I don't know about you guys but I feel like the more Céline seems not to give a damn about music and her albums her fans keep raising their expectations higher and higher being now at their relative peak of wantig her to whore like a certain other American voicless diva... just to be played at the radio and to sell.

 

I mean is it all that important especially if Céline herself doesn't give a dam?

I'm glad Celine can enjoy her life while making some music for us fans. I think Celine don't care about sales, charts, awards... anymore. I think some of her fans need to accept the fact Celine don't care about those anymore. I feel content she's still singing while she don't have to.

 

BTW, please don't turn this topic into another compare Celine with Mariah, Madonna.... topic.

We can make a thousands of threads about what we think, about our conclusion and nonsense. The reality is we only make a vicious circle and don't know nothing.

 

I think only the time could give us a better perspective of what direction she will take.

 

And I agree with Bellamy, she worked so damn hard in the past so I'm so glad she enjoy her life now.

You do have a good point. But I guess it's just because we want her to look good on the market, since we like her so much we want everyone else to see what we see and like her too. And while they're already releasing singles every now and then why not do it good? And release the good tracks of the album and nothing else... And I have been tought "what's worth doing is worth doing well" and well the promo and the single choises are not done so well so I guess I wouldn't complain if they actually didn't do anything at all. Was that as confusing as I see it now? (been having some wine ). And it is not fun as a fan to see her singles not go as high as they could (or as other tracks of the album could if released as singles). And I think that by releasing a single they should at least have some goal to do well on the charts... Coz it all comes back then to what I mentioned first: we all want Céline to look well and do well.

 

But besides that:

 

All I really wish for is that her EXTRAORDINARY talent is used in great and expressional art. (and forgive me for not thinking neither Foster, R&B or yesterday's pop holds the keys to that). And by that I really don't care if it is commercially successful. Get my point? And honestly tours around the world on 50 000 seated stadiums does nothing for me. She could sing blues jazz in smokey joints.

 

The certain singer you used in your statement is NOTHING I want Céline to be like!

 

My dream is if Céline could find some songs and inspiration from Nina Simone and Eva Cassidy.

Now you'll say: then go listen to them. Well I do. But I know that Céline could be so so so so so EXTREMELY good if she stepped out of the pop world and tried her wings on something like this, and experimented with it and did it "raw" not picture perfect Disney production... And you'd all see I was right!

I'm glad that Céline doesn't care about sales but that she does what she loves to do, just making music and releasing an album every now and then! We don't have to forget that she worked hard in the past to achieve where she is now. She is for now reason the best selling Artist of all time!

I've been seeing a lot of expectations based on nothing... Some people just need to get over it. This is it now: Celine lives for her family and only does music because she enjoys it and sales are not on her top priority list.

Fred, I truly don't think you need to explain since you are one of these few I get perfectly and share your sentiments as well. The reason I created this topic is just cuzz of my impression of some fans here and in general on the internet that it truly seems that she can't do them any good...and worst of that they don't seem to appreciate the things she has been doing for them since her comeback in 2002. They might not have been the best one but still...

I don't care about album sales or radios. I just wish she would give more about her vocal performances. I mean her voice is what she is. She doesn't write or compose her songs. I wish she had more songs where she can prove her vocal talents. I mean her latest songs from On Ne Change Pas they are boring. Anyone could sing them. I don't mean necessarily she'd sing ballads but maybe different sounds : pop, rock, blues, jazz, chanson etc. to show different sides of her voice.

 

And having good sales is only due to good promotion, I mean if you look at Madonna reviving oldfashioned and outdated 80ies dance or Mariah releasing shallow tunes and singing like crap, they still topped the charts, so it has nothing to do with music quality. It's just that they are promoting their songs everywhere and Céline only in USA, Canada and France.

 

The only thing I really expect is that Vegas ends very quickly so she has more time to do what she really wants
