Well, the John Kats article says she never had plans to be there.
“In reality, Dion never had plans to appear at the event.
According to sources with direct knowledge of Dion’s day-to-day activities, the former Colosseum at Caesars Palace resident headliner has been in Las Vegas all week and weekend. She’s been tending to routine daily tasks, working out five days a week and singing with plans to eventually return to the stage.
[…]
Dion remained at her Lake Las Vegas home during the Eurovision event, despite widespread reporting that organizers were awaiting her last-minute arrival. Those officials did nothing to dispel hopes that Dion would show up, which fanned worldwide interest in the event.
On Monday, organizers showed a video clip of Dion expressing her affection for the event and host country. Her legions of fans were excited to see her check in. Their hopes were further bolstered when the BBC reported Dion’s private plane had been spotted on the tarmac in Basel.
This would be real news, if Dion owned a private plane, which she doesn’t. But we understand she owns a golf cart, which she uses to navigate the links at Lake Las Vegas.“
I guess the rest of the world has no concept of what being a Celine fan is like at the moment following her through this health struggle. Getting hype for your show is all you are doing to most people, to her actual fans this was cruel given the context.

Celine and her team are DIRECTLY to blame, for not putting rumors to rest. Period.

Agree, Celine's team could have said something but it really comes down to the event organisers. They had the media in the arena believing that she was there.

POPULAR
P.S. By the way, a shitty show overall. Polished on the outside, but messy, hollow, and soulless at its core.
And for those saying “but she already made a video saying blah blah blah” — we don’t care. We know that. That’s not the point. The problem is the blatant dishonesty of the media and the organizers, who chose to mislead the audience anyway.

Well, that's objectively bad form if commentators were "confirming" the appearance.
I do wonder if the organizers truly were hoping right until the end that she would appear - although if Céline never left Vegas and had no plans to, as reported, then that's a bit insane - maybe they planned for it and it was too late to change anything by the time they knew it truly wouldn't happen. The stadium stage would also have been an obvious venue that didn't end up having much function. As I mentioned earlier, there was a Lys Assia / Céline segment meant to be included in the Grand Final between the previous Swiss entrants and Kaarja/Baby Lasagna segments, and it just disappeared. They somehow managed to air the Grand Final without once acknowledging either of their only two previous winners.
And this is how we generate conspiracy theories for the next few years...

She specifically said she wished she could be there “tonight.” This was shown at the semifinals, days ago. The more the rumors persisted, leading up to the weekend, she and her team had the 100% absolute duty to clarify that she would not be attending the festival AT ALL.
Eurovision is to blame.
European media is to blame for their lack of due diligence in confirming the reality.
Celine’s team is to blame…for literally everything in her career.
Celine is to blame for not being present enough to make sure her name isn’t being dragged through the mud.

Something has me worried though- she wasn’t mentioned once during the final. The tribute to Swiss ESC legacy artists happened and no Celine- how is this possible? Did she in fact pull out last minute and they’re trying to cover it up by saying she was at home in Lake Las Vegas….im going insane

They didn't confirm it as such but clearly strongly believed she was there.

This post outta be PINNED…
Nobody is mad that she didn’t attend, we are mad that they didn’t STOP the narrative once it took steam.

This felt like the Jamacia Jazz and Blues Festival back in 2012 when they kept saying "Celine's coming" "Celine's coming" and then yanked the rug out of under us that they couldn't live stream her set. Somewhat different circumstances but the same feeling... absolute bull.

My thoughts are all over my head. Something is wrong.
If she was never going to be there, how so many independent parties (Bbc, dutch media, jamala, konchita) stated she would? And where did the dutch media get the snippet of PMLALS?
And what was the whole stadium set up for? Just for fireworks at the end? I remember someone was reporting an elevator for the stage, which sounds like one for cube

I suppose the stadium could have been set up just simply as a way of making a lot of money by charging people for entry to watch the show on top of tickets for the arena. Maybe it was never planned to actually be a proper stage.
I do feel like if she was supposed to be there they would have planned something related to her to replace her. I just think she was never due to be there. Remember she has largely avoided Eurovision over the years, the video in the semi final was more than she would normally give them.

Like all of you, I am very disappointed. I just hope she is doing fine health wise...
But sorry, if the organization knew she wasn't coming, they really pulled viewers over her dead body.
And regardless, I think they should have put the previous winner from Switzerland in the spotlight more than that poor NPPSM tribute during a semi-final.
