Céline Dion Montréal/Charlemagne Tour 31.08.2008

Pour commencer, on parle français - si vous ne parlez pas l'anglais, donnez-moi in PM.

Celebrate Céline's last few concerts in Montréal!

 

From: Shesings2me (Tracy) & Alex_Incognito (Alex)

 

Proposed Schedule

 

 

Pick-up Time: TBA (to be announced)

You will be picked up at your hôtel/place of stay in Montréal.

 

1st Stop: St. Viateur Bagel Bakery: Taste why Céline stops here for delicious bagels and why Montreal is so famous for them. Céline's autograph is on the celebrity wall here!

 

2nd Stop: Schwartz's Deli (A Montréal tradition since 1928): Check out the famous jewish delicatessan where Céline goes for smoked meat sandwiches that are famous around the world. For all we know, she just might show up for a bite while we're here!!

 

3rd Stop: Céline's Star at the famous Montreal Forum (original home of the Montréal Canadians). Take pictures by the star and soak up the feelings of history and hockey glory!

 

4th Stop (Lunch): Nickel's Restaurant. We'll have lunch at one of the downtown Nickel's. Céline, René, and family were once part owners of this chain. Though they no longer own any shares in the franchises, Céline's pictures, records, etc still adorn the walls. Celine helped design the waitress uniforms here, and don't forget to try Céline's famous Chocolate Cake for dessert. To see the menu, or read information on the restaurant, click here.

 

5th Stop (Last One): Charlemagne, Québec. We'll take an approximate 1/2 hour drive East and over to the North side of the Riviere des Prairies to this off-island suburb of Montréal where our dearest Céline grew up with her 13 brothers and sisters. We'll cruise Céline Dion Boulevard until it joins rue Nôtre Dame. Take pictures by the Globe monument erected to celebrate Céline's connection to this humble French-Canadian community, and take a walk down rue Nôtre Dame to find the building which used to be the Dion family home.

 

Drop Off: You'll be dropped off at your hôtel/place of stay in Montréal.

 

** Exact schedule and price for this tour will be set once interest is established and logistics figured out. The organisers just want everyone to have some great moments with other Céline friends and have the opportunity to see some famous Montréal sites that are connected with her. In other words, we will make it affordable by just covering perhaps rental of vehicle(s) gas, and parking fees if applicable. We can pay for our own lunches at Nickel's. Once interest is known and price is set, we will most likely ask for a deposit which will go towards vehicle rental (if necessary). If we have 5 or less participants, then there will only be a cost towards gas money and perhaps parking fees as a vehicle will be available; this will be calculated on day of tour. **

sounds interesting! but i won't be there anymore on the 31, i'll go home earlier!

 

but i've once ate in the nickel's restaurant, it was really delicious! ;)

I was there in 2001. Celine's former house is now window store. The owner there took us on a walking tour of the building , he showed us the basement of the house, where the Dion family used to rehearse and also upstairs where Celine's "room" (actually just a corner) used to be. He was very very kind and told us that fans go there all the time from all over the world.

 

While taking pictures at the Celine globe we also met one of Celine's old classmates who took us down to her old school St Jude. A must see while you're in Charlemagne.

 

A must see in Montreal of course also would be Notre Dame Cathedral where she got married and where Rene Charles was baptised.

That sounds sooo awesome, but I'm unfortunately stuck on the other side of the world! Have fun and make sure to take lots of photos!!! :) I always wondered what her house and the town and everything looked like...

It's just off the island, about 15 mins to 1/2 hour from downtown/central Montreal; not far at all!! Are you going to be there at this time?

Thanks so much for the extra pointers. The glass store is now closed and so the old home is empty now. I am trying to get a hold of someone in Charlemagne to give us a more personalised tour. It's great that you were so lucky to meet the people you did in town. We will try to make sure we take a stroll by St. Judes too. I'm hoping people will be doing the Old Montreal tour (including Notre Dame) on their own because there's so much more to see in Old Montreal after all!

Hi all you beautiful Forum friends,

 

If you are anywhere near the island of Montreal on August 31st, attending a Celine show or not, please join me & my family, as well as Alex, Joey, Tam, and others yet to be determined in a scrumptous meal at Restaurant 9-4-10 located on the 4th floor of Montreal's Centre Bell.

 

The Executive Chef here had previous practice with culinary delights at Montreal's famous Ritz Carlton Hotel.

 

In honour of Celine's international career, the meal will be served Buffet-style including a French table (Ratatouille, etc), Tuscany table (pastas, salads, etc), Beef table (Quail, carved beef, etc), Fisherman's table (Salmon, Pike, Sushi, etc), and a Dessert table (last, but never the least, LOL).

 

The cost is $55. each and includes all of the above; drinks extra of course!

 

Please send a PM if you would like to come and want to be added to the reservation numbers. We can't wait to meet you!!
