Any video on that I missed it.

I recorded from my iPhone, but don’t know how to upload? Any ideas without using YouTube?

Already posted about it in the SPS thread, but putting here too, as it’s a great tie-in to the doc:

This really goes to show - we have no idea what Celine does from day to day. She’s out of the public eye yes and people just assume she’s not working but really she could have any number of side projects going on. It’s fascinating.

The June release date seemed odd to me at first, but then I quite liked the idea. I am tired of Celine releasing material at the end of the year. Maybe June will be less competitive.

I hope the documentary is successful so that more SPS awareness is raised. Also, because I want Celine to have her moment. Posted Image

I agree I like the idea of her music moving from fall months to the summer months. However, this one had be baffled. It’s not an optimal time to sit in the house and stream media or even for Celine to make appearances to promote, shows like Kelly Clarkson etc are all dark those months and air repeats. However, who knows if there plan is to promote anyways, could go either way.

It’s 2024, not 1998. People may not be glued to a TV set in the summer, but “smartphones” are apparently on year-round and ads can easily be bought. And it’s not like people don’t watch streaming once the weather is nice. ”Red, White and Royal Blue” was a pretty big sensation last summer on Amazon, and while I’m not saying this will be a sure success I think it will be better promoted by her team than “Love Again” ever was…

Since is being made in part and shown exclusively on Amazon prime, that’ll mean it’ll stay on their platform indefinitely. It’s not like a random movie that they bring in for a few months, this documentary in part belongs to them.

Once you subscribe to prime, it’ll always be there, no need to download.

If you opt to rent it, it’ll disappear.

For what it's worth, Tribeca announced their lineup and... no Celine (despite them specifically highlighting music documentaries). Posted Image
I'm really perplexed by this doc's absence from preeminent festivals...

https://tribecafilm....ure-film-lineup

"Music documentaries highlight the boldest voices of each generation with They All Came Out To Montreux with Prince, Sting, Carlos Santana, Aretha Franklin, and Keith Richards; Satisfied about Renée Elise Goldsberry; Linda Perry: Let It Die Here with Linda Perry, Dolly Parton, Brandi Carlile, and Christina Aguilera; and Avicii - I'm Tim with Tim ”Avicii” Bergling, Chris Martin and David Guetta. Renée Elise Goldsberry and Linda Perry will be performing following the world premiere of their respective films."

Well it’s certainly not a good sign that it seems to be skipping the festival circuit. Most notable projects premiere at a festival.

But Irene Taylor has nothing against festivals, quite the contrary. Her studio's website lists the number of festivals where she has presented her documentaries: https://vermilionpictures.com/

We can therefore assume that she also wanted to present her latest film - potentially the most famous of her career - at a major festival. If this were the case, and the documentary didn't qualify, it wouldn't be a good omen for its quality.

Unless there are reasons we don't know about.

I’m wondering if when this documentary took the SPS route and is probably focusing less on her music changed the things for the tribeca music category that Scielle spoke of. I just hope this documentary was done in a coherent and respectful way and isn’t chasing for the commercial success.

The official previews say that the film will be a “love letter to music,” so maybe music will be important in it after all? Especially since Irene Taylor has already made documentaries in which music plays a big role - “Homeless: The Soundtrack” (2018) or “Moonlight Sonata” (2019).

Taylor's style has so far been on the antipodes of courting commercial success. That's also why I was surprised that she was entrusted with making Céline's biopic; the two seemed to come from different worlds and different aesthetics - but that sometimes bodes well. I'm counting on the film to be honest and artistically successful. That's all and that's all.

And most of her previous work was also made for steaming platforms (mostly HBO, but Leave No Trace was for Hulu), and they all premiered at festivals.
I'd say the most "commercial" to date was Beware the Slenderman because, well, true crime.

But do we really think this documentary is so bad in terms of none of the speculated festivals of which it was submitted wanted to have anything to do with it? Surely there must be more as to why this isn’t premiering at ANY film festivals.

