Anonymity

I think this is something worth discussing.

I mean, on this forum, there are some of us that have our pictures literally spilling out of our sigs and avatars and we're like open books, but THEN, there are some of us who are absolutely mysterious, and like Van Merlin and Me (Joy), because you have no idea how old we are and what our gender is. You can't even expect us to show our faces, NEVER! LOL

 

Then, there's the not-so-shocking cases where people "impersonate" other people, and use other people's pictures, which happens all too often. Or if people lie about themselves, and their age, their gender, their location, which is the easiest thing to do.

 

Think about many incidences where there are internet predators.

Could there be one lurking around on this forum? This is reality, and there is definitely a possibility.

 

What are your feelings about this?

How far should Anonymity go?

And yes, I just want to hear people's input on the Anonymity factor, without pointing fingers. I mean, these days, predators are out there. People are getting killed because of their choice to meet somebody online. This is JUST a general topic; and I did not intend it to be a "finger-pointer" to anybody.

 

 

And Mazceline, take a chill pill. I think you're dragging the hate a little too far. If you need to, I can airmail you some Midol.

Well... I think anonymity is a right you have. I don't care less about people knowing my name, gender, age or the country were I come from. But I think that some people who prefer to stay anonymous can be really misterious and kind of attractive. And I agree with Bellamy, anonymity is bad when it's used to fool other people, apart from that, I respect it.

It would be pretty funny for you to be finger pointing in this thread, being that you are one of the people who could be stalking us all.

 

I choose not to be anonymous here because I like to discuss things with people and get involved. I find that you can't make friends on a forum unless you give a little peice of yourself to the forum and allow people to discuss things with you. It's obviously not a prerequisite here, so nobody has to tell people anything, however, I chose to, because I think the alternative is boring.

I understand why some don't want to show their age and/or gender. As long as that person isn't trying to fool others, I don't mind. There are many open people out there. On the other hand, there are members that put an obvious fake age. If you don't want to tell the age, don't put one at all

I don't have a problem with anonymity if people want to be not known by people for safety reason's. But I think it's good to know about other people just out of curiosity.

joy, i think i owe you a sorry, i get what you were on about now, i for one second did not think that anyone here were un truthful, and obviously i was wrong with the traceceline thing, god im shocked i always thought it was strange how she/he had photos all over and i thought it was strange as i personally did not like the thought of pictures of a Child here,

It was almost impossible to come here without having my name and gender revealed because I have friends here and other people that I've been in contact with and they call me by my real name. Actually, my nickname is a nickname is real life.

But for security's sake I don't tell my adress or telephone number. From what people know from me they could never track me down or stalk me in person. Name and age it's not enough. I've shared pics but there are so many people in the world and so many look a likes, it's virtually impossible.

 

I respect everyone who doesn't want to reveal who they are as long as they don't tell they are someone else or fool people.

I always feel better when I know who I'm talking to, but hey I can understand why someone might not wanna share too much info about themselves over the internet so basically as long as they aren't crazy or threatening I think whatever choice they make is fine

Well i have been an open book here, made some great friends that have helped me, now i feel like ive made a mistake being so open
