Chicago? Wasn’t that 1998?

I was mainly talking about Providence and Columbus but generally her LTAL tour performances were the best ever.

Providence - September 25, 1999

Columbus - September 27, 1999 (Video is incorrectly labeled as April 1999)

Unpopular opinion time... I really love this Larry King performance. She struggles through the belts and highs (Fore(flat)eeeeeever this way) but there's always been something about this one that has stuck with me. There's a rawness and extra emotion that I love. I believe this was the one year anniversary of 9/11 so maybe she was feeling extra emotional?

For vocally stellar performances definitely WCD and Oscars for me!

I found some new exciting info recently about "My Heart Will Go On"!  :)

Celine's "My Heart Will Go On" is the MOST STREAMED #1 SONG FROM THE 90's!, with an incredible 651,522,000 official U.S. On-demand streams, as of July 2020. (By August 2021, most likely the song now has more than 700 million streams!)
This info was found in an article titled: Which No. 1 Singles from the 80's and 90's Stand the Test of Time? on Jezebel.com
The writer said he reached out to Nielsen Music to request U.S. streaming numbers for all 375 songs that carried the distinction of being at some point the most popular song in the country in the 1980's and 1990's, according to trusted industry source Billboard, and that he wanted to see which smashes stood the test of time. The writer pointed out "Early-to-mid 80's songs fill the top 10, which includes ONLY ONE from the '90s (My Heart Will Go On, by Celine Dion)!

Buzzfeed.com named "My Heart Will Go On" the "GREATEST BALLAD OF ALL TIME".

According to YouTube insights as of July 2021, "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine, has more than 2.5 BILLION views worldwide, since September 2014!
(can you imagine the YouTube views/on-demand streams if the official music video was posted by Team Celine on Celine's official YouTube channel?!)

Also, according to Chartmasters.org: "My Heart Will Go On" is the most successful song of all time!, at 62,750,000 EAS (Equivalent album sales), as of June 2018.
Chartmasters also stated: "The physical single sold more than 4.6 million units in Germany, the UK and France. Since it's release to date, no other song sold that much in this format."

This song is absolutely timeless and legendary! (Just like Celine, and her voice)

I wonder whats going on with the Grammys process.
Why the song got nominated and won at the 1999 Grammys (where she sung The prayer)? And not at 1998 Grammys that she was nominated for Tell him (which is from the same album/year with My heart will go on and Titanic OST) where she was about to performe Tell him and finally performed My heart will go on.
I guess all those should be in 1998 Grammys and in 1999 to be just the nomination  & performance for The prayer.

Man they should upload the official video. In my opinion her official account looks so strange with the video of her most important song nowhere to be found. Anyway thank's for the info ;)

Because the song was released in December 1997, and could not got nominated for Grammy 1998 (the nominations were already announced). Tell him was released two months earlier, in October.

So instead, MHWGO got nominated for 1999 Grammy. As for the performances, Celine was supposed to sing Tell Him with Barbra on Grammy 1998, but Barbra got sick, so Celine performed MHWGO.

According to Billboard, as reported on 11/3/21, Celine's "My Heart Will Go On" is one of the longest leading #1's ever!, and is one of only 15 No. 1 songs to reign for at least 10 weeks among 400 total leaders on Billboard's Pop Airplay chart, which reflects airplay, as tabulated by MRC Data, on over 150 mainstream top 40-formatted radio stations, dating to the chart's inception in October 1992.

Another amazing chart accomplishment for "My Heart Will Go On"!

POPULAR

Back in January of 1998, the Titanic soundtrack and Celine's classic album "Let's Talk About Love" both featuring "My Heart Will Go On" began a legendary chart run, when the albums dominated the Billboard charts for months!

Sony music had one of the rarest, most clever marketing strategies ever, when they released two albums on 11/18/97, featuring Titanic's theme song "My Heart Will Go On", the Titanic soundtrack and Celine's "Let's Talk About Love". This simultaneous release of both albums proved to be one of the most successful strategies/plans of all time! The plan's success is very evident in the chart action achieved by both of the albums and with the incredible success of "My Heart Will Go On".

