global warming maybe?! it does seem that the weather is getting more extreme; more heat or more rain etc etc... they are also predicting a much colder Winter than last year and last year was really cold with a lot of snow already!

Edwin, yes that is a big sum. I want to do my PhD and I didn't get a scholarship (the prof said my application indicated that i didn't need one :S ). The SL covers only the tuition. And since I am broke I need at least to cover my living expenses for the first year and a half till i find some work there and start making money. Really i've been having a rough few weeks, very stressful...

That would be aawesome!! I mean another cold and snowy winter!! I loved loved LOVED last winter, it was the best in years! I'm so sick of black Christmases and long, dark, rainy and "mushy" periods from October til March with practically no snow, that anything is better than that. Winters are supposed to be cold and snowy! It gives some hope in the middle of this global warming...

You want to do your PhD and they didn't give you a scholarship? That is just so wrong on many levels. They should be ashamed of themselves. I have to say that students here in SA are very lucky: There is almost always funding available for post grad students. Maybe it is to motivate students to further their studies.

Wow, that would be amazing. But I understand the no funding. You have to get your post secondary education funded yourself here, unless you're smart or athletic enough to be offered a scholarship.

I think it may have something to do with the fact that we still have a shortage in people doing post grad studies, especially in things like science and mathematics.

Only a select few get scholarships here in India. Maybe cos there are lots of students applying for it Like Edwin said, one has to be extra smart to be eligible to apply for them.

Thanks for not making a new post for that Eh, what is old? After 21, I stopped caring I can drive, vote, smoke, gamble and drink legally now. The only thing to look forward to is the senior citizen discount at 55

well it didn't help that i applied for the january session which usually is an extra session to apply. i missed out on applying for the main session, that is where most of the funding goes.

 

i did get a masters from germany and graduated with distinction. that should mean something, especially when u factor in the fact that the level of education in germany is reaaally high.

 

but once i get there i could try and get a scholarship for the second year, hopefully
