Can someone tell me what's goin' on?

Can someone tell me what's wrong with my CDs? I've got 2 copies of "The Collector's Series Volume One", both distributed by Sony Music Asia. But, the quality of both CDs are obviously different: one is with a gold disc and the other one only with a normal CD. The one with a gold disc has a thicker booklet, I mean the quality of the paper of the accompanying booklet is much thicker and shinier and better in quality whereas the other one has a thinner and less shinier booklet. I bought the one with a gold disc in Malaysia few years ago while the one with a normal CD in Japan not too long ago, yeah, that's a used item. I wonder the latter one is a fake thing or merely a pirated CD but it doesn't look like fake thing at all, from my observation. Anyone has got the same problem like me? Bellamy, I know you're an expert and please tell me what's going on with my two strange CDs. Thank you very much. :blushing:

p.s.: Is a gold disc more durable than a normal CD? I've got some quite-deep (or hard?) scratches on my gold disc and strangely they don't really affect the quality of the sound produced by that CD and I can't believe that! I used to have my first ANDHC before but I accidentally made a light scratch on it. As a result, on one certain track the sound would 'jump' whenever I played the CD and this made me so heartbroken.

these are the pics of the less shinier booklet and a normal CD...

Sorry, I made a mistake. The first two pics are from the album with a gold disc and a better quality booklet whereas the second two pics are from the normal CD. :blushing:

Mmmmm.... that's weird. I'm not sure. But at lease you've got two coppies of the disc. My ANDHC has some VERY LIGHT "dust marks," and it skips some songs. I wiped it with a damp cloth many times and the songs still skip. And this really sucks becuase ANDHC is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE album! And that's the one that gets the defects. :xmas_mad:

Anyway, as for the two colored discs, that truley is weird. I'm not sure what can be going on. :xmas_mellow:

Try ripping the songs off the the original ANDHC CD and burning them to a new blank one, and see if that will give you a CD that doesn't skip. It may or may not work. If it were my ANDHC album that skipped I'd be so pissed. Sometimes CD's will skip not because of dust marks, but scuff marks that might get on them. I used to wipe one of the Cd's with a damp cloth, didn't work, until I actually had to take a wet paper towel, and really wipe it, and scrape off some dirt that was on it, then it worked fine. If it's scratched, not much you can do for it.

yes, golden disc supposd to have longer life. but in real life there's not much difference. gold disc suppose to be more oxidation resistant, not more durable to scrathes. and one scratch may destroy the disc, the other may not. this is very random. and depend on how you scratch it.

I'm not sure about if Malaysia version is different. but gold disc is quite common in CD production.

Thanks to technology, it's good as new, without spending 14 bucks for a new one, however it would be money well spent if buying a new one was the only other option.

Adam, where did you buy the normal disc version?

Well, I got my TCSVO album with a normal CD at a secondhand goods store called Book Off in Tokyo, which is the most popular secondhand goods chainstores across the Nation. In Japan, it's not likely for us to get pirated CDs in any music stores all over Japan. So I don't really doubt its authenticity but I can't understand why there's such difference between my two CDs, which have the same title. I think Sony must have mistaken the specification of the two CDs that I have, or maybe the release date of both CDs are different. The one with a normal CD is actually an imported CD, not the local version, I mean the Japanese version. And strangely, the Japanese version of TCSVO that I have with me is also with a normal CD. Can anybody who's got different versions of the album, like American version, Canadian version or maybe European version share with us what kind of booklet or the type of CD that is included in that album? Thank you very much. :flowers:

Adam, i think our Malaysian version is imported either from Australia or the UK. most of Celine's cds are imported anyways...i think none of them are produced in Malaysia. :ermm:

Do you have a copy of TCSVO? If you do, is it with a gold disc like mine? Actually, I got my TCSVO from a friend of mine who used to work in Speedy (a chainstore that sells cassettes, CDs, VCDs and DVDs) in Malacca and I really didn't know where she got this CD for me. I was so shocked when I found out that it was a gold disc because it's my first time to own a CD with a gold disc. :shocking:

I'm not so sure where the CDs are made under the distribution of Sony Music Asia but I have some North American albums that were made in Austria and it was stated very clear on the surfaces of the CDs. CDs distributed by Sony Music Asia will never have the words stating where the CDs are made. I wonder why.

no i dont have TCSVO. but i did check it out at Borders. imo, your cd came from somewhere else. definately not Malaysia as all Celine cds that i have seen so far has an "imported by" sticker on em. the booklet is the normal shiny one. it didnt look any different from the ATW booklet. the quality i mean

It's a consolation. I'm glad we have some similiarities.

The gold one is probably fake... I too was fooled into buying something similar on ebay...

I bought a CD with the "I Want You To Need Me" coverart of Celine laying on a sofa, when the CD came it was great quality and the CD was professionally printed but the Major mistake made was, the CD Disc said that the album was produced by James Horner lol.... even though the CD Tracklistings were from all her albums, like different songs. I also notcied that there was loads of spelling mistakes and also yes, the book was thicker. So its definitly a fake item cause theres no way Sony would get so much wrong, especially if it stated that all tracks were produced by James Horner, thats actually illegal to have credited the wrong people... If i can get pics I will

ATTENTION GUYS!!! NEVER EVERUSE WATER OR TISSUE PAPER OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT OTHER THAN SPECIAL CLEANING SOLUTION TO CLEAN UP THE SURFACE OF YOUR CD'S OR DVD'S COS THEY WILL DAMAGE YOUR PRECIOUS DISCS AND MAKE THEM EVEN WORSE THAN BEFORE. Sometimes, a tissue paper can be coarse like a normal paper especially when we rub it hard and it will give more scratches to your CDs or DVDs. Water is certainly not the best solution for cleaning up the surface of your CDs especially tap water cos it might be dirty and bring bad effects to them. Please get your special cleaning solution as shown in the first picture below like me in your local music store. After you get your cleaning solution, do clean your CDs like what is shown on the second picture and NEVER EVER clean your disc like in the third picture below. I've used lots of kinds of cleaning solution before and all of them would tell you to clean your CDs that way. Hope my information will be helpful to you guys. :msn-tongue:

p.s.: Recently, I got a small machine from an electrical store in Tokyo and it has two functions which I found very very helpful to my CDs and DVDs: to clean up the surface of the discs and to repair the scatches (not very hard or deep ones) accidentally made on your discs. This machine really helps me tremendously but it cost me almost 6000 Yen (about 60 US Dollars) to get it!

Not really. I've seen Celine's "Falling Into You" album with some lines of words like 'Edaran oleh... ' (in Malay meaning 'Distributed by... ') and 'Dicetak oleh... ' ('Printed by... ') followed by some lines of local addresses printed at the back of the CD album in a local music store in Malacca before before I came to Japan. And of course, like what you've said, I've also seen some Celine's albums with 'IMPORTED' stickers on them too in the same store and I remember they were under the distribution of Sony Music Asia. I've never seen any Celine's album imported from North America or Europe in Malaysia before. Maybe that's because of the currency difference between Malaysia and those regions or maybe too expensive to 'bring' them in??

The one with a gold disc actually doesn't look like a fake thing at all from my observation. There's NO spelling mistake AT ALL in the booklet of the album, neither on the CD too. And it has an authenticity certification sticker on the cover of the booklet which was issued by the Malaysian government. Morever, I got this album from a regular music store, not from a roadside music stall overwhelmed by pirated CDs. I can assert that it's 100% authentic. (Please refer to the picture below.)

Nope, I don't think you can get it in Malaysia. This machine was invented by a Japanese, if I'm not mistaken and I heard that he's still in the middle of applying the patent for his 'invention'.