- By January 1998, Celine's album "Let's Talk About Love" became Celine's fastest-selling album, selling over 3 million copies in the U.S. within two months, and reached #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, only to be dethroned the next week by the Titanic soundtrack, which took over the #1 position at the end of January!
- By mid-February, both albums posted huge gains for several weeks:
One week in February 1998, both albums experienced tremendous growth-the Titanic soundtrack sold a whopping 848,000 copies, while "Let's Talk About Love" sold 339,000 copies! In just that week, these albums sold almost 1.2 million copies!!
The soundtrack had a gain of 44%, and set the record at that time for the largest sales week outside of the Christmas shopping season, and first month of release!
As Billboard's Geoff Mayfield put it: "So large was the growth that, if an album sold only what Titanic gained-259,000 units- it would have ranked No. 3 for the week."
- By April 4th,1998, the albums had a hugely successful week: Titanic soundtrack spending its 11th week at #1, with Celine's "Let's Talk About Love" rising back to #2, and "My Heart Will Go On" was spending it's 10th consecutive week at #1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary, and Hot 100 Airplay/Radio Songs chart! The song was also experiencing amazing record-setting airplay: Billboard said "Record-holder Celine Dion, who tops the airplay list with 108 million impressions, has surpassed 104 million listeners for nine weeks."

- The Titanic soundtrack spent a record-breaking 16 consecutive weeks at #1, and during that amazing run, there were 12 weeks when Celine's album was at #2, right below Titanic, including a consecutive 4 week, and 5 week stretch! That is just phenomenal!
When the Titanic soundtrack was spending its incredible 16th week at #1 on the Billboard 200 in May 1998, "My Heart Will Go On" was STILL in the top 10 on the Hot 100 Airplay/Radio Songs, and STILL in the top 5 on the Adult Contemporary chart!

- During the Titanic soundtrack's 16 week run at #1, the soundtrack sold over 200,000 copies a week for 15 consecutive weeks!!
"It was a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon", "This thing was the kind of album that did Christmas week numbers in January and February" said Geoff Mayfield, director of charts, and Billboard columnist.

- The successful duo of the Titanic soundtrack and Celine's album "Let's Talk About Love", both featuring "My Heart Will Go On", ended 1998 as the year's #1, and #2 album in the U.S.!!
Titanic sold over 9.2 million copies in the U.S., and Celine's album sold over 7.9 million copies, for a total of more than 17.1 million units sold in one year!! Truly astonishing!
Chart records, achievements and sales are still important today, with many new chart and sales records occurring frequently, but I believe it's safe to say, just like Billboard said: "This is a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon"! These chart achievements are still legendary! :heartbounce:

My Heart will go on is one of my favorite Celine songs from the late 90's. I remember when I first heard the song in 1999 and I was only 5 years old at the time

I have no idea how it took me 20 years to discover this alternate version of MHWGO. Why Sony didn't officially remaster and release it on the 20 anniversary? You think they would actually want to make money off the 90s song with the most streams today.

So incredible this song still moves people today!! From seeing her in concert twice, there's nothing like that feeling once you hear that opening tin whistle solo (by the incredible Elise Duguay) and the crowd goes WILD!!!! Everyone in the arena lighting up their phones and waving them. Mess by the end.

Throwback to this time of year, in 1998, when Celine's mega hit classic "My Heart Will Go On" had just debuted at #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, one of the first 10 songs to ever in history to achieve that! "My Heart Will Go On had also just been named the most-played radio hit of all time in the U.S. as well, reaching the widest radio audience AND achieving the most radio spins in a single week!

