A more self-possessed artist would certainly find ways to make it their own rather than adhering slavishly to what a producer dictates.  Unfortunately, Céline has never really shown herself to be that kind of artist - even David Foster has often talked about how Céline is phenomenal and will give you exactly what you want in take after take after take, but someone like a Whitney would never give you the same thing twice and was only ever going to do her own thing (this is not a Céline vs. Whitney thing - just an example to illustrate the point).

Can't argue with the results (most of the time!) - at the end of the day it's all about her voice, and some of my favorite Céline tracks were completely producer-driven - but she does tend to come across as a bit of a puppet in the studio.  Plus she has that tendency not only to replicate vocal arrangements but literally to imitate the demo vocalist, right down to their voice timbre.

That's simply how Celine works and relates to professionals around her -- and a lot of that early on was informed by the language barrier. Celine has been shown to be creative and she can really riff and be free when she wants to or is told to.

Like how Celine, on the spot, did that jazzy "Let's Talk About Love" improv while recording the LTAL album.

I think Edyta said that on purpose (she is known to be quite pretentious and full of herself a little) so she could brag that a superstar like Celine adapted her style. Who knows if this is entirely true. She also said that it’s a very long story that eventually ends in a full circle moment and that she will describe it in her upcoming book. Maybe she just came with that story now to make people interested and go and buy her book.

In my opinion, many artists were interested in I Surrender at the time, and ultimately the song was given to Celine for the ANDHC album.

We all wish that Celine would be more artistic in her English work and we know that she loves to cover songs. But on the other hand, some of her biggest hits are covers:TPOL,ABM, IACBTMN. And she made them her own songs.

The question is what does artistic mean to you. I think she took a different approach on the Courage album, on Superwoman, even on LMBTL with her bedroom voice and maybe for her it was very artistic to sing and pronounce words in a truly awful way as she considered it edgy and authentic. But for me as a fan of Celines cristal clear voice and beautiful songs this was quite weak and disappointing. I think she never sounded better than on ANDHC. Her voice is cristal clear, the production is spot on and very coherent throughout the whole album. There is not a single song where her voice sounds weird.

Agreed. I don’t care how “artistic” or not she is or what the means of recording and producing her songs are as long as I’m pleased with the final result. She can be a puppet or she can be herself, as long as I like the song she ends up putting out then I’m happy.

For Celine to make a big music comeback with a new album, it would probably need to be something like a duets album or a jazz / big band album or a Christmas album.

Something that would get the Andrea Bocelli fans & the Josh Groban fans & the Barbra Streisand fans & the Michael Buble fans to purchase her album. That’s the huge advantage Celine has over someone like Mariah. She appeals to & has clout with those sorts of audiences because she has elegance.

She could also do another song for a film. Now that’s she’s older, I’d love to see her do a sexy James Bond song like Shirley Bassey.

I’m hopeful Text For You has a new song accompanied by a new music video.

Yes! And if she could do a mini concert hall tour to support it. I’ve always wished I could see her at a venue like Lincoln Center or Carnegie Hall or Royal Albert Hall.

That’s actually a great idea. She’s done so much in her French discography yet this is perhaps the one big thing she surprisingly hasn’t yet done. Another idea that I think would sound cool is her doing duets with young trending Francophone singers. I remember how excited I was and how much I loved the songs written by Zaho for the EUS album. I particularly loved how modern the sound was. I would really like to see more of that.