Time will tell soon here in just about 2 months; I wonder if in two months time we will be here at this forum wondering why such a touching and empowering documentary wasn’t part of any festivals… let’s hope it’s after we see it that we the general public and fans disagree with its snub instead of agree that it missed the mark so to say.

Michael J. Fox documentary STILL premiered on the Sundance film festival in January 2023 and later on Apple TV. Strange, that there is no film festival premiere for Celine's documentary :hmm: .

Could be a conscious choice though. Honestly, the whole concept of film festivals can feel a bit elitist. A select few get to see a movie months in advance, not because of any particular interest but because they're there and have the means for it.
I can totally see how these festivals are perfect networking opportunities for people in the industry (and just a really fun activity for those who live around). But for this movie specifically? This movie is supposed to answer three years worth of our questions. I wouldn’t feel this way if it were any other movie she made. But for this documentary, I don't want to rely on reviews for weeks/months while a bunch of 'randos' get to watch it in between two other screeners. It wouldn't feel fair and it would defeat part of the concept (the 'love letter to fans' part).

A global premier date may indicate  that she wants all of us to be able to see it at the same time.

It's a very nice vision, but I admit that I don't believe in it very much. The Grammys and Vogue, the Vegas residencies, the high ticket prices and lack of even occasional free concerts, and the whole world of conceptual fashion - all of this was and is absolutely elitist. I don't think Céline has any particular democratic sensibility (that's an observation, not an accusation). Even if she doesn't like the critics' circle, in which she almost never got good press.

Documentary film festivals that I know of are events for passionate film lovers rather than snobs. And possible awards at a festival greatly increase interest in the film and its viewership, so...

I personally use festivals as a barometer of what’s worth my time. I don’t go that often anymore, since it’s so much easier now to see pretty much anything you’d want, but have been to most of the major ones at least once. It’s a great experience, you always meet interesting people.
But these days, with the glut of content out there and not nearly enough hours in a lifetime to consume it all, if I’m feeling like movie night I’ll just look up the winners or official selection of these festivals for ideas of what to watch. I may not love it all, but know whatever I find on those lists will be interesting, challenging, inventive in some way. Festivals are great curators, if nothing else.
Intentionally skipping the festival circuit, and the exposure it provides, strikes me as a strange move.

I just have a hard time believing that not one single festival was interested, if it were indeed shopped around to all of them.

There may be information in the documentary that they don’t want to get out until the premiere date.  Maybe there is something that will create some buzz… new album etc.

I agree and disagree.

I don't think she's very in touch with what the average person is interested in or can afford.
Her ticket prices are insane and will probably remain so if she ever returns.

That said, she is kind of unique in how accessible she can be in person.
Of course you have to be at the right place at the right time, but I do feel all those hotel signings and singalongs are a conscious move on her part.
You can (or could in the past) buy her cheapest concert ticket (or even no ticket at all) and still meet her many times.
She's also done hundreds if not thousands of 'free' M&G sessions, which is extremely rare in her business.

Anyway, "I want all my fans to see this movie at the same time" is just something I could imagine her saying :)

But we'll see.

I don't think her ticket prices are insane, especially compared to other big names in the industry. At least not the normal value... It's when the inflation algorithm of ticketmaster etc. sets in, that is when the prices go insane.

However, I do feel/hope that the documentary will reveal certain things, that they don't want to reveal before June 25th. I dunno how these festivals work, but I doubt you could keep everything under embargo if it's shown 2 months in advance.

True, according to almost all testimonies she is, in direct contact, immensely nice, approachable, treating everyone with respect, regardless of their status. Only that this is a matter of personal culture rather than democratic views. And interacting with the crowd of fans outside the hotel probably gives her as much pleasure as they do; after all, she's not an embarrassed introvert who sacrifices herself for them. However Céline has never seemed to manifest any interest in the growing problem of social inequality.

Paradoxically, this is somehow indicative of her sense of reality. A millionaire with a consumerist lifestyle concerned about social inequality would be as much of a hypocrite as her show-biz colleagues “concerned about the environment” and leaving a carbon footprint the size of a medium-sized country.
