She sold a measly 1100 copies here in India in the first two days (and people got the poster too :glare: ) but she needs only 18900 copies to hit platinum here :P but that too in one calendar year :hmm:

Not bad if you compare it with the first 2 days sales of ANDHC here... it was around 2000.. but that album was superbly hyped and promoted here.. and the singles were heard everywhere (Heck! You can hear I'm Alive even today on the radios :giggle: ) but TCH wasn't played that much.. maybe once the album is promoted or something, the single would get played and simultaneously the album would sell well

Do you know the sales figures so far for the week?

I really hope she passes Westlife.

1. Leona Lewis - Spirit - 179.5k
2. The Spice Girls - Greatest Hits - 33.5k
3. Westlife - Back Home - 29.5k
4. Celine Dion - Taking Chances - 25.5k

:)

Thanks Shaun

Its all still fairly close. but its looking like number 4 - she would have passed Westlife if the single had done well. Everyone else has a successful single (well Spice Girls is the worst song I have heard in a while but it still looks like it will do quite well)
I never even knew the song the orchestra was playing........

cant wait for the results in the US. hope she will get the #1 spot.

in UK, i hope she will sell more than Westlife at least,

maybe Leona will be next week also but Westlife & Spice Girls wont be in Top5. hope celine will keep her position in the UK or reach higher positions

still waiting for the US

Sadly, I don't think will will see a number 1 in the US and I'm not even sure she will get it in Canada.  Alicia's song is doing really well at radio.  When I got my copy yesterday the stand was full while Alicia was bare within 1 hour of the store opening, and this in Montreal!!!  They were already repleneshing Alicia's stand.

ah well. considering she really, really is past her prime, competing with the likes of Alicia Keys and Chris Brown and Kanye et al... I think she's doing pretty good for me already.

Keys Doubles Dion's Online Buzz

November 14, 2007, 11:40 AM ET

Jessica Letkemann, N.Y.

With Celine Dion's "Taking Chances" and Alicia Keys' "As I Am" poised to vie for No. 1 on next week's The Billboard 200, past album sales and current online buzz suggest the young R&B star could have the edge.

Nielsen BuzzMetrics, which measures blog trends, shows Keys generating the most discussion in the run up to the release of her album. As of Nov. 13, just shy of .03 percent of all blog posts mentioned Dion, while Keys enjoyed roughly twice as much traffic, with just under .06 percent.

Keys' previous effort, 2003's "Diary of Alicia Keys" debuted at No. 1, selling 618,000 copies its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Dion's last studio outing, 2004's album of lullabies "Miracle," opened at No. 4 with 107,000, and her last pop album, 2003's "One Heart" landed at No. 2 with 432,000.

First-day sales numbers for the two albums will be available tonight (Nov. 14) via the Nielsen Building Chart. A recap will be posted on Billboard.com

Maybe they had just refilled the Celine stand before you got there since it emptied within 20 minutes of store opening...  :giggle:

The fact that Alicia has double the 'online' buzz doesn't represent anything- Celine's target audience buys cds- people on blogs and forums (apart from those run by die-hard fans) do not- they pirate and download illegally. Celine's cd will be bought by many thousands of people who are not into the internet and haven't a clue what iTunes is for example.

That's what I was thinking too. haha~

I wonder how's the response so far in Quebec, cuz I remember when LTAL came out, there were news reports showing ppl lining up in front of the record stores, waiting to buy the album.  But of course today's music industry can't be compared with 1997...

so we need to keep refreshing the billboard page to get the results ASAP?
i wonder what Celine might be doing in these moments.
i mean, she said she doesnt care anymore about her album sales, but i am sure, deep inside, she wants the #1 spot.

Whatever will be the results, Sony is winning

Stevo, completely agree. It's similar to what's happened in the UK with the download only single - a lot of Celine's target audience and existing fans didn't even know what this meant. That article from Billboard means nothing.

KEYS UNLOCKS THE CHART TO #1

J Diva’s As I Am Proving Strong Out of the Box, Celine Dion, Now 26 Trail

November 14, 2007

“No One” does it better than Alicia Keys.
The nine-time Grammy-winning songstress is at it again, with her eagerly anticipated third J/RMG album, As I Am, looking like it will easily top next week’s HITS sales chart, boasting a total that looks like it could hit 550k, according to those retailers not too shell-shocked to see records actually selling to take our call.

That would top the week’s other major diva release, Celine Dion’s Columbia bow, Taking Chances, which is looking like 250k and maybe more, with plenty of frontloaded TV for the Las Vegas star’s first new English language album since 2003’s One Heart.

That hits compilation perennial, Now 26, this time on EMI, follows with a debut of 200k, showing signs of wear from iTunes’ ability to cherry-pick the hits.

Rhino’s two-CD Led Zeppelin compilation, Mothership, arrives, hot on the heels of the band’s much-ballyhooed reunion next month, and could hit six figures.

MCA Nashville country legend George Strait is up next, with 60-70k for his latest, 22 More Hits, working the momentum of his recent CMA appearance.

Island/IDJ’s The Killers come next with Sawdust, a collection of rarities and B-sides, which could do around 50-60k.

Warner Bros.’ Seal is up next, with a debut that looks to be in the 30-35k for his latest, System, his first since 2003’s Seal IV.

Hear Music/Concord’s James Taylor will also be in the mix with a total that will be enhanced considerably by Starbucks sales, and as those numbers become clearer, we will bring them to you.

Meanwhile, Reprise’s Josh Groban is catching fire with his holiday-themed Noel, which has been out six weeks, and will be a contender for next week’s Top 5, with a total that could surpass 200k.

Thanks to the CMA effect, the market was up 7.6% vs last week, down 16.8% vs same week last year and now down 14.5% year-to-date.
