Hey guys!

Long time since I have been on here, but I read all the posts today and it sounds fantastic!  I hope the trip goes fantastic!  Amtrak called me yesterday and cancelled my trip to Montreal...So now I have to find another way there!  How can they schedule track work the one weekend a lot of people are going there more than any other?!?!

Anyways I hope we will all meet up and have a Celineastic time!  :D

Wake up everybody no more sleeping in bed
No more backward thinking time for thinking ahead
The world has changed so very much
From what it used to be
There is so much hatred war and poverty
Wake up all the teachers time to teach a new way
Maybe then they'll listen to what you have to say
Cause they're the ones who's coming up and the world is in their hands
When you teach the children teach them the best you can.
The world won't get no better if we just let it be
The world won't get no better we gotta change it

Hey, I just called amtrak and the lady said she has nothing saying anyting is canceled for those trips. I'm assuming you are going from NY to Montreal correct? Maybe she was just talking about the day I'm leaving. Maybe you can just switch dates. If there is any, I hope they don't extend the rail work becaue I'm not a fan of flying...nor paying $300 plus to fly when my train tickets were way less :(

Yeah the work is supposed to by only the 12 and 13th.  So just perfect enough so we can't reschedule for another train.  Now we are thinking about driving up...  Does anyone have any tips or information about driving to Montreal?

I drove up in August from NJ. It's not a bad drive, it's actually kind of scenic because you are driving through the Anirdondaks (sp?) the entire time. I forget what highway it is, but it is one straight shot up. My tip is make sure everyone has their identification to cross the border ready. It's not that long of a wait on the way in, but on the way out of canada you'll be sitting in line for a while. Get gas before you cross the border into canada because it's by liters once you get in and you'll be spending more money.  I was told the signs are in french and english, thats a lie, so have a good GPS system lol, or at least good directions written down. It's not that far away once you cross the border and it's not that confusing, but with the road signs in kilometers and in french it gets a little scary driving. For me anyway, cause I'm paranoid lol. A lot of the signs are pictures too which I found weird and sometimes hard to figure out haha. I didn't drive into Montreal so I can't tell you about that. I drove to my hotel in Dorval. Also get something to eat before you hit the Anirondaks because there is NOTHING and I mean nothing to eat while youre in there and it's a good stretch of your trip. Same with gas. It took me about 10 hours last time, but my friends needed to stop every five minutes to go to the bathroom lol it's normally supposed to take like 6-8. Let me know if you have any other questions about it. It's pretty much the same price as the train would be I believe depending on how your car is on gas. I had to stop for gas a total of three times once in the beginning, once right before I got into canada, and once on the way home. I'm from North Jersey though so it might be different from you.

Hi everyone, I live in Montreal and just bought my ticket for Thursday! I waited til the last minute to see how good a seat I could get.... and I got 2nd row floor north!   :w00t: It was a risk to wait so long but well worth it. They seem to be releasing some good seats at the "last minute" so keep your eyes open if you're still looking.

Hope you all have a very safe trip into Montreal and enjoy the shows! I'll report back on my experience on the 12th!

By the way - if you need any advice on where to stay, what to eat, how to get there, etc., feel free to ask. I've lived in Mtl for 7 years and am pretty familiar with things. By the way if you're American and driving up here, the signs are all in French but the symbols are mainly the same.... stop, yield, merge, etc. are all basically the same pictures. Just memorize the name of your exit on google maps and you'll be fine! If you cross the border at Lacolle, New York, just head straight after crossing and you'll end up at the Champlain bridge (Point Champlain). Take that onto the island, follow signs into "centre ville" and voila you're in Montreal. Mtl has a small downtown core... just follow Rene Levesque or Sherbrooke street between Atwater and Berri and you're in downtown. If you get lost, just park within that area and walk...basically the whole downtown core is within walking distance. Bell Centre is near Rene Levesque and Guy. Park in that area and you're good to go!

Hi Everyone, (this message has been sent out to the members of the Facebook group as well)

Please answer the following questions so that I may organize enough vehicles for Charlemagne, and confirm our reservation for Nickel's Restaurant. It would be great to know if you think you might hang out with us later as well.

So, please confirm the following:

I will attend the trip to Charlemagne: YES or NO

I will attend the lunch at Nickel's: YES or NO

I think I might spend the whole day/night with the group: YES or NO

PLEASE SEND YOUR RESPONSE ASAP as I need to ensure there are enough vehicles for our trip and I need to fax the confirmation of our reservation to the Nickel's manager by Friday!

Thank you in advance for your early responses.

Celinely yours...always,
Tracy ;)xo

The current temp in Montreal is 3°F I have it on my homepage because I'm that excited. Lol. It's been warmer then it has been in earlier January which was in the negatives so YAY!

You better should use the metric system :D  It's all negative temperatures right now and the forecast predicts the same, chilly, weather for the next 10 days :icon_mrgreen:

Hi everyone, I live in Montreal and just bought my ticket for Thursday! I waited til the last minute to see how good a seat I could get.... and I got 2nd row floor north!   :w00t: It was a risk to wait so long but well worth it. They seem to be releasing some good seats at the "last minute" so keep your eyes open if you're still looking.
You must be next to me!

Thanks so much!  I really appreciate all of your information!  :)  I googled the directions and it said about eight hours from where we are coming from (Philly).  But I am assuming it will be more on the ten hour side.  We are really nervous about driving up to Montreal because of the weather and the new requirement of snow tires...
I looked up the rules about the snow tires and some sites say they are in effect until Feb. 15 and some sited say Apr. 15.  So I have no idea.  My tires aren't snow tires so I was wondering if when we cross the border would they let us in since we don't have the right tires?

And about Greyhound, since Amtrak cancelled our trip they substituted a Greyhound bus ride.  However, we would take a four hour train ride then and additional ten hour bus ride!  So that is not cool.  If the weather is bad then the bus would be even more delayed.

This is going to be an adventure we get lost driving around in NJ!  And the signs are in English!  But then again anyone who is from NJ knows how the roads are out here...   :angry2:

P.S.  Anyone who speaks French and needs a ride, we have open seats!  ;)

So make a change www.thehungersite.com
