However, I don't understand how you can accuse Barbra of being "afraid to perform" and holding onto an 8-year-old rumor. Barbra certainly did not sing that evening with Celine because she was truly sick. I always thought Barbra was not the "diva" type, although she was the know-it-all. She would not just give Celine a runaround. That's just unethical, unprofessional, and absolutely un-Barbra. Barbra and Celine did sing "Tell Him" together for a gala along with David Foster later that year. Quote

The main people in the "industry" that you're talking about were mainly the tabloids.I'm not a fan of Barbra, but there is legitimacy in this matter...Celine has cancelled shows in Vegas too because of sickness. Barbra knows how much Celine loves and adores her. She would not just cancel a "performance of a lifetime" because of this accused-comparison factor. Maybe Barbra could've been like Andrea Bocelli, who was SICK before his Grammy performance, but yet instead, felt it was necessary to be there. They ended up lipping to the pre-recorded track anyway. But I feel that Barbra did not want to lip the pre-recorded track... But regardless, she had Influenza. I remember when I had the Flu for two days, about 2 years ago, I felt paralyzed, with the biggest headache - I felt like I was dying. That's how bad the Flu is. Céline's voice back then was shaky, exhausted and thin. Barbra sang over her like hell.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> seb , i'm sorry but sometimes u take your facts out of your *** what the hell r u talking about?! nevermind - u also think that celine sounded bad in 1996 .<{POST_SNAPBACK}>I kinda agree with Seb on that one.Celine did not fully nail MHWGO that night. She was smooth until the most important part of the song, where she cracked. I guess she had disappointment on her mind Edited September 16, 2006 at 08:59 AM by Love, Quote

She sounded good but Barbra showed her how it's done - without oversinging on her part. Céline with her tiny voice had to screetch to be heard. If she sang this song in 1996 she would have succeded in sounding full but she sang it in 1997 after she's done like 170 tour dates all over the world - Saharah, Australia, Asia, US, Canada, Europe. She's been everywhere and it showed. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg

The only thing I found disappointing was that she didn't sing the song live at her Timeless concert, but showed that short clip instead, Celine at least sang it on the LTAL tour. Quote

But then again, we can also ask about why Celine did not have R. Kelly with her at the "These Are Special Times" nor the "All the Way" TV Specials tapings, nor did they sing together on any TV shows during the Holiday season of 1998-1999. These are questions that may never be answered, because quite possibly...there aren't any Edited September 16, 2006 at 09:03 AM by Love, Quote
Mozinha Posted September 16, 2006 at 09:05 AM Posted September 16, 2006 at 09:05 AM Barbra has a bad case of stage fright. I remember seeing her on Oprah and she was talking about that. I felt sorry for her. I mean I hate feeling fear of anything and must be hard dealing with a fear that is connected to the thing you love the most to do. I don't know why she did not perform back then at the Grammy but I doubt it was because Céline would sing better than her. alextrusca Posted September 16, 2006 at 05:07 PM Posted September 16, 2006 at 05:07 PM (edited) How can you talk about Barbra and Celine that way...Barbra taught Celine some technics and how to sing when they met. They are far from comparison.Barbra is one of the best voices on Earth, a skilled and talented artist.Celine was indeed exhausted in 1997 but that doesn't mean she couldn't have done it.And Barbra still has the voice, she can sing perfectly. It happens sometimes that people have bad luck. It's not about being scared.Sometimes, it's not up to us, even if they planned the whole thing like 1 year before the actual event.
