I know that.

I'm just wondering when she toured and sang that song so many times did she maybe use help from a vocoder? (Vocoder corrects the pitch of the voice, if you turn it up too much it sounds like Cher's "Believe")

Sometimes the note sounds suspicious.. like on the Millenium show where she didn't have the best voice at all..

 

I also know that there are 2 ways of hitting high notes. One is techically correct and one is not.

 

What do you think? Did she use her head-voice?

The version she sang on the album was an F, the version she sang live she hit a D. Majority of the songs she sings live she usually knocks it down 2-3 steps.

Yes, we can hear that clearly. She even said once that the F note was sooooooooo hard she was afraid it would hurt her voice on the recording day. So she must downgrade it for the sake of her vocal chords.

 

And I don't believe Celine would use anything to "cheat" her live performances correcting it with some technology. That's not Celine. We've seen her sing excelent and we've seen her singing in her bad days to, we've seen her going off-key....

When she sings live it just so powerful. and you can so tell that she feels every word that comes out of her mouth. I love when she gets all emotional because she uses it to put more power into her performance and it ends up a mind blowing experience to watch.

I ve been doing music for eight years(phonetics) and I've brought a cd with live performances of all by myself to my vocal trainer...she said that it is an F in all of them....so Celine actually does do the note but does not keep it that long plus she does other tricks....Celine has also said that it's a note she does't do in all songs so in just one she can manage and do it......no matter what, an F is a very high note for a woman to reach and maintain....

I agree with that, we can listen clearly when it isn't a good day for her voice and for me is interesting because I can see how she handle the situation.

Well Celine always sings My heart will go on lower. If you merge (play at the same time) the studio and any live version you will notice the difference.

The only time I heard her sing MHWGO with the same notes as on the album was on the Oprah Winfrey - where she sang it to the instrumental version.

 

The soundtrack version of MHWGO has even higher pitch then the album version.

Hm, yes, she doesn't hold it that long when she sings live. And besides in her late years it always sounded horrible, compared to how it was in the FIY tour and the early LTAL tour for example.

The live versions from FIY tour sound really better than on studio. She doesn't hold the note in one, but sings it with that raspy voice "Anymo-ho-ho-ho-ore" it sounds really good and a bit glamour rock, and her movements are so great. And as far as I can remember I read somewhere that she used pre-recording for some of the shows.

For me, the best performance ever of this song live was at Jay Leno. She does an amazing job with the song and the long note seems to go on forever. And it sounds so powerful also. I'm gonna risk it saying I prefer it to the studio performance.

That was actually a very powerful performance. I liked it and agree that the high notes seemed to last forever. Her voice was really on top form there. Loved it.

I really don't care what she use to reach the high note. This song (the live versions) are the ones i listen to the most, and still can't get enough of it. Besides when i heared it live in Rotterdam in 1996 it made me a bigger fan then i already was. It was very impressing hearing her sing it live so well.

Thank you for this video, Leone! I have never seen it before, actually! And you know what? This is probably one of the best live perfomances of All By Myself! Celine's "anymore' is absolutely pure, powerful and astonishing! When I downloaded this small part of All By Myself yesterday I was really SHOCKED! I knew Celine did perform that song great (always!) but I didn't expect to hear it SO great!
