Nautanick Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Having not listened to any of Celine's French music for a while, a few days ago I decided to reacquaint myself with that side of her art. I listened to all six of her French albums on Sony in a row, and in the process I fell for them all over again. The one I fell the hardest for was "D'eux", considered by many to be her finest French album, and I totally agree with that sentiment. I may be a bit biased, since "D'eux" was the album that introduced me to Celine's French language work, but I adore this album. It has something for everyone - rock, jazz, pop, a bit of folk music - and Celine performs them all with the brilliance we've come to expect from her. To me, the best songs on this album (a tall order since they're all so good), are "Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore", "Le Ballet", "Cherche Encore", "J'Attendais", "Destin", and "Vole". The numbers certainly back up this assertion - "D'eux" spent 44 weeks at #1 in France, becoming the best-selling album in Francophone musical history. In addition, it cracked the top 10 in the UK, becoming the first French-language album to be certified gold in that country. With over 8 million copies sold worldwide, "D'eux" is the best-selling French album of all time. So what are other people's opinions on this album? Do you think as I do, that it's one of the shining jewels of Celine's career? Do you think that it's overrated, that another of her French albums may deserve the honors listened above more than this one? All opinions are welcome. Quote

Yangedd Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 This album was my introduction to Celine's french music and I loved it right away. I remember listening to it and thinking "Yeah, this is actually good". I played "Tu M'Aimes Encore" so much at first that now I know all the words to it and can sing along. SimplyCeline Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 I adore this album! It is one of my favorite Celine albums ever, and easily holds its own against some of her English albums.I find it so hard to pick a favorite song from this album, but the song - La Memoire D'Abraham - is so gorgeous! I love that song, it always makes me get teary. lol! Celine touches on so many musical styles on this album, making it so very versatile and therefore easy for more people to appreciate it. Andrew lol, how funny is this < Quote

poetic Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 I love this album, definitely one of her best albums. Although I must admit that for me the production and arranged of some songs like more in her live album Live a Paris.
Nautanick Posted December 21, 2005 Author Posted December 21, 2005 I love this album, definitely one of her best albums. Although I must admit that for me the production and arranged of some songs like more in her live album Live a Paris. Oh definitely! Some of the performances on Live A Paris are better than the studio versions, and that's saying something. Examples of this would be "J'Attendais", "Destin", "Prierre Paienne" and "Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore". Especially in "J'Attendais", when she finishes the second verse, steps onto the stage, the crowd starts going crazy, and then she picks it up "J'aaaaattendais..." Absolutely wonderful Quote
justinecoria Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 The numbers certainly back up this assertion - "D'eux" spent 44 weeks at #1 in France, becoming the best-selling album in Francophone musical history.I just wanna add something. Do you know who took the first place from Céline ? It's... ...Céline, with "Falling Into You". Ain't that sort of funny? Anyway, D'Eux is probably the best French album I've ever listened to, (and I'm French ).Pour Que Tu M'Aimes Encore is a masterpiece. The lyrics are wonderful, Celine's voice is so pure, and so powerful at the end. It's such a good combination of finesse and power. When listening to J'Irais ou Tu Iras, Destin and Prière Païenne, I just can't prevent myself from dancing. Finally Vole is so touching. Quote
Terre Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 D'eux is simply incredible!! I could listen to it 24/7! I really can't find the words to describe how much I adore this album. firebird Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 I like D'Eux but I like Live à Paris much better. The songs sound really amazing live, more lively than on the album. Still it is an amazing album. Quote
Célinefull Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Honestly, I think Dion chante plamondon is better, but I do agree that D'eux is some of her finest work especially when just looking at the French side of her music. J'irai ou tu iras is my favorite song on the album, and I love it most when it was performed on the Memphis concert, I really do love it.
