A New Day question

I have a question about the show for those of you who have been there a time a or two. Is everything that Céline says scripted? The reason I was wondering was because I was listening to the Janurary 11th bootleg concert mp3s and noticed that she says the same things as she did on the AND...LILV cd. That's why I was sooooooooooooooooo curious as to if the show was scripted.

I've been 8 times and every time it has been identical. She can throw a few extra lines in there, and she often does...but for the most part, yes, it is scripted.

Yup, its all scripted. She might change a word here or there, or add an additional few lines, but she definitely has a script she sticks to.

In my opinion, I think since it is her show she should say what ever she feels at the moment. I know she needs to learn the dance moves and everything, but she needs to have free reign on what she says in the speeches throughout the show.

it's not that she can't say whatever she wants.. she does say stuff sometimes that not in the script...

 

i have been there 7 times and it's just like every other show, it has a script.. and i am sure that she is the one that decided what to say in the script.. i dont think its a big deal.. most people only go to the concert once.. so they don't even know.. but if you go more then once.. of course you'll notice.. but i don't really care.. i like to mimic it when she says it up there. it's kinda funny.

Basacly Céline says the same things every night. But you don't have to forget that from 99.9% of the ppl who go to the show are first time-ers so they don;t know the show, and they don't know what Céline is going to say. I think that for us the fans who go 6 7 or even 20 times it can be boring to hear the same speeches every night. But it's my oppinion, I don't care what she says every night, I am just enjoying the songs!

It's not boring for her. Singing the same songs and saying the same words every night is kinda stupid. I mean she could change the world and the songs. She has released so many albums and tracks. She doesnt care about the show. She is doing that for money...

I don't agree with the fact that she is doing the show for money. She has all the money that she could possibly need right now, and could retire at any moment if she felt like it. I mean she could have done that a long time ago!

 

I honestly believe that she does the show because he thouroughly enjoys it. She loves every minute of it.

 

I don't think it is boring for her either, because she lets the audience get involved and having a new audience every night livens things up for her a bit every night.

 

The reasons, I believe, that it is scripted is so that the musicians and dancers know when to start, they know that when Celine says a certian word it is their que to hit the stage or start playing a song, or whatever. It just keeps the show running smoothly. And like someone else said earlier, she can change things up whenever she wants...Im sure she decided on what she wanted to say and if she feels like adding a new line or taking out one...she does so! Cause, I've seen her do it many times!

I guess it depends on how she feels, the day I went she didn't do the usual "If I Could" speech, she talked about RC's adventure with NASCAR and how it would be if he ever went to school. But yeh, she usually says the same things, a lot of artists do it.

 

Oh how I regret not buying a recorder... she was so funny!

When I saw the show last year I saw it two times over three nights. She does use the same scripted jokes and lines but she did add a few of her own different lines each night. The thing to remember is that the show is ninety minutes and everything has to fit into that time frame every night. And as someone else said alot of people are probably only going to go to this show one time in their lives so you have to think of it that way. Most people are not like us and willing to go back different times. I'm sure the other Las Vegas shows are similiar. I would think Celine would get bored after the last few years of doing the same show but I really think she is a workaholic and believes that she is touching, at least some, of her audiences each night she sings. Obviously she really could have just retired instead of doing this long engagement, so she must have other reasons for doing it. She also can now see that she has less than two years left on the contract so that probably makes it easier. I think even if she takes a long extended and well deserved break she will come back and perform in some way, maybe not in Vegas, but doing concerts or something.

That's true. She LOVES seeing people get excited. One other thing: She says in "For Keeps" that when she goes to a concert she stands in the first row if she's not tired and dances around and gives the performer 2 thumbs up and says good job. She breathes along with them and says she is even more tired than the performer is when the show is over.

Just like everybody else said the show's dialogue is pretty much scripted. When I was lucky enough to get a backstage tour (I'll talk more about that later in another post) I noticed on an eisel the setlist with the word "Talk" in the spots where she talks.

 

Also, yes, she does add things every now and then. There was a night, December 1st, 2004, when she had MAJOR technical difficulties during "The Power Of Love." She kept making a scissor type cutting motion with her hands to everybody as she continued the song. Once TPOL was over she stopped the show and a stage hand came out and helped her with her microphone. She apologized and continued the show. Well, it started happening again and this time the same guy came out and she started to make some jokes with him. Telling HIM to sing, etc. It was very funy and cute. Well, eventually she ran out of things to talk about, or maybe she couldn't think clearly. Anyway, whichever it was I took it a chance to have my first "talk" with her since I could see she was thinking hard of what to talk about. I yelled out "How's Rene and Rene-Charles." She seemed happy that someone was talking back with her and she said they were fine. So I continued with other topics like golf and shoes. She mentioned, jokingly, how she always can get better at the game. And as far as the shoes go she mentioned how her shoes were lost in opening night. And then finally they got things fixed and the show went on to be awesome.

 

She seemed VERY happy that someone was there to "help" her along or whatever. So that was my first somewhat kinda sorta "talk" with Celine.
