I think it's one of Céline's few great English outings that has to be better appreciated by her fans worldwide.

Her voice is so subtle and nicely restrained as if she had never ever sung All By Myself in her life... :giggle:

seb , there is no option for me - i love the song and i love the way she sings it but i'm not sure i want a full jazz album right now.

her voice is so clear and powerful there...yes , there r no high notes and u know better than everybody how much i love those lol but her vibrato(i think that's the name for that thing she is doing with her voice) there is amazing!! - no other singer in the world can do it better!!

i wish she could do it more...this days when she hits the notes , she mainly screams - what happened to that vibrato?to those beautiful and CLEAR notes that end in a perfect way ?

"Kind of", gogo :P This would sum it up.

This one and "Quand On S'aime" proves that if she wants she sounds really amazing. Otherwise she sounds just "great". :kicking:

Loverboy c'mon and love me

Give me more, touch me and touch me

I enjoy the way you rock me

All night long

Loverboy c'mon and take me

Only you know how to make me

Shudder with anticipation

All night long

I live my life like a runaway

I hide my dreams in a special place

I'm waiting here for my prince to come

To save me from the darkness...

I voted "not quite, not quite"

The problem is not her singing itself, but the song. She respected it too much. Released in 1964 it would have been a hit. In 2004, it just wasn't there. Her singing should have been much more agressive and innovative.

If you can't bring something new to an old song, just don't record it again. That's why so few of the Beatles' songs have been rerecorded. Don't bother! You can't do a better job. :msn-tongue:

:ermm: I think bambam is right. Streisand did a version that was per-fect-ion!

I was misquoted for the first time in my life.

I think that, among all the songstress, Celine is one of the most creative ones. I think this song just didn't motivated her. It's quite boring. But, given other circumstances, she could have done a good job with it by, litterally, smashing it to the ground, pulverizing it, and bring something new to life... which she didn't.

I LOVE this recording! I think Celine HAS to record this. This is the style that i wish Celine would pursue. Add a few old covers and some new songs and it'll be a lovely relaxing and surprising album!

OH, I AM TOTALLY BEWITCHED BY THE CELINE INTERPRETATION OF THIS SONG FROM THE FIRST MOMENT I HEARD IT!!!!! It is really amazing how its sounds great and I think that she could made a jazz album!!!! Please Celine, DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Celine, SEI NELL`ANIMA, E LI TI LASCIO PER SEMPRE....

My love, can you give me strength

Somehow I forgot how to ease my pain

I know I'm right where I belong

Something from nothing never proved me wrong

But I stand tall to get by

No matter how hard I try to hide

Did you know I take the time for you

Did you know that I would see you through

Did you know that I would play the part

I must've made it clear right from the start

I would shade my whole life with you

Would you do the same for me

I would give all I am to you

Would you do the same for me

I love the song itself already and she sang it really beautifully. I can really see her record this sort of jazz ballads for an album, but I'd prefer if she chose to put totally new songs on it, not ones she has already recorded before like this one.

Jazz album? Yes. BBB...not a big fan of the song, so my interest with one is in no way directly proportionate to the interest in the other. So, despite the fact that I voted "not quite", I'm still interested in a Jazz album. Edited by VanMerlin

So, since the other topic was closed...I'll just ask it again! :ermm:

Does anyone know if Celine recorded this song well before the movie, and they decided to use her version for the soundtrack...or if Celine specifically recorded the song for this soundtrack. To me, it just sounds more like she used to. But I guess, in the recording studio, she can still sound like she always has.

Celine specifically recorded the song for this soundtrack. Celine can sound like she always has at anytime if she wants to.

I know. However, she has no problem with letting her French shine through more now...which is fine, but I just don't understand why she would not have chosen to lose the accent with the beginning of "Because You Loved Me" on her LIV album, for example. I know she could still sing the song like she did back in her FIY days, however she doesn't.

But thanks for the information. :bye1:

For anyone who isn't 100% sure that Celine should release a JAZZ/BLUES album ... go to the Calling You thread and view the video.

Enough said!

To call this jazz would be to call I'm Alive blues.

Sure her voice is perfect and her performance is without any remarks. (But ain't perfect so close to boring? (look at all Foster produced tracks)) She could pull off a dinner-backround-music album without any doubt. But I am sorry, I thought we wanted something more. Coz dinner-music aint very artistic and it ain't gonna leave a mark of interest for anyone to go back and play anytime when they don't want to have an album they can have in the backround, not forcing them to care wether it's bad or good and not being too unpredictible, while eating.

If this track and is being praiced and making you beg for a jazz album I am not so sure you know what a jazz album is.

The arrengements of this track diservers after a listen or two to go straight to the can marked with "we've-heard-it-all-before-wait-wasn't-this-a-karaoke-track-everybody-else-is-using-and-has-no-soul-or-thought-put-into-it" sign.

Céline's vocal achievement is on top of being perfect, but needs creativness.

The musical arrengements - I can't care less about them.

Céline is born to sing jazz and blues but with this kind of production I'd rather have no "jazz" album at all.

Improvisation, soul, creativness and unpredictable arrengements and ORIGINAL interprestions is what we need.

Then ya'all see how extremely good it can sound. :msn-wink:

Funny, "Bewitched" is actually the dinner-backround-music in the movie Mona Lisa Smile. :P

I REALLY love it! :in_love:

It's a pity we hardly can hear it in the movie! :pinch:

I guess Bewitched would be considered more of a classic standard. So if you look at record sales in this genre... a pop classic standards album would actually do quite well. It's not like her music hasn't been shoved to the AC Charts already!

Example Given:

Rod Stewart: Won a grammy last year for best traditional pop vocal album

Rod Stewart is in the Number One spot for the first time in twenty-five years. His latest standards album, Stardust . . . The Great American Songbook: Volume III, sold 240,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Michael Bolton's release Bolton Swings Sinatra is also doing well.

Yes Rod Stewart's Great American Songbook series have been quite successful. Too bad only 50 % of the material (vol. I and III) holds high quality. Nevertheless this is dinner-music. :P (Rod even confessed it is).

I am quite sure the tiny dinner-music trend wave is fading extremely quick. And by the time Céline's team will gathered dinner-music-album material together and releasing it it will be yesterday material and it would seem as if Céline is desperatly trying to catch up with the trend.

My little prediction about real jazz rythms rising more and more through music is becoming more and more true. Sadly, will Céline be able to jump on the wave as it rises or when it has faded? (It saddens me though to see screaming Auguilera to surfing the wave at the moment with Ain't No Other Man).
