Shonah Posted March 19, 2006 at 07:48 AM Posted March 19, 2006 at 07:48 AM YAY SOUTH AFRICA I'm from South Africa!! Yeah, our radio stations do play a lot of Celine, in actual fact, everyday their is a Celine Dion song being played particularly on Jacaranda fm and 94.7 Highveld. The only thing that we are not big on is her books i have only managed to buy 2 books of hers here: Miracle and Celine Dion the complete biography. The great thing is everyone knows who Celine Dion is and when a new album is released majority of the time there are posters advertising the album and i usually go to the music stores and hound them for the posters and constantly phone them to ask if they have been taken down coz they forget to phone you ! LD1977 Posted March 19, 2006 at 10:15 AM Posted March 19, 2006 at 10:15 AM (edited) Hi from The Netherlands! The Netherlands are a bit double about this, a lot of dj's and magazines say and write silly things about Céline. In the 90's they were more positive, but after 'My heart will go on' was in the charts for months, they seemed to get bored by Céline and her music. They also see her as a ballad-queen and many people have no idea that she makes a different kind of music as well. Besides that, she is not promoted very much anymore. In the 90's things were much bigger. We do have interviews with her every now and then, when she came back after her break various shows paid attention to it. But a lot of people do not appreciate Céline as much as I do... But on the other hand, when they release a new album of Céline, it sells very good most of the time, specially the English albums. It has been a long time ago she had a top 10-hit in the single-charts. But I think the single-charts are influenced by younger people, its a pure commercial thing. Advertisers want to reach a young group of people and thats why there is a lot of R&B and music like that in the charts. I used to get angry by that, but my mother once said a wise thing. She said to me: "Come on, do you really want Céline to be inbetween this music? You should see it as a good thing she is not in it, because the music thats in the charts is terrible! See it as a compliment she is not in it!" And I had to say she is right... So, as long as her cd's sell well, I am happy!
