MontYeo Posted March 23, 2005 at 04:03 PM Posted March 23, 2005 at 04:03 PM She's gone to so much trouble to arrange this! 1. She's not going to tell you whether or how much she's already donated herself quietly. 2. She's giving others an opportunity to donate and help. This is not a one-woman show, and she's not obliged to be the saviour of the Tsunami victims. But, without being asked to, she's helping! Everyone should chip in. Big or small amounts, doesn't matter - just give what you can afford. 3. Which other entertainer is doing the same? 4. Just think - how much effort is it to go shopping for your weekly groceries? And how much effort is it to work for 1 day? - multiply that by at least a few times and you know how much effort, and money Celine is putting into it. 5. She's put Unicef's logo on - I'm sure Unicef will be expecting money - now if she's planning to pull a fast one - don't you think people will find out very quickly? Please give the lady due credit - she deserves praise, not grumbles! I definitely support her! Quote

Or, maybe we'll have this in a Tsunami DVD with other performances from the specials, the proceedes going towards the relief efforts.. this would be so awesome! Ronny83 Posted April 7, 2005 at 07:51 PM Author Posted April 7, 2005 at 07:51 PM Press Release Source: U.S. Fund for UNICEF Mallika Chopra, Rodale, Pier 1 Imports, American Express, BD, AOL and Celine Dion Support UNICEF This Mother's DayThursday April 7, 3:24 pm ET - The U.S. Fund for UNICEF and its Partners Honor All Mothers By Making Gift-Giving a Gift of Life NEW YORK, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- On Mother's Day, loved ones can honor their mothers by helping vulnerable children and mothers throughout the world. Whether participating in Mother's Day events, buying gifts from companies that support UNICEF, or simply making a donation - there are a variety of ways to support UNICEF this Mother's Day. Funds raised will support UNICEF's efforts to build a better world for women and children by providing mothers with proper immunizations and nutrition and ensuring their children have a healthy start in life. Giving has never been easier. Each year, nearly 11 million children do not live to see their fifth birthday, and more than 2 million children die needlessly from illnesses that could have been avoided through immunizations. HIV/AIDS has orphaned 15 million children, yet only a fraction of them receive appropriate services and care. UNICEF provides lifesaving immunizations, education, health care, nutrition, clean water and sanitation to millions of children in 158 countries and territories, to ensure that all children have a healthy childhood and that they survive and thrive to adulthood. This year, celebrating Mother's Day can lead to the advancement of women's and children's lives for years to come. Many Ways to Support UNICEF this Mother's DayMallika Chopra's timely book, 100 Promises to My Baby, celebrates the timeless and loving commitment that parents make to their children. All parents take pride in their children's accomplishments ... whether it's their first smiles, words or steps. Chopra's inspiring stories and essays are compelling and human, and whether awaiting a baby, or already a parent, there is something in this book for everyone. Ms. Chopra is generously donating 10% of her net proceeds to benefit UNICEF's programs for children orphaned by AIDS. Rodale Inc., publisher of Chopra's book, will donate an additional $1 for each 100 Promises to My Baby book purchased on the Rodale Web site, http://www.rodale.com, to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF's Mother's Day Campaign, up to $5,000 (from April 19th through October 19th). Celebrate Mother's Day on May 8 with Celine Dion, live in Las Vegas. Dion is performing a Mother's Day concert for Tsunami Relief with the theme of "A New Day." Proceeds of tickets sales will go to fund recovery and reconstruction efforts in the tsunami affected region. To purchase tickets to Dion's show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, please visit http://info.aeglive.com/celine/ or call 1-877-4-CELINE. For sponsorship information, please call the Benefit Office at 310-575-0122. AOL has generously supported UNICEF by sponsoring Dion's concert with a gift of $25,000. Pier 1 Imports, a partner of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF for 20 years, will donate $1.20 for each $50 or more gift card sold in U.S. Pier 1 stores and at pier1.com between April 14 and Mother's Day, May 8. This dollar amount, $1.20, is the cost of a life-saving vaccine to immunize a mother and her newborns against tetanus. Maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) is a preventable disease, which takes the lives of 30,000 women and 180,000 newborns every year. This Mother's Day, throughout the month of May, American Express is encouraging its millions of Cardmembers to contribute to UNICEF's lifesaving immunization campaign to protect mothers and their babies from preventable diseases. Through an exclusive partnership between software provider Kintera Inc. and American Express, each time a donor uses their American Express® Card to make an online gift at http://www.unicefusa.org/amex, American Express will match a percentage (.2%) of the contribution. BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) has generously offered to match donations up to a total of $500,000, giving the U.S. Fund for UNICEF the opportunity to provide $1 million to help eliminate MNT. Between April 21 and July 15, funds donated on-line at http://www.unicefusa.org to support MNT will be matched by BD, helping to protect mothers and their babies. ABOUT UNICEF Founded in 1946, UNICEF helps save, protect and improve the lives of children around the world through immunization, education, health care, nutrition, clean water and sanitation. UNICEF is non-partisan and its cooperation is free of discrimination. In everything it does, the most disadvantaged children and the countries in greatest need have priority. Guinn George Hamilton Sir Elton John Wynonna Judd Larry and Shawn King Bette Midler Kathleen & Wayne Newton Shaquille O'Neal Barbra Streisand Dame Elizabeth Taylor "Like everyone else in the world, I was devastated by the loss and suffering of the people of South Asia after the tsunami and decided we had to do something to make sure help and awareness would continue for a long time to come," said Celine Dion. "Our goal is to raise one million dollars but we're hoping to go far beyond that since all the money is going to UNICEF to help these people get their lives back. It's going to be a very special night, for a great cause, and the support we've been getting from our sponsors and the fans has been amazing." "With each performance of A New Day..., Celine brings joy, inspiration and a touch of hope to her audience," said Timothy J. Leiweke, president and CEO of AEG. "The May 8 performance will allow her to reach beyond those that fill the Colosseum every night and touch the lives of those who are most in need of these gifts right now." "Mothers and children have been central to UNICEF's mission for the past 60 years. On this Mother's Day, it is especially poignant that Ms. Dion has chosen to use the spotlight afforded to her to speak out on behalf of all mothers, everywhere, who want the best for their children - a simple message we can all embrace, wherever we live," said Charles J. Lyons, President, U.S. Fund for UNICEF. "We are grateful to Ms. Dion for helping to maintain public attention to the needs of those affected by the tsunami - it is crucial that awareness and support continue for the long term rebuilding and rehabilitation phases.
