Celeb love for Celine

Love how the woman asks what budding artists they'd like to work with and their first name is Celine. They're like "screw new artists we want the Queen"

Of course they want Celine. I just want her to collaborate with more relevant artists. Adele? Hello?!?

"It was the first album I ever bought by myself, I was 11 years old and it made a huge impact on me. Up until that point I was mostly exposed to Country and blues music, but this was the first time I listened to a voice of that caliber. I listened over and over reading the lyrics in the liner notes, and was really drawn more to the album cuts, no so much the singles, as it was the hidden gems that were way more R&B, and soulful, and had glimpses of what I was finding in the blues. With every song I sang along to, it’s like I was reintroduced to my voice. I figured out I could do trills and runs, hit a high falsetto, and that my range was a lot wider than I had thought. Not only does Celine have magnificent highs, but she has strong defined lows, something not every female voice has, so she taught me how to control both ends of my voice. I memorized every note of that album, and still know it by heart. I seen her perform it live later that year, my very first concert, and she wasn’t just some chick singer relying on her over sexualized image. Yes she was beautiful, but she was also powerful, precise, fierce and fearless. I knew right there I wanted to be a singer and woman like her, one who would always come from a place of strength."

Here he is on Quotidien (starts ~16:40min).
To the uninitiated, the premise of the movie is a little kid who takes up a correspondence with a film star - loosely based on Xavier as a kid. At the opening of the film at TIFF, he read the letter he wrote to Leonardo Dicaprio when he was little. In this interview, he says he also wrote to Celine - wonder if he still has that letter / if she ever got it!
At ~42:40min they also ask him about his favourite songs - one of those he names is Terre.

And from her IG:

@sarahlorian You HAVE to. Honestly. It was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced hearing her sing in person!
Missy is so impressive. Had the chance to see her do her thing many times - first at the London Olympics (where she won 4 golds!) and then at Berkeley (she was on our swim team while I was in grad school there). Go Bears!

I'm pretty sure they're actually listening to the Jennifer Rush version though.

It's really quite something how many current and upcoming pop stars reference Celine as a big influence.
"That female empowerment surely comes in part from her mother -- a classically trained singer -- and the big-voiced divas her mom played around the house when Max was growing up. "She would sing a lot of Celine Dion and I would sing Celine Dion with her," Max says of how her early love of singing was fostered. "So that's how I got into the big vocalists like Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, then got into more R&B, the Fugees, and then into pop in the 2000s."

Yeah it's refreshing. Years ago when they interviewed Adele, she said she "secretly listened" to Celine Dion -- like it's not cool to let others know -*-. smh
