Right, I watched the Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez yesterday and it is a typical Rom-Com. It's sweet and entertaining. And yes, if Love Again was filmed 20 years ago, it would have been a hit. The German movie version SMS für Dich is more serious and Love Again is like a wannabe Drama Love Story, which is not sweet enough for a typical Rom-Com and too serious for a bad Hallmark movie...

Using “Front runner” in the headline is misleading, since nominations haven’t been announced yet. They later refer to the songs on their unofficial list as “possible nominees” or in other words, contenders. This isn’t news, it’s just click bait.

Front runner - the contestant that is leading in a race or other competition

Nominee - a person or thing that is proposed or formally entered as a candidate for an award.

Contender - a person or thing competing with others to achieve or win something

As others have already stated, there’s a slim chance “Love Again” would win. Though I could see it being nominated purely out of sympathy for Céline.

There’s no question that they used the word! My point is that it’s misleading. Billboard does not determine who is nominated; they are simply making a list of eligible songs, hoping the big names will attract clicks.

Even if the song does get nominated, the “front runner” will be an obvious choice - like Billie Eilish’s song from Barbie - not “Love Again”,  which was in a movie that flopped. I’m no expert on the history of the Oscars, but I assume it is pretty rare to have a song from a poorly-performing film take home the award for Best Original Song.

Now that it's on Netflix, I finally watched the movie.  Not very good, is it?!  

It's exactly as expected for a generic rom-com, but even then it completely lacks any spark or inspiration to elevate the movie to a good rom-com.  Charisma-void stars, a bit of an odd tone throughout, and fairly leaden.  Every beat predictably checked off the list as you go through the plot.  Céline was fine - I was pleased she didn't go full-on kooky, but I didn't really find her to add that much, either.  I don't even mean that in a bad way - she was just kind of... there.  And her shooting separately was more obvious than I'd expected, although to be fair they did a relatively good job integrating the footage.

I do love a good rom-com, but as you can tell, I don't think this was a good rom-com... :)

I watched it for the second time, and I can’t help but wonder how many people stopped the movie within 30 minutes…

It was just as bad as I remembered, and I find it far easier to count the few moments that *did* work than the innumerable ones that didn’t. Even if the acting was up to par, the writing was so unnatural and unbelievable — from the sister, to the workplace banter, to the diner scenes — it all fell flat.

maybe the dubbed versions are better. I will check out the German version

Well, seeing it on twitter it's no.1 in US Netflix. Mostly, positive reviews. It's good! It's really better if it's released on Netflix instead on theater
