what album had the best production and arrangement

We talk so much about her voice but now just take a technical look at every album of her and said what you think about the production and arrangement. And please vote.

 

Note: I don't considered the live and compilations in this poll.

As far as the technical details and sound (compression, EQ etc..), I voted for "A new day has come". It has the right volume, ritch sound, bass mids and highs..

 

As far as the not included live albums, the best one is "Live à Paris". It has the best balance between low and high frequencies.. and the album sounds "live" from beginning to end (opposite to Olympia wich has many pre-recorded stuff.. such as drums etc.., Au coeur du stade.. too much of the low frequencies)

That's a weird question cuzz every single CD of hers is very well produced. In case of "audiophile sounds" here are two stand outs that Jihn Vestman poiinted out in his list on "best sounding CDs ever":

For a beautifully smooth reference disc, this one keeps holding up. Stephen Marsh (chief engineer at Sony LA) told me that Vlado Meller put the mastering magic on this one. Vlado's work always is pure silk on the top. With mixing genius, Humberto Gatica and the creme-de-la-creme of talent from all over the world, how can you miss? (For grins, listen to Humberto's classic mixes of Chicago and numerous other platinum artists... you'll hear a more crisp and immediate sound as was found in those days). The goal of this production was to retain dynamics and have a warm, ultra silky-smooth sound. As a mix reference, this is opposite of Mariah's album [see below], which just goes to show... there are no rules. Hits are more about songs and singers than they are about frequency tone spectrums.

 

But in this place I would like to mention "Celine Dion"'s overall smooth feeling and sultry intrument delivery. This CD stands out as very warm one in opposite to the overly polished "Falling Into You" in my opinion... everything sounds warm, not mechanic like on FIY. The choirs on LCMM just hit you upon the first listen and the wonderful Kenny G solos in Halfway To Heaven are magically well framed into Céline's voice and the music.

I think the best produced, best sounding and best arranged album is ATW for sure. it's almost perfect (the 7 new ones).

Well it is hard to say coz as with everything around Céline's music and albums it's very schizo. And overall I think there is too much of stuff I don't like (electric stuff) overall way too much key board, too little real orchestra!

 

I adore the arrengements on both The Reason and Call The Man.

 

Well there is no best album when it comes to arrengements, since there's key board on all of them, but I had to choose LTAL.

 

The album with worst arrengements is the self titled CD. Which is very tragic coz the songs are really good and her vocal performance is awsome. But here we have again key board, AND the instrument which ruins the intire album and drowns away Céline - the DRUMS!!

 

Without the extreme power of the drums in the Celine Dion album and exchanging the key board with real piano this would be the number one best Céline Dion album in all aspects.

I 've just voted ANDHC. I think its sound is perfect and the songs that are included are very good. It combines pop rhythms with strong ballads in a very good way. It was the first time Celine did a more pop than ballad album and it was very succesful.

I voted S'il Suffisait D'aimer, I think that it is the nicest album all around ofr it's simplicity, especially on On ne change pas, I think the beautiful music to that song is a classic Céline moment.

I think FIY, New Day Has Come and S'il suffisait d'aimer - are very well aranged and polished albums. The music themes are well combined.

 

However I cannot say the same about D'eux. Different themes and tepms are jumping and do not make a melodic harmony.

S'il suffusait d'aimer is her only studio album (well Incognito & Plamondon too) that is not hardly compressed. The waves look perfect.. and yes you have to turn the volume up a bit.. but you'll get good dynamics..

I don't like One Heart, almost the whole album is a nightmare to me, I hear the sound and hit me over and over. And isn't because I don't like this style of sound, not at all, BUT when you have that voice, Mmm, sorry I don't get it.

 

I really think, if you have this voice so great so good, why you want overproducer her voice. The essential to me is keep her voice pure so the production and arrangement only surrounds her voice.

Exactly, which means that FIY shouldn't have been such a popular choice..it's too commercial and not very substantial to me, it doesn't seem to have much power to the music, it all sounds very synthish.

I forgot to mention FIY recording has a big flaw. The end of "Call the Man" track is in the very beginning of "Fly". Anyone else had noticed this? I find this problem in all version of FIY CD that I have (Europe, Asia...).

I think that FIY was the best album that she's produced. There is a nice balance of up temp songs and ballads and it doesn't feel like anything is missing. As for her best live album A Paris it's flawless from begining to end.

NEW YORK, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- A $20 million lawsuit has been filed in New York by a Grammy-winning producer who claims a data storage company lost his "priceless recordings."

 

Jim Steinman filed the suit in New York Supreme Court claiming Boston-based Iron Mountains Records Management Inc. lost the original recordings of the hit he wrote for Bonnie Tyler, "Total Eclipse of the Heart," and Barbra Streisand's 1984 recording of "Left in the Dark."

 

Steinman, who shared a Grammy for Celine Dion's "Falling into You" and also wrote Meat Loaf's "Bat out of Hell," told Sunday's New York Post the lost recordings are irreplaceable.

 

"For a composer, it's like losing the Mona Lisa," he said.

 

He said Iron Mountain had been charging him $1,700 a month to store his tapes in a mountain area.

 

"They say, 'We're a mighty fortress on a mountain where nothing can happen,'" he said.

 

Iron Mountain did not return the Post's phone calls seeking comment.

So "Falling into You" is one of Jim Steinman's priceless recordings, too. I'm glad they didn't lost it at least. "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" is definitely one of the best produced track of Celine. Kudos to Jim Steinman.

when i listened to OH again, surprisingly it changed my mind about it being the worse Celine album. it actually sounded nice to me...it is a change from the normal genre Celine sings but its kinda on the average side. and if fans didnt like that album, how did it ended up being no.2 on Billboard?
