Bellamy Posted August 20, 2006 at 09:40 AM Posted August 20, 2006 at 09:40 AM America's Got Talent: 11 Year Old Wins a Million Commentary by Jewels RichardsonAugust 18, 2006America's Got Talent ended their first season last night at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. The show started out with an assortment of past performers, introduced by magician Nathan Burton through manic, fast-paced, connected magic acts. While Mr. Burton went through his act, host, Regis Philbin sang in the stylings of William Shatner,"There's No Business Like Show Business". Following the opening segment, Regis introduced a wacky competition in which the audience voted on with hand-held remotes. Titled, the Crazy Caliber Talent competition, it began with Rudi Macaggi. He tap danced on his hands and dribbled a basketball while he hopped on one hand, then he culminated his act with a truly daring stunt - he leapt from a flat-footed stance, flipped his feet head over heels, into a hanging loop behind his head. Should he have missed, he would have landed directly on his head. Rudy came complete with his own "bit", shouting "I LIKE YOU!" often and loudly at everyone. Next, Duane Flatmo trotted out with his guitars, his unique style involved using an electric mixer and weed whacker, sadly, it did not turn out that well for him, the mixer malfunctioned, and the weed wacker appeared out of tune. The Great Stamen Show played his own teeth, and seriously, I could have made it through life without having seen that act. The Douglas Lee act was next, his hair stood on end, looking as if he had sat in the water his musical glasses were in, and then someone dropped in a hairdryer. Lastly, there was Dave Nakfoor, he reminded me of my dog; he raced around catching eggs in his mouth. Winner of this contest received a stunning 2007 Dodge Caliber RT; "I LIKE YOU!" Rudi Macaggi took the prize. I thought perhaps the audience voted for Rudy, relieved he avoided landing on his head, but considering his competition it was a shoo-in. Following that unique contest, The Blue Man Group performed, as always, interesting and entertaining. Teen queens, Aly & AJ, a musical duo, seemed to thrill all the young tweens and teens in the audience. I did not know who they were but my eight-year old daughter did. All of this zaniness took up almost 45 minutes of the show. Finally, Regis Philbin called all of the top ten finalists to the stage. The finalists were divided into two groups, Regis announced one group had the most votes, the other the least. Regis had Rappin' Granny, Realis, David & Dania, At Last, and The Passing Zone step forward, they were directed to seats on one side of the stage. The remaining acts were sent to the seats on the other side of the stage. Since the second group contained Bianca Ryan, I was pretty certain which group had the higher share of votes. The first group is informed their journey has ended. I wondered why, in contests, at this point, do all of them have the exact same line; ...your journey has ended? Anyway, the remaining group of five is summoned forth, Regis, played it sly, had All That and The Millers step forward. He teased the audience (and the acts) over which act of the two won the million dollars. I thought it cruel, when he dropped the bomb, neither won, but were instead, both runner-ups. Each act was handed the keys to one car, also 2007 Dodge Caliber RT. Simon Cowell must have negotiated a great deal on these cars. I thought, one of The Millers can't even drive yet, and All That, is a group of five guys from South Carolina. One car, five guys. I suppose everyone will work it all out. The remaining final three were Bianca Ryan, Taylor Ware, and Celtic Spring. The winner of America's Got Talent and recipient of the one million dollar prize - little eleven year old Bianca Ryan. During the finals, Bianca sang Jennifer Hollidays, "I am Changing". She worked the stage like a pro, earned standing audience ovations, and delivered an amazing rendition of the Jennifer Holliday song. There was never any doubt; Bianca blew all of the other acts away each time she took the stage. "How do you feel?" host Regis Philbin asked Bianca as he handed her a mock check. "I don't even know," said the little girl with the auburn ringlets, tears streaming down her face. In less than two weeks, Bianca is to start sixth grade at School Lane Charter School in Bensalem, she first grabbed international attention in late June by singing "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" from Dreamgirls. This clip of the little girl in the black-and-white dress bought by her father at Macy's, has been incredibly popular on- line. She came back a month later to sing "Piece of My Heart," which Janis Joplin had made popular. I thought the song too old for her, but the little gal belted it out. With this gift in evidence at eleven what will she be like in ten years? Bianca, who said she counts Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Patti LaBelle as inspirations, ranked a clear judges' favorite throughout the competition with good reason. America's Got Talent, indeed.http://realitytvcalendar.com/recaps/americ...8-18-06-p1.html Quote Please support the forum by ordering everything through our special Amazon.com link Click here. Alice Posted August 25, 2006 at 10:37 PM Posted August 25, 2006 at 10:37 PM These children should start singing songs suitable for their age. They have big voices but somehow they don't touch me.Whene Celine was 12, 13, 14 there was some delicacy in her voice, some elegance already, she was subtile Quote

Mozinha Posted March 1, 2007 at 07:22 PM Posted March 1, 2007 at 07:22 PM I finally watched it. Jesus, the girl can scream. It got annoying but half of the song. She might sing beautifully but all I wish she wouldn't scream so much. Not my cup of tea, sorry.
