Celine Dion is one of my favourite albums and the most coherent albums in her English career. It's a strong follow up
to Unison with big (potential) hits and beautiful album tracks. Even though TCOML really confirmed her status as a Diva,
this album paved to way to big power ballad hits like TPOL, IACBTMN etc. Also her most original album because only IYAMT is a cover to my knowledge.
The videos made for this album were all so good in their own way, even the quirky LCMM! I hope one day we'll get all these videos on dvd!
Full of long songs, strong lyrics, pure vocals and awesome single covers! I wish we would one day get more photo's from that shoot.

I love the fact that the album cover was actually just a candit shot! Céline was still waiting for the hairdresser when the light hit her just right
and the picture was made.... It shows the relaxation that this album brings.

1. Introduction (1:15)

The only studio album with an intro. I still wonder why they made this. And of course who came up with the poem and music.
The introduction is one of the reasons why this album is so coherent.

2. Love Can Move Mountains (4:53)
Posted ImagePosted Image

The only old song she still loves to perform. I don't care in which tour, they are all awesome to me. Her best uptempo song, because
she can sing every part of the lyric without any big chances in notes or with any playback. It still gets the crowd going and just belongs in the setlist.
I'm surprised it wasn't a bigger hit in the day, because the song is uplifting and fun.

3. Show Some Emotion (4:29)

A strange song as a second song... It's a great song but it would fit better at the end of the album.
4. If You Asked Me To (3:54)
Posted ImagePosted Image

A great strong song, that got its attention till the end of the FIY tour. Eventhough it's not really known as a James Bond song, I would have liked to have seen a part of the song into the JB medley. I remember the video clip being used in a commerical for Arrow Classic Rock back in the day. But the last time they actually played Céline was probably in 1998

5. If You Could See Me Now (5:07)

A beautiful strong song, with good lyrics, emotion and vocals. I love these long songs! So much better than songs of 3 minutes...
Would love to hear a live version of this song one day!

6. Halfway To Heaven (5:05)

So sensual! So dreamy! A perfect example of a calm song, that Céline doesn't always need big notes. I love the build up and the bridge.

7. Did You Give Enough Love (4:21)
Posted Image

This song could have been a big hit. It had this amazing and weird video clip where Céline looked so sexy and strong!
A shame the plan to release this as a commerical single was abandonned in favour of promoting the snooze fest When I Fall In Love.

8. If I Were You (5:07)

Same as Halfway To Heaven. Beautiful lengthy song, but never at one point becomes boring.

9. Beauty And The Beast (4:04)
Posted Image

After WDMHBN her big world wide break through that made her into a household name. After 20 years neither the song or the movie has lost any of it's magic.
I read that they choose Céline because they didn't have any money left for a big known singer!  :sofunny: But this duet is just a match made in heaven.
I like Céline's part of the story more; that she at first didn't want to do it, because Dreams To Dream fell through and she was fed up with animated movies.
But of course after seeing the movie, she couldn't resist :P I am happy it's part of the show now. It deserves to be sung.

10. I Love You, Goodbye (3:33)

A very emotion song, with which Céline could probably relate to a lot back in those days. Her relationship with René was still a secret, and she
probably has thought about leaving him because it wouldn't work out due to so many reasons. She put her heart in this song.

11. Little Bit Of Love (4:27)

Awesome up beat song that would have been a pleasure to hear live. Simple but effective lyrics.

12. Water From The Moon (4:39)
Posted Image

One of my favourite songs ever! The notes and emotions in this song are so great. It's a song that regularly pops into my head.
The videoclip is very cool too! With a hot guy of course! What I don't understand is that this song wasn't released on a commerical cd single, but only on vynil and cassette.
Too bad cos this song deserved more attention than it got.

13. With This Tear (4:12)

WOW Prince of all people writes a song for you! DAMN! Not a lot can say that. But as usual this remarkable thing is forgotten.
I never really liked this song so much, but in the recent years I really started to like it. It got a bit of attention in 2000 by putting it on the Collectors Sersies Vol. 1
but that's the last time this song will get any credit I'm afraid.

14. Nothing Broken But My Heart (5:56)
Posted Image

OMFD! How I love this song!! It's a song made by a golden 90's duo: Diane Warren and Walter Afanasieff. I love the fact that it seems
that everything is just fine, that she doesn't miss him or cares at all, untill that great bridge:

So if you still think that I need you baby
I don't think about you
I'm happy now without you
Oh baby, you might think my world's been torn apart Oh but you'll see that
Nothing's broken, nothing broken but my heart

Probably her only sarcastic song in her career. I would die if she ever sang it live again! It's a shame this awesome song is totally forgotten.
Especially when you know that this song became number 1 on two charts: Canadian RPM Adult Contemporary  and US Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks.
It should at least have made it to My Love!

15. Where Does My Heart Beat Now (4:30)
Not an original Celine Dion track, but added as a bonus to inspire people to buy the album I guess. Of course this song is a gem. It kinda fits the album to me, because it was on my album when I bought it, but now that I have versions of Celine Dion without it, it is so much better. NBBMH wasn't written as the album finish for nothing!
But of course this wasn't the last time Sony made a stupid decision...

Great review Davey. Thanks a lot for your personal input. The videos to this album were just so good!! Each and every one of them has something special about it. I think Nothing Broken But My Heart is one of my fav. ever little unknown gems.

There aren't enough video's with people doing "Ring A Ring O' Roses" in them these days.

My very first Celine album and even now 20 years on it is still my favourite closely followed by Falling into you. Her vocals are sublime on this collection, i would love for it to get more recognition....and she could certainly sing some songs of this album when she tours again....i think its time that Celine covers Celine!

dont you know that love doesn't think twice
it can come all at once or whisper from a distance

I'm listening to this album again. It's quickly becoming one of my personal favorites and taking the place of The Colour Of My Love in my list of favorite Celine albums haha. I think the key of this album is the fact that almost all of the tracks from it are powerful ballads.

Here's something I've always wondered: Who decides the order of the songs in the tracklist of an album and why do they decide to put, for example, a song as the 5th track?
I've been wondering that myself.

Anywhos, there are a lot of great songs from this album but, it is my second least favorite album (One Heart is my least fav)  It just doesn't hit me the way her other albums do. I don't really know why it
just doesn't work for me.

LCMM, I Love You, Goodbye, Water from the Moon, If I Were You, BATB, and If You Could See Me Now are my favorite songs

You're welcome guys! I'm thankful at least some of you appreciate my megapost :)

:o You've never seen the NBBMH video? Shame on you! ;) It's a lovely video! A dvd with all her music videos is highly needed! My Love was a good opportunity, but Sony wouldn't know what that is, even if it hits them in their faces! -_-

OMG! I love Celine Dion! I loved most of this album but when I listen to this I quickly think about Mariah's first 3's albums. This album has some elements of r&B, or songs that were just r&b period. I don't find nothing pop about some of the songs that she sings like Show Some Emotion, Halfway To Heaven, and If You Asked Me To.

My favs are;
Show Some Emotion
If you Asked Me Too
Nothing Broken but My Heart
Water From The Moon
Halfway To Heaven
Apprends-Moi tes Secrets...

Song "If You Asked Me To" was released twice in the United Kingdom: first, in June 1992, when it peaked at number 60, and the second time in December 1992, when it reached number 57. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the single has sold 415,000 copies in the U.S.

I think Love Can Move Mountains is a great song, with lots of soul and emotion into it, but I'm quite tired of listening to it. I'll probably not listen to it again for a long while; letting the song rest for a few months will probably make the emotion of listening to it come back to me.
Show Some Emotion is, to my taste, one of the powerful tracks of this album. Can't believe her production team didn't give it a chance to be performed live, at least during the Celine Dion Tour or during the promotional tour Céline did to support the album. It's hard to believe that the only promotion that this ballad received back in the day was a short clip that shows Céline recording it in the studio.
About If You Asked Me To, it used to be one of my favorite songs in the past, but it has progressively started to go down in my "top Celine Dion songs". I put this track to rest for a while as well.
The case of If You Could See Me Now is very similar to Show Some Emotion. To me, it's one of the BIG 6 songs from this record and wasn't given any credit at all...
I'm not exactly a fan of Halfway to Heaven, it's just not my style. It wouldn't work for a live show, at least from my point of view.
The same can be said for Did You Give Enough Love. I don't think it's a track with any commercial power and Sony Music just proved once again how stupid they can get to be sometimes by releasing it as a single back in the day. Of course, Céline sang it live during the tour (it was a single from the album after all), and this (for me) boring song took the place of other powerful ballads in the show's setlist.
If I Were You is another huge powerful song. Her voice might not showcase the highest notes, but both the melody and the lyrics are flawless and meaningful.
I always found the song Beauty and the Beast perfect. Regardless the huge promotion the single always received, it hasn't bored me yet.
I Love You, Goodbye recently became my favorite track from this album and one of my favorite songs in general. Another powerful track that could have worked very well in a live show. Like I said a few days ago, just imagine Céline singing it accompanied by Mego playing piano on the stage at the current show in Las Vegas.
Little Bit Of Love is a song that I always skip when listening to this album. I can feel that Céline puts a lot of emotion in her vocal performance, but I guess the melody and the mid-tempo style of this track just don't catch my attention, at least, haven't done it yet.
Another powerful song is Water From The Moon. Thank God that at least this song received the credit it deserved back in 1992-1993. Just like BATB, I still don't find it boring regardless all the promotion.
With This Tear is, to me, the perfect song for a melancholic and romantic person. I've got the feeling that Céline will perform this song live again, at least one time, in the future.
Even though I consider it an amazing song, I'm not as caught and taken by Nothing Broken But My Heart as maybe I should be. I just don't like the melody, but again, It's a wonderful track.

You know, recently I 'discovered' that 'Show some Emotion' does remind me a little of a Mariah song.

Singer Celine Dion, whose duet with Peabo Bryson on the Beauty And The Beast title song gained her fame in the United States, is building on that success with a hit single and tour. If You Asked Me To - from Celine Dion, her second album in English on Epic Records - made the Cashbox magazine Top Ten with a bullet. And this summer she's opening 18 concerts for Michael Bolton. Certainly, she's still enjoying her breakthrough success from Beauty And The Beast. She recalled about a recent autograph session at a Buffalo shopping center. "Little kids, who didn't know my name, said: bye, beauty and the beast. It was so cute."

I'd like to share some thoughts with you. Right after the 'Celine Dion' era we got that crystal sound of Celine's voice and I used to be crazy about it. Then I heard 'Celine Dion' where her vocal are not that polished but really full of emotion. Try and guess what I prefer. I really think that around 1993 we actually started to lose the genuine Celine regarding her English works.

This CD just has so many really good songs. I either bought it in late '96 or early '97. Originally...I thought FIY was her first album as the first song I matched a voice to a name with was IACBTMN. Anyway....I bought this and "Des Mots Qui Sonnet" at the same time. I just really REALLY liked so many of these songs. Although one of the more successful singles from that album was "If You Asked Me To"...I found it rather mundane when compared to most of the the other songs. "Water From The Moon", "Nothing Broken But My Heart", and "I Love You, Goodbye" for example.

Then there's that one song.....

If I Were You. IMO....that's THE Celine Dion song that's most forgotten about. Sure it's not a huge belting ballad, but it's just so perfect. I look at that song as THE lost long Celine Dion song that's so beautiful that it dare not be famous. I don't mean to sound corny, but I'm a little drunk.

Eitherway...

I'll never get over this song. I remember when I was 13 (I'll be 30 next year) and listening to the "Celine Dion" album, and remembering exactly what I thought about this song as I listened to it on repeat over and over again.....I thought "within the overall career of Celine Dion....many songs will forever be remembered by society. Many more will be remembered by her die hard fans through all the generations. But This song will always be the hidden gem. The one that people always forget exists."  I still feel that way to this day. IDK what it is about this song, but I just love it so much! To me, it's "that one Celine Dion song that even the die hards forget."

Also.....any chance someone can make a karaoke for this song? It would mean a lot to me.

[media][media]

ETA: Sorry if we're not aloud to add videos this way. It's the only way I know how.

Introduction / Love Can Move Mountains:
Although it's a good way to bring you in the mood for the album, I never liked it being stuck to Love Can Move Mountains.
I don't want to hear the introduction every time I want to listen to Love Can Move Mountains.
It's been one of my favorite songs for a long time. Heard it a bit too often now. Also because she keeps performing it live.
I also bought two cd-singles, but I've always preferred the album version. (And I'm not that fond of Cry Just A Little.)

Show Some Emotion:
Took me a while, but now I like it.

If You Asked Me To:
Really love this one. Also bought the cd-single because of the track Love You Blind. I never understood why it wasn't on the album.
It has the same vibe as Love Can Move Mountains, which seems to be a favorite by Celine herself.

If You Could See Me Now:
This is such a strong ballad. Really love it! So much emotion in this one. Goosebumps all over!

Halfway To Heaven:
Like Davey said: very dreamy. Love it. Fits the romantic mood of the album perfectly.

Did You Give Enough Love:
Great up-tempo. Also perfectly fits the album. She sings it so sweetly.

If I Were You:
One of my favorites when I first bought the album. Still a great song today. I even got friends to listen to it and it worked: several friends fell for Celine because of this song and this album.

Beauty And The Beast:
This is the third song I every heard by Celine. I first took an interest when she won Eurovision with Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi, which was a minor hit here. Then she hit the top 40 here with Where Does My Heart Beat Now. But when she released Beauty And The Beast she got real attention here and I read an album review saying the album was even better than the last Whitney and Mariah releases. As I love both singers, this review had me go straight to the record store and after I listened to the album there, I bought the CD and it became my favorite album of 1992. I loved it so much, I even started to buy her older albums. But Beauty And The Beast did even more for me: it had me go for the very first time to the cinema to see a Disney movie. And I LOVED it. Ever since I've been collecting Disney movies. The song of course is great, the voices of Peabo and Celine are perfect together.

I Love You, Goodbye:
One of her best songs ever. So dramatic, so full of emotion.

Little Bit Of Love:
Love this up-tempo as much as Did You Give Enough Love. Both fit in so well here. This is just the perfect album in every way.

Water From The Moon:
I LOVE this song so much! One of my all time favorites! Great song, packed with emotion, beautiful vocal, love the lyrics.

With This Tear:
One of the best songs Prince has ever written. It reminds me a lot of one of his other songs: Nothing Compares 2U by Sinead O'Connor. Same theme, same emotion, same vibe. This song really gives me goosebumps and like some other songs on this album, it's an all time favorite of mine.

Nothing Broken But My Heart:
Great way to end this perfect album. The only small complaint I have about this song: when I play it on it's own, I find the song a bit too long; the end drags on a bit too much.

Album overall:
My all time favorite Celine album. None of her other albums even comes close. This is the perfect LOVE album. The whole mood/vibe of this album has written 'love' all over. It never gets boring as it shows love in all it's aspects. From love power (Love can move mountains) to absolutely being heartbroken (If you could see me now) to cherising your loved one (If I were you) to romance (Halfway to heaven) to having to leave your loved one (I love you goodbye) to doing everything for the one you love (Water from the moon) to even hearing the one you love is going to die (With this tear). A+++

Introduction / Love Can Move Mountains:
Thankfully, we have a calm intro. This song has great video, lyrics but it sounds just like any other club banger. Celine sings it great always. 6/10

Cry Just A Little Bit:
Ugh. Thanks god this wasn't on album. Boring production. 3/10.

Show Some Emotion:
Great song, same message as In His Touch. Beautiful production, lyrics. Vocally too. 8/10

If You Asked Me To:
This is really overrated song.  Nothing special. Just a solid vocal showcase. 6/10

Love You Blind:
It would be LCMM brother. Only because it isn't overplayed, 8/10.

If You Could See Me Now:
Underrated gem, great song. Lyrics are fantastic and deep. Celine pulls it off exceptionally. Not promoted, sadly; 9/10

Halfway To Heaven:
This is just so confusing. Great vocals, lyrics. Also annoying and head stuck. 7/10

Did You Give Enough Love:
Wonderful video, but to me it sounds a little unfinished in all aspects. 8/10

If I Were You:
I adore violins bridge. No more discussion, 8/10

Beauty And The Beast:
So glad she sings it Vegas again. But last minute of this song is so boring, just when I thought it will leave me speechless it leaved me sleepy. 4/10

I Love You, Goodbye:
One of her best songs on album. So silent yet powerful and dramatical. 9/10

Little Bit Of Love:
Not a copy of DYGEL. But in the end it gets repeating. 7/10

Water From The Moon:
Fantastic ballad. It needs a remaster. 10/10

With This Tear:
Prince is a great songwriter. Adore that 'delayed' ending. 9/10

Nothing Broken But My Heart:
Great way to end this solid album. Best song too. Best bridges, lyrics, MV. 10/10

Send Me A Lover:
Thanks god this wasn't on album. Awful lyrics, Celine isn't a whore. 2/10

Where does my heart beat now:
It fits! 10/10

I would give it 3 and half stars. Overrated. Mastering is terrible in some songs. Something is missing. Only this album didn't have it. I don't know what.

Every once in a while I play this album and am always reminded of how underrated it is. I love it. I'm always especially happy to be reminded of how much I love "If You Could See Me Now" and "Show Some Emotion." I used to hate "Halfway to Heaven," but even that song has grown on me (a little bit) in the last year or two.

I have to admit I'm not a fan of this song but my mother really loves it. Maybe it will grow on me someday. It happens, you know... You hear a song for the first time and think 'not my cup of tea' but as time goes by you get to appreciate it.

Interesting point of view... :hmm:  What is the thing you dislike about this song so much? Really, I'm curious 'cause I myself love it. I don't see anything wrong with the lyrics.

It's my second favourite album of hers. It's really laid back, I wish 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'If You Asked Me To' were excluded from it though as they do not really seem to fit in the total package. To me that is. Good for you if you think they do. I like the songs but they would've been better on 'The Colour Of My Love' album. I think 'Did You Give Enough Love' is really underrated and the song plus video should have had so much more promotion. They should have chosen this piece of art over 'Love Can Move Mountains'. Yet they still should have released the latter, but later, as it is a gem, even though people are puking over it nowadays, the CD verison is still ace. 'A Little Bit Of Love' is great too. 'With This Tear' and 'Nothin' Broken But My Heart' are the best ballads on it imo.

Me and albums always have a time of year. This is full summer for me, I can see myself chilling on the balcony playing this piece...skipping them two songs though.

To me that song is about a woman who only needs a lover. But she wants to get it not earn it.
