CELINE DION
My Love (4:09)
Producer: Linda Perry
Writer: L. Perry
Publishers: Stuck in the Throat/Famous, ASCAP
Columbia
“Taking Chances” possesses dubious rights as Celine Dion’s least-successful album from the past 15 years—ever, in fact. Not surprising, given that nearly all of her original Sony proponents have exited the company, leaving few to embrace her command of an everlasting base—i.e., that of labelmate Barbra Streisand—if only properly promoted. Previous single “Alone” was a disaster, failing to even chart at AC. But now, as Dion’s two-year worldwide tour reaches North America, “My Love,” written and produced by Linda Perry, has struck programmers’ fancy—and it is truly an inspired choice from “Chances.” Highly emotive and yet graciously understated, “My Love” oozes ache and uncertainty, as Dion pleads, “My love, can you give me strength, somehow I forgot how to ease my pain/I stand tall to get by, no matter how hard I try to hide.” This splendid composition and Dion’s atypical delivery offer potential to save a career in commercial turmoil. If Sony has any intention of protecting its investment, “My Love” needs a meaningful embrace.—CT

Look carefully what he says, "...to save a career in commercial turmoil"
I hope René, who's said to read the papers and the critics, pays attention to this one

If that's the case then this must mean that there will be no more singles released from Taking Chances then?

I would also like to read one day in a review on Madonna or Mariah that their commercial career is in turmoil.... because their last album was even less successful than Celine's, even if they had a hit single.

am i just still in denial that i can never accept that TC is her least successful album? music market has changed a lot since the 90's when some huge artist can easily get Diamond awards everywhere in the world. she sold (or shipped, whatever u wanna call it) around 3.3-3.5M, and released to mostly positive reviews by some music critics. sales wise, it is nowhere near her mammoth Falling into You or even D'eux, but looking at some high profile artists, such as Madonna (in the US at least) Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson's albums sales, their sales are much worst than that of TC, but i think they're never tagged as "flops" (except Discipline which sold less than 600k worldwide since its release last February). considering the fact that their album is carrying a hit single. i'm sorry, i know i'm still in denial.

As for why there was no mention of the new Essentials album I can only take a guess - and Chuck tell me if I'm wrong about this. (I don't want to put words in your mouth/through your hands. However one would word that.) Maybe Chuck feels more strongly about the Taking Chances album and didn't like the decision to go with a new "best of" album quite yet when there was so much good material still left to be shared with the public from Taking Chances. By not mentioning the "new" album this will help boost sales for Taking Chances instead of the new album and show Sony even further how inept they are at what they're doing.

1 It actually is a song from her newest album,
2 it is full lenght and even more,
3 it is a true soulful heartfelt performance (a rarity in itself on this quantity focused quality forgetting tour)
But like I said your citicism is well founded, but I have a feeling it wont be heard by those who should hear it.

They will read it Fred, but 'Reney' and Sony won't pay attention to what's not of their interests...
Thanks again Chuck!
It's a very fair and objective review indeed. Great!

yeah very great and honest review! Now I hope René reads it, and really things about it! And I also like the fact that TC is mentioned, cos IMO that's the album people have to buy, not the Essential one!

well it is a least succesful one looking at previous Céline sales... 15 million of FIY and 15 million of LTAL... where did all those people go? I can't tell me they all downloaded it! Most people don't even know she has a new album out. And talking about singles, I do agree Alone is an amazing song and it stands out, but with zero promotion and a very cheap and crappy video, it was doomed from the start! EOM the same! if it was released right after the promo in the UK it could have done something, but again Sony was too late.
Taking Chances is an amazing album, filled with terrific and moving songs like This Time, Surprise, Surprise and fun songs like Shadow of Love and Fade Away, but as always pour single choices and bad moves killed the album! I hope My Love will do good, it is an amazing song, it's kinda the old Céline, but also new in a way. Plus it's her most autobiography song since ever! I hope the radio stations will pick up on it!
Rick, ik hou van jou voor altijd!
