People's bad english on the forum

Who cares. But I do think there's no need to apology for that . I think most people who said they're sorry about their English are actually not that bad.

Is this actually an issue? because I have never seen anyone apologise for bad English, and I haven't heard anyone ask them too.

I see it all the time. After the write something they say "sorry for my bad english" or something to that affect.

As long as I don't have to decipher what people say, they pass my test. I don't think it is necessary to apologise for language skills. Lots of native speakers make more mistakes than some foreigners. Learning a language is a lifelong process and I don't think anyone can ever be flawless at it.

I think people shouldn't apologize!

But when you write in a language which isn't yours, you fear not to be understood, so it's better precising it's not your language!

 

I'm very happy when I see people writing in French, in the French section... I don't care about the mistakes if there are! The point is that they try to be in contact with people from different countries and cultures... So that's a good thing!

 

If you can take part in another section than the one of your mother tongue, then it's good for everybody!

Honostly, I don't think we should care. I mean, talking is just a way of communication. And if you're saying that they should apologize, then you're kinda saying that they're doing something wrong by not speaking propper English. If someone was in an emergency and only knew a limited amount of English, and had to speak English to solve the problem, would you say, "I won't help you because you can't speak propper English."

 

I think people are just creating a problem where it's not needed Of course, I'm not targeting any one person, but I'm just speaking in general So I don't see the need for others to apologize for their bad English, however, if THEY feel the need to apologize, they should feel free to do so at their own will.

I voted "who cares". Really lol I don't think anyone should apologize for that. I'm pretty sure that people do the best they can. We all make mistakes. So, since you can understand what people want to say I don't see any problem with that.

I write few times in the forum because I'm afraid of what I'm writing, if it's right or wrong... but now I don't mind so much as I did....

The thing is though, no one asks them to! And it's their decision to apologise, so I guess that is why some people are confused as to the point of this thread.

I'm French and I try to speak English the best I can. I'm the one who make the transcripts ("translations" should be the rights word in fact). I'm sure I make mistakes in English! I learn English all by myself. I mean, at school, it's always like "How are U? I'm fine/Ok/good", or... I can't wait to be corrected by English people, but they never do! I know we're not here for that, but it would be an improvement for me!

You just don't know how much I'd like to be taught by someone! I know I can understand someone speaking, watching TV and everything, but... I want more, more and more!! English is a drug for me! I'm in love with this language!!

HAHA Victorine, I'm your other side, I think I'm in love with French! I know it is very difficult to master a language but I don't want to be so perfect either. As long as I could speak, read, write and understand what people say, that's more than enough. I always want to learn more languages. I know cantonese, malay and english, learning french now. if I manage to speak and read French, i might continue with mandarin. although i know i wun be able to master this language but i will try my best to do what I can.

You seem to have much interest in languages, felixwhoals! You must be a passionate to wanna learn more and more languages!!

I live in France, and without complaining, it's difficult to find your way, to study something you like and make it your job. I think you can see it on TV with the strikes of students (marching against a new law) in France. After 3, 5, or even more years of study in University (when people can go to University), geting a diploma doesn' mean at all that you'll get a job. It's really distressing I think. So if I can the studies I love the most, I go for it! That's why I'm saying that I want (it's even a need with me!) to master English. I wanna live in English 7 days a week, you know what I mean ?!

But you have a great luck, it's a talent, to be interested in all these languages. You could do great things in the future using this curiosity of discovering.
