Celine Dion To Give $1,000,000.00 To Tsunami Relief

 

Celine Dion has announced that she will be dedicating a special Mother's Day performance of her Las Vegas show A New Day... , donating all of the proceeds to support the victims of the Asian Tsunami. The show will take place on Sunday, May 8th at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Celine expects to raise a minimum of $1,000,000.00 and make a donation to UNICEF to help the families who have suffered as a result of the tragedy. "Like everyone else in the world, I've been devastated by the loss and suffering of so many in South Asia," said Celine. "As a mother, I cannot imagine the pain that they are experiencing. We can all see that it's going to take a long time for those people to re-build their lives, and they will need our help for years to come. I chose Mother's Day for this event, because of the special meaning it has for families, but also because it will help maintain the awareness of everyone's needs in South Asia, over the coming months." In addition to the Mother's Day show, special UNICEF pledge boxes will be set up throughout the Colosseum immediately, so that patrons coming to the show from January to May, will be able to donate to the cause. That's true, they do need the money now, but they need it even more in a few months time when most people who have donated now have forgotten all about the disaster or aren't able to donate more. It'll take years and a lot of financial support to make their lives even partly normal again.

 

I love the way Céline did this. A show dedicated to the cause and the pledge boxes around Colosseum, that's a really good way to collect even more money! There are a lot of (rich) people going to see the show and I'm sure they will make donations!

I think its such a wise decision of Céline to wait. Right now millions of dollars are collected for Asia and also media from all around the world pay attention to it. But what will happen in a few months? People go on with their lives and forget about it. Céline's show will help to put the attention back on the cause, it's so well thought of her! Dion will donate all of the proceeds from the Mother's Day (May 8) performance of "A New Day," her resident show at the Colosseum at Las Vegas' Caesars Palace. The artist anticipates to donate a minimum $1 million to UNICEF from the show. Ticket details have not yet been announced.