To celebrate this anniversary, here are some more amazing chart achievements and honors that "My Heart Will Go On" has had:
  • In 1998, Celine’s signature classic was one of the top 5 most played Adult Contemporary songs of the year with almost 36,000 radio spins! After spending 38 weeks- which included an incredible 10 consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart, My Heart Will Go On went on to top the Billboard Adult Contemporary recurrent chart for 7 weeks! The iconic song was one of the top 10 most played mainstream Top 40 songs that year as well with more than 82,000 radio spins!
  • Overall, across all radio formats, My Heart Will Go On was a top 15 most played song of the year and received more than 187,000 radio spins!! :)
  • My Heart Will Go On entered the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart at #1, stayed there for two consecutive weeks, and spent its first 7 weeks in the top 5 on that chart!
  • In December of 2003, per Billboard, My Heart Will Go On was recognized by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems (BDS) for certified airplay in North America of more than 400,000 spins. My Heart Will Go On won a BDS certification spin award for accumulating more than 400,000 radio spins/detections!!
  • In 1998, Billboard asked radio program directors aka "PD's" to rate/list the most important artists and songs of the year. For AC stations, Celine was named the most important artist, and "My Heart Will Go On" was considered the most important song!
  • According to Billboard's radio monitor, New Research Group president Rick Torcasso said that programmer's "need to look at creating a variety on their radio stations." As an example, he cited "My Heart Will Go On", Celine Dion's theme song from blockbuster film "Titanic". "That song was such a huge hit, he says, that country stations should have played it too. It comes down to expanding the format" says Torcasso, and it's a scary thought for people. But look at AC stations playing Shania Twain and look at the ratings they get. In country, instead of expanding the format, they limit it. It all depends on how you market it" he adds, "Can you [just throw] a Celine Dion on a country station and get away with it? Probably not, but you can if you market it [properly]".
  • In December of 1998, Music & Media said "There's life in the Titanic after all, as the band keeps playing Celine Dion's songs. That's how the year could be summarized for Sony Music, which dominates M&M's 1998's year-end charts as no company has ever done before in the history of these charts. The Japanese major emerges as the top company and top label, both in albums and singles, while Celine Dion dominates the top singles and top albums sections by a wide margin, with Titanic's anthem My Heart Will Go On and Let's Talk About Love, respectively. Dion is also the top overall artist in both categories, as well as being top female artist for both singles and albums."
  • Music & Media also said- "Queen Celine reigns supreme. Without question, Celine Dion was Europe's artist of the year in 1998, taking home six sales awards in a coup unprecedented in the history of Music & Media's European charts. Dion tops both the singles and albums year-end charts. She is also the best selling artist in both categories overall, and therefore takes the honours of the biggest selling female act on both charts. The artist's English language album "Let's Talk About Love" released on 17 November 1997, is easily the biggest selling album in Europe so far this decade. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) confirms that the last official European sales update for the album, dating from September this year (1998), has "Let's Talk About Love" at 8.5 million units- that's more than any other album has reached since IFPI Platinum Europe statistics began in January 1994." Sony Music Europe Senior VP marketing Richard Ogden contributes the growth of Dion's fanbase "specifically to My Heart Will Go On," the theme tune from Titanic.

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) confirms that the last official European sales update for the album, dating from September this year (1998), has "Let's Talk About Love" at 8.5 million units- that's more than any other album has reached since IFPI Platinum Europe statistics began in January 1994." My heart will go on is one of my favorite songs from Celine. It brings back good childhood memories every time I hear the song. I was five years old when I heard the song for the first time.

On R&R's AC Most Played Recurrents chart, Celine's "My Heart Will Go On" was STILL in the top 10 on the Oct. 1st, 1999 chart!

November 1999-
On R&R's AC Most Played Recurrents chart, Celine's "My Heart Will Go On" was STILL in the top 15 on the Nov. 5th, 1999 chart!

