On this album you can find Ziggy (English version) and Tonight We Dance, and English versions of songs Céline recorded/covered, such as Le blues du businessman, performed here by Tom Jones.

Does anyone owe it? What were your impressions of it? Please share. :flowers:

I have the two songs Ziggy and Tonight we dance and.... oh well, I'm too biased LOL. I love french versions 5245245 more than the english ones.

The songs covered by others I don't have.

The English version of Ziggy made me cringy. I like the French one so much better. And I haven't heard the songs covered by others either. (I wonder how Tom Jones handled Le blues du businessman, if anyone nows? :whistling: )

I don't like it. But I think the world is stone by Cyndi Lauper is ok, though Celine is much better.

I have the whole CD. I can say about Tom Jones's version right away - no way it can be compared to any other versions of this song. His voice ruined the song in my opinion. For me it's worse song on this CD, though the song was written almost as masterpiece itself. Can't understand how he could ruined it so badly.

Strange to hear english words to the music that used to be played with french ones. But with the time it gets used to it and it sounds OK.

I like "Only The Very Best". Very profounded interpretation. And Cindy Lauper's version. To tell you the truth her version was the first I heard. Much more later I got to know Celine's one.

Who knows where the road will lead us, only a fool would say...

You can post the english lyrics, please. I'm curious.

Here we go!

"I would love to change the world"

I've been on course since seventeen

It's who you know and where you've been

Until it's you they want to know

I learned the rule there are no rules

Except that gentlemen are fools

I order principles to go

There is no secret to success

As long as others want it less

It is not substance it is style

There is no deal that can't be done

Retaliation can be fun

I never walk that extra mile

I have acquired the winner's touch

Of seeming happy with so much

I can be honest if required

I have succeeded and that's all

Bun then as far as I recall

That's really all that I desired

Oh I would love to change the world

Its many failings one by one

To be the artist, poet, priest

Who feel the battle can be won

And I would love to fall in love

To lose my heart, to lose control

To break away, set rolling free

The darkest secrets of my soul

Oh I would love to change the world

To feel my moment's just begun

To steal the march, to play for keeps

To break the mould, to jump the gun

As no-one else has ever done

And I would love to fall in love

And give you all of me and more

I long to say that I believe

In words I've never used before

In words no lover used before

Oh I would love to change the world

To break away set rolling free

The darkest secrets of my soul

At least the world's not changing me...

Who knows where the road will lead us, only a fool would say...

got this cd.. but i haven't heard it for several years....

but in the meantime, i have listened to french version over and over for the past few years....

that means, french version rocks!!! it's truly classic and english version can't compete with it!!!

but actually you have many french versions! i only have 4 versions: originale, originale live, version 1988, version 1998 live.... and i love the original version the best!!!

starmania looks like really an amazing piece... but i guess right now you can't see it, right??? i would love to see this "opera-rock" written by legendary michel berger and luc plamondon!!!!

I agree, the frank phrasing in the English version of Ziggy doesn't fit the song, it's supposed to be a little more subtle than that I think, well, as subtle as can be.

Good point. sorry :shy:

Not too bad lyrics but definitely not as great to the original who is more deep and dark in my opinion. Thank you. :thumbsup2:

Well, I would love to hear Tom Jones version, if someone could very kindly upload it for us? :D :msn-wink: But I think the english lyrics are weak compared to the french. I love that The french version is about someone who dreams of being an artist, I love the edginess of the lyrics, it's much more rock and roll! Even though I have wanted to know the english lyrics for AGES!!! Thanks for bringing this subject up! :flowers:
