9/11 5th Anniversary

Wow. It has been 5 years since those terrorist attacks on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. What else can be said then what has already been said in previous threads about this...not too much. We all know how sad and how tragic that day was, and still is in our minds.

I have gotten so many emails and heard so much about one thing though. And that is flying the American flag. Doesn't matter what country you live in...I ask that you please fly an American flag tomorrow on the 5th anniversary. And for you Americans, you should fly it everyday, not just on the 5th anniversary, I know we do.

Overall, just please, please, please stop and take time to think of those who lost their lives, and those who are still risking their lives fighting overseas.

God bless this great country of America.

I am lighting a candle tonight in honor of those who lost their life because of this terroristic act, and for ALL the heroes who dedicated and are dedicating their lives for the sake of humanity and liberty.

Also, we already have a flag hanging in front our house. :)

God bless our World, and God bless America!

I have always had candels for the last 4 years. This is the first year I will be unable to do it because of living in a dorm. I guess I could get one and sit outside but then i would have to throw it away. I am still deciding what to do. I have been listening to GBA and wearing a twin towers shirt.

I wore a 9/11 ribbon today. It's really been a hard day.

I watched a 3 hours documentary last night on the events of 9/11. It covered the hours before during and after the attacks. It was the most difficult thing I have ever watched. At one point there was a video of the plane hitting the second tower. Someone behind the camera screamed. It was the most horrific thing I have ever heard.

To hear about the bravery of the firefighters and police. Not to mention some of the stories of acts of bravery by ordinary office workers.... To hear the phone messages left by the people stuck in the tower.... To see people jumping to their deaths to escape the flames.... I spent about 2 hours of the time crying my eyes out. I was not the only one. There were 2 other guys with me doing exactly the same thing.

I have tried to avoid films like that since it happened. They almost always move me to tears. But last night I felt I had to. I'm glad I did. It was a release. I know the event didn't affect me directly but I have always been deeply moved by it. I will never forget that day, I will never forget where I heard. I will never forget the pictures of the event. I will never forget 70 people crowded around a little black and white 14" tv in Coolock Health Centre in shock at what was the most appalling act of brutality I have ever witnessed.

May the souls of the 2973 victims rest in piece. You will not be forgotten.

I still remember this horrific day in American history  This all happened while I was away for college in upstate New York. During that morning, one of my roommates woke me up and told me that there is a hole in the twin towers. At first, I was thinking he must be joking. Then, I got off the bed and looked at the tv :shocking:   The World Trade Center is only 3 miles away from my home. The view from the window looks empty without the twin towers.

Like a week or two before the attacks, a couple of my buddies talked about terrorists using planes to blow up buildings and then it really happened. :o

I don't remember being so scared as I felt in that day. I was thinking about my family who lives in USA, my friends...

And for the first minutes I was in total denial. I was telling myself it was an accident. I couldn't believe someone would just such an evil thing. Then the second plane hit the tower and I just sat down and cried. I have no words to express my uther disgust. I guess from this day on I lost all my innocence and my faith in humanity.

I think that you can argue that America has made a lot of mistakes, or hate the place for any number of reasons, but no one can refute that what happened that day was really just a disgusting thing to happen to these people and this city in any place of the world. Sadly, NY isn't the only place were things like that happen, or have happened, and death is a daily part of life for far too many people on this planet.

I'm am one of the biggest critics of American foreign policy you could ever meet. But nothing can condone what those a******* did that day! There is no justification for the killing of nearly 3000 innocent people (even if they are seen as infidels or whatever).

I have many Muslim friends and have attended quite a few of their Eid ul-Fitr feasts (the feast of the last day or ramadan). They are peaceful, gentle people. The people who carried out these attacks do not deserve to be called Muslims.