The Gavin Report asked several people in the music industry their favorite songs of 1999, or of the 1990's. Mark Rizzo, Senior Director National Promotion, Adult Formats, Capitol Records named "My Heart Will Go On" his #1 top song of the 90's!
Michael Martucci at TUCCI Promotions named "My Heart Will Go On" one of his top 10 songs of 1999!
John Patrick a PD with WBXX radio in Battle Creek, Mich. named "My Heart Will Go On" one of his picks in the Top Ten A/C Songs of the '90's!
Lisa Thomas, APD/MD, KDMX-Dallas named Celine's "My Heart Will Go On" as one of her top ten songs and artists of the '90's!

2000-
In April of 2000, and for chart week of April 7, 2000, Radio & Records posted thier TOP 100 AC POWER GOLD chart, and Celine's  "My Heart Will Go On" was in the top 10 most played AC hits of all time, and by December 2000, chart week Dec. 1, 2000 "My Heart Will Go On" was in the top 20 on the chart!

2002-
Music Week magazine released their list of the Top 100 biggest-selling singles of all time in the U.K. for the November 23rd, 2002 issue, and "My Heart Will Go On" was one of the top 40 best selling singles of all time on the Top 100 list with sales of more than 1.3 million!

2020-
In 2020 Dave's Music Database website, posted a chart called "Radio & Records/Mediabase Top 150 singles 1973-2020" and Celine's "My Heart Will Go On" placed in the top 10 on that chart!

What an absolutely timeless, iconic, legendary, enduring, essential song standard, and cultural treasure "My Heart Will Go On" has been, still is, and will always be!

Can you imagine if Sony Music had released millions of copies of "My Heart Will Go On" in the U.S. instead of only a VERY limited release of only 650,000 in order to drive the sales up higher for the Titanic soundtrack and Celine's "Let's Talk About Love" album? Can you imagine the total number of weeks the song could have spent at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100?
I'm sure if Sony Music would have released four or five million copies for purchase, they all would have been sold within just a few months, and with the record-breaking radio airplay that was happening for the song in 1998, I'm sure the classic hit song would have stayed at #1 for several months!  Also, can you imagine the massive record-setting streams "My Heart Will Go On' would have achieved if music streaming was around in 1998?!
With all the hype today that songs get when they have a certain number of streams on Spotify within 24 hours, or in a week, or when they hit 1 Billion streams, I'm sure the streams of "My Heart Will Go On" would have been absolutely just incredible!
And, can you imagine if Sony Music/Team Celine would have released Celine's official "My Heart Will Go On" music video on Celine's official YouTube years ago?  Just like Whitney's "I Will Always Love You", I'm sure "My Heart Will Go On" would easily have more than a billion YouTube views already!

We can dream :)
I hope you all like this topic and post, and might learn new exciting facts about the incredible succes of "My Heart Will Go On"!

Hi! :welcome_wave: I know my new post the other day was VERY long lol  , but I was just excited to share the info I had found about some of the incredible successs that "My Heart Will Go On" has experienced that I was surprisingly unware of until just recently.
I read through many past issues of some very well respected music industry magazine charts and articles, and some of the info I was discovering was brand new to me, and was amazing to learn about!
I thought I had probably read almost everything to do with the phenomenal success of "My Heart Will Go On" but, when I came across the information recently that I hadn't known of, it was really exciting! :-D I'm always excited to find out new info about the success "My Heart Will Go On" has achieved and how much the iconic song has connected with people since it was first released!! If you have a few minutes, and are a HUUUGGGEEE forever fan of "My Heart Will Go On" like me, please take a moment to read over the previous post, and some of the info you discover might be just as exciting to you as it was to me!  Not all of it might be new info for you, but I bet a lot could be! I was shockingly unaware of some of the additional charts and sales achievements that I was still unaware of. Please comment if you learned ANY new info.

I'm thankful for this forum and community here! God bless you all :)

Celine Dion was HUGE back then! She was bigger than Britney Spears, Beyoncé or Lady Gaga ever were in terms of sales. IMO commercially speaking only Adele can match what Celine Dion represented between 1995 and 1999. It was really tremendous! She was everywhere and I loved it! :)
