At the point when Claudette said that - I feel she was wrong. We saw Celine out in what, like 1 or 2 months after that? I don't think Celine got better so fast if she was at such as low point when Claudette said about totally losing control of her muscles.

I thought Claudette (also) said that even after we had already seen Céline out and about. Though to be honest, I didn’t really follow her stream of “updates”.

He doesn't live with her and given that covid was still a thing at the time I'm guessing may not have physically been around so much.

I suppose it also depends on Claudette's original statement in French. It would clearly have been true to say that Celine does loose total control of her muscles but it is for short periods of time not a permanent thing.

I think they took her words verbatim… bad case of google translate.

Yeah and was she meaning right then or did she mean more in the past. Or as we have wondered how much or how little and when did her siblings find things out.

My partner and I were both disturbed by seeing Celine’s health crisis in the documentary. My partner said he never wants to watch that again — but we both agreed it’s so important for people to see it in order to understand what she’s been facing and to raise awareness.
Celine herself apparently said she didn’t want that part edited so people will understand. It just made me so sad that this was just one of many moments she’s had like that.
And the moment that followed was so beautiful.

Monday night was... a lot. And sitting in the front row, a few feet away from a giant screen, made it even more so.
But what I can say is I'm glad Celine paired up with a filmmaker who knows what they're doing and who she gelled with. And not one who came in as a fan per se. That kept it all from veering into hagiographic territory, and instead focused on the storytelling, not the celebrity. Just a really impactful film, and one with universal appeal. I think it was almost therapy for Celine, and it can do a lot for her in terms of clearing the slate for the next chapter of her life and career.
Celine's willingness to show so much and with such unvarnished honestly, is really a gift. I can't think of may people - of her stature or otherwise - who would be this open. So much respect to her for that.
I liked that it was focused on the "here and now" and didn't rehash everything we already know. It's a specific point in time, not a definitive Celine encyclopedia. And a really important point at that, plus one that more people could identify with than with, well, mega stardom.
Now, of course, that had the unfortunate effect of minimizing some important parts of Celine's story, but it was so much more interesting to delve into Celine's psyche now vs dwelling on the past. I was sad by the relative lack of Rene and RC, but understand why it was so. (Plus I guess RC wasn't living at home, it was the tail end of Covid, and he already got his star turn in the last doc.)
I know some have complained but I quite liked a lot of the archival footage chosen. Her vocal warmups during the JJG era, her playing Moonlight Sonata on the piano (which I'm sure must have delighted Irene, seeing as she made a whole film about that piece!), her singing Habenera or imitating instruments during Le Ballet band intros ... those are some of my favorites. Of course there are others I would have liked to see, and conversely some of what was used didn't really work for me, but you can't have it all!
The low point for me really was the entire John Farnham segment... like, why? Why did this random dude (whom I personally ever heard of pre The Voice) get more screen time than Rene? (Or so it seemed, at least). It was just so out of place and overplayed. The only reason I can think of to keep it was that maybe this was in fact her planning her next residency (as she mentioned wanting that version of Help in the show during the Australian interview).
And the even lower point - Love Again voiceover/ dubbing recording session. Again, why? That project was so cringe. I really want to forget it ever existed. I really didn't need to see Priyanka and hear those cheesy lines again. Ugh.
(To be clear, I mean the scenes related to the LA film, not the recording session of the LA song, which clearly is pivotal to the storytelling in this film.)
But those were my only real complaints. Otherwise, I loved what Irene did in juxtaposing Celine's whirlwind superstar career with the reality of her illness. Particularly powerful were those sequences of her dancing, contrasted with scenes of her physio, trying to get basic movement and agility back into those same muscles.
The contrast between what was, and what is; the loss of what was and may never be again. There's sadness in it all, but thanks to Celine's personality and humor, even in her darkest moments, it's never depressing.
Really looking forward to watching it again. There was just too much there to absorb in one viewing.

I applaud her and and can't believe her bravery. I just know it will kill me when I see it. The awareness she will bring will be immeasurable I just wish as you she never had to experience this.

I agree with everything you’re saying.
The John Farnham section was confusing because it was so long. And there were so many other important things they could’ve included instead. I know Celine is inspired by him so maybe she insisted that section was included?
I also would have loved a few different clips of her performing. Irene used several scenes of Celine’s 1995 Paris concert — which was fine but she had so many other concerts to pull from.
Also I’m on the fence about Treat Her Like A Lady being included when there were so many other iconic songs that could have been chosen. Maybe I’ll feel differently after watching again.
I really didn’t need to hear Mariah’s name in this documentary either, during the LA dubbing session.
But the documentary was beautifully done. I hope it’s going to make a big impact. Both for Celine’s career and for SPS research/awareness. I think people will be amazed by her rawness and the fact that this is far away from most other documentaries about superstars. It stands out.
I hope this documentary inspires people who maybe don’t know many details about Celine to go digging. And for old fans to return to her music.
I think a lot of people will be like, “Ohhhhhh this is why she’s sounded so different over the past several years” and fall in love with her all over again.
I’d love to be a fly on the wall in the homes of Adele and Sam Smith and David Foster and Barbra Streisand etc and hear what they have to say regarding how SPS has impacted Celine’s voice for 17 years.

Must be so cathartic for her once the premieres were over--the long-guarded info she's kept has been set free. I've no doubt that would benefit her even physically.

What even is a weirdo? I have always loved that she is authentic from the very beginning and maybe that makes her seem weird to some being in touch with her feelings and not self conscious about showing them. I will proudly wear the banner "weirdo" myself right along with Celine.

Yeah towards the end of it.
It was really hard to watch and a few people in the cinema were sobbing watching it.
My heart broke for her but she’s amazing for keeping this in the doc. It couldn’t have been easy to share it with the world.
