Céline's Blues Posted July 25, 2006 at 01:03 PM Posted July 25, 2006 at 01:03 PM The way our Celione Dione emphasizes the vowel "o" in the refrain of "Cherche Encore" is simply mesmerizing. It's that typical powerful nasal notes she has made so famous and signature like. Another different emphasis on the "o" she puts in "le paradis qui dOrt" in "dort". It literally sounds as if out of nothing something happens to her voice and she belts it out through her nose! LOL! I love it. I tremble every time I listen to it. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg
Tal Posted July 25, 2006 at 01:49 PM Posted July 25, 2006 at 01:49 PM Isnt it just the belle canto technique? Where you focus on the vowels. Quote I live my life like a runawayI hide my dreams in a special placeI'm waiting here for my prince to comeTo save me from the darkness...
Céline's Blues Posted July 25, 2006 at 02:01 PM Author Posted July 25, 2006 at 02:01 PM I have no idea. But then again you may focus on them and let them pass through your mouth. Céline does it through her nose...I think. Belle Canto sounds good. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg
Tal Posted July 25, 2006 at 02:48 PM Posted July 25, 2006 at 02:48 PM Doesnt sound nasal to me at all. Sounds more like its coming from the back of her throat. And the "o" in dort is same as fort and encore. Quote I live my life like a runawayI hide my dreams in a special placeI'm waiting here for my prince to comeTo save me from the darkness...
Celinemaniac Posted July 25, 2006 at 08:47 PM Posted July 25, 2006 at 08:47 PM Listen, I'm a singer and a french teacher too, and so I can assure you that it's not a nasal sound that I hear. It's an "open" french O coming from the back of the throat, going a bit towards the nose, just to be better "hanged on", but it doesn't sould nasal. If it were a "closed" french O, it would be more resonant! But, the fact is that we like the way it sounds, so no ploblem... Célinefull Posted July 28, 2006 at 08:16 AM Posted July 28, 2006 at 08:16 AM Céline is Canadian, ergo, she has a nazal voice. In that song, and in PQTME she says: Encaaaare rather than encore. She does have a nazal voice, and she has always forced the notes through her nose rather than through her mouth, it's one of the things that makes her a unique and gifted singer.
