/MyLove-1.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y71/suus_73/Anastacia%20div/defeated.png http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y71/suus_73/Celine%20Dion/MyLove1-kopie-1.jpgGoodbye's Are Not Forever, Goodbye's Are Not The End, They Simply Mean I'll Miss You, Till We Meet Again -xxx-[/b]If You Don't Stand For Something, You'll Fall For Anything !!~ Make A Difference, Think Pink ~ --> Click For Free Mammograms <--
LVCeline Posted September 16, 2006 at 08:43 PM Posted September 16, 2006 at 08:43 PM The only reason her lipping bothers me so much is that I just love her voice so much, I am dissapointed when I don't get to hear it. It gets 10 times more annoying when she's just appearing on a tv show or something and only has to sing 1 or 2 songs. I might tolerate her lipping in her show, because I think her schedule is vocally demanding despite others thinking she's got it easy. Not to mention the concept of lip synching is just ridiculous to me. You're essentially standing there pretending to sing a song and taking credit for singing it when you're not actually singing it. Like at the end when she is so emotional from the applause at TPOL, or MHWGO, well it's contrived because she just stood there and moved her mouth. I would probably prefer she sing songs that she can actually sing versus lipping a big note power ballad every night. If you're having trouble hearing people tell you her voice isn't as good as it used to be (coughthevoicecough), just ignore the comments and don't worry about everyone liking her. If you think her voice is as good as ever, then nobody elses opinion matters. Just sit back and enjoy it.
puffa Posted September 16, 2006 at 10:33 PM Posted September 16, 2006 at 10:33 PM First of all let me congratulate you... coz you show that you charather! It's not easy to say something like what you wrote in a Céline forum. So.. playback!:I understand your position. It's really bad to hear Céline fans doing some stupid comments about her when she doesn't sing live. I agree with you when you say that Céline has to take care of her voice and when you mention that Céline's voice is changing. All we have to care about our voice, because if we talk too much loud, we'll loose her. So, as a singer, Céline MUST take care of her voice... and playback ( SOMETIMES!!!!) is a way to do it. Another point is the change's voice: sometimes, there are days that we just can't sound so good as yesterday. And, it happens to Céline too. For those who are always criticizing Céline when she does playback: it's not only her decision to make it When she sang for the olympics at 1996 she didn't sing live, coz the show's producers didn't want something to fail... Of course they were not worried about her voice ( I think ), they were concerned about tecnic problems, like feedback, sound ... Put yourself in her shoes, and see how you would handle it. If we love Céline ... we just have to accept as she is ... believe in what she does and she admit as the best for her. Keep Cool...

stevethefan Posted September 16, 2006 at 11:40 PM Posted September 16, 2006 at 11:40 PM Well I have to admit when I first heard she was doing this for at least parts (I hope not all!) of her Las Vegas shows I was a little disappointed. I could definitely see her having to do it for some of the choreographed songs where she has to move around alot in the show but for other songs you would think she would still sing without playback. I've seen the show three times, and the last time I was really close (2nd row, center orchestra). I could not really tell even though at times she was very close to where I was sitting. With all of the lights, dancers, andaudience it's hard to tell. I think since she has so many shows to do it obviously can take a toll on a singers voice, and as we all know she does not want her fans to be disappointed., so the playback option is necessary. It is, after all, a SHOW more than a regular concert. It's more like going to Cirque du Soleil than a "standard" concert. With all that being said, I still enjoyed seeing her. I know that this topic has been discussed at length in other threads so I apologize for yet ANOTHER post about this!
meanttofly Posted September 17, 2006 at 12:31 AM Posted September 17, 2006 at 12:31 AM I know her voice is at risk and she really must protect it. I don´t care about TV performances. But C´mon! Everybody knows lypsinching in live shows is wrong, specially if people pay very expensive tickets to listen to the best singer in the world actually use her gift. If it were OK she would tell her audience face to face "Hey! next song isn´t actually a live performance but I´d like to do it for you". If it were right there would be more artists here and there admiting to do it every now and then. The reason why she pretends to sing live some songs is that she knows she´d let many people down if they knew she´s lipsinching.Well these are the problems of engaging in such demanding contracts. But we have to see the difference between understanding and supporting Celine´s decisions and saying that "cheating a little" is something write.

And in reply to your post, suppose she sang, as she had done in the first weeks of and opening, every single song ok. One day she sings for instance TPOL and her voice gives out or, there is no power to it. What will she do then. Continue to add stress to it until it completely falls apart. Remember these are vocal cords your dealing with. You can change a guitar string but you can't change vocal cords. Suppose she's a little sick and she can't sing totally my heart will go on without her voice breaking. And we all know how much of a perfectionest she is. what do you want her to do? She sings as much as possible, and I very much doubt she does it every single night, but you have to give her a break to. Do you think broadway shows are live all the time, of course not. Remeber once you ruin your cords, and not rest them properly, nothing in the world can bring them back again. Be serious.
