VinnyT. Posted January 23, 2005 at 04:48 PM Posted January 23, 2005 at 04:48 PM Time is GMT + 8 hoursPosted: 23 January 2005 1408 hrs Author of 'Besame Mucho' dies at 88 MEXICO CITY: Consuelo Velazquez, composer of the enduring 1940s-era hit "Besame Mucho", died of respiratory problems in Mexico City on Saturday, colleagues and family members said. She was 88. The singer had been in intensive care since November when she suffered a fall at home. Velazquez was born in the city of Ciudad Guzman in the western Mexican state of Jalisco in 1916 - though she liked to shave a few years off her age, giving her birthdate as 1920. She began her career as a classical concert pianist but later became a singer and recording artist, and ultimately one of the best-known composers in Mexican history. The peak of her success came in the 1940s with romantic songs like "No Me Pides Nunca", Pasional", "Dejame Quererte", and most of all "Besame Mucho". Recorded in 1941, it became a theme song for countless couples separated by World War II. It has been translated into 20 languages and interpreted by artists ranging from the Beatles to Celine Dion, Joao Gilberto, Placido Domingo, and the Russian army chorus. The author of the lyrics "Kiss me over and over, as if this night were the last time," confessed in a 2003 interview that when she penned those words at the age of 25 she had never been kissed. - AFPI also heard this on my local TV news. I believe it's a mistake that it's spreading all over the world. Or maybe something unreleased. But I think it's just a mistake. DidasDion Posted January 27, 2005 at 01:11 AM Posted January 27, 2005 at 01:11 AM Well as they said translated in 20 languages... she might have sang it in her early live concerts like she did with Carmen and Up Where We Belong... or simply they were saying that the song was recorded by artists in the same rank as hers and Beatles's, like THE VERY BEST ARTISTs OF THE WORLD. Maybe that's just that! Quote This time... is in your hands!UNICEF - Children relief fund!
