This is kinda weird but I started reading the series about a month or so ago just to see what the big hubba was about. I found that it was relatively "normal." It's the perfect "romance" novel except for the fact that the guy Bella's in love with is a vampire and the guy who likes her is a ware-wolf. Classic love triangle.
The books are simple and easy to read with a few big SAT vocabulary words thrown in. The author also spends half her time explaining mundane things (like Bella standing at the microwave waiting for a piece of lasagna). A lot of people I spoke to didn't like this and I could see how it could become "boring" at times. Surprisingly though, even to myself, I liked it. I appreciate all the time spent with the descriptions cause I sort of got a vivid picture of what was happening and it definitely helped set the mood of the scenes. SOOO... I'm on the third book, trying my best to be unbiased. For what is it--a teenage vampire story--it's not bad at all.
I do like the movies, initially for formal reasons like shooting style and stuff but it's definitely a good adaptation of the books. I saw them first before reading the books so I'm not a big stickler for how accurate the movies are to the books. I don't think it's ever possible to make a movie exactly like its respective book... you just can't.
As for the whole "team Edward/Jacob" thing, I've gotta go with Edward on this. It's Edward; he just has win by default.

And I can't get over Jacob's immature attitude.
Mmm... I guess this is one of those hidden "guilty pleasures." lol

And yeah... I guess I'm waiting for the fourth movie too. Part of me just can't help thinking that this whole mess could and would be avoided if Edward just turned Bella into a vampire though. Problem solved. Haha.
