Telling the truth is probably the right thing to do.. But in your case, she is very close to you and you don't want to risk losing her. If you keep quiet, you'll be eaten up by some sort of an emotion that will make you feel insecure around her. If she really is a true friend and likes you because of who you are, you soulnd't be afraid to tell her anything. You should be able to be as open as you need to be. But you have to keep in mind that there are risks in everything.
