True! The BeeGees singing was lovely. The Toni Braxton singing was rough. I’ve always skipped tracks like Why Oh Why. But on those songs she still sounds much more like herself than when she dies a Sia impression.

Unpopular opinion maybe, but I find that she sounds a lot like the Bee Gees on the TAST songs...

I guess Céline sounds the most like Céline in her French music. Especially D'Eux.

She definitely sounds perfectly like herself on D’eux.

There are also many English songs where she captures her classic sound beautifully.

Nothing Broken But My Heart, To Love You More, The Power Of Love, Beauty and the Beast, the list is long…

You're right... she does do that sometimes. Whereas she should always just try to sound like Celine Dion. Tina Turner was always amazing and consistent at capturing her classic sound in the recording studio and singing live.

Maybe for Celine, as her voice aged, she tried out new things because she found it more difficult to sound like her "old" self?

Her voice was so powerful and smooth in the 90s. And she's had some wonderful moments in more recent years as well... but when she tries to imitate other singers it just doesn't work.

I'm glad you brought up Tina! Since her death, I've been listening to her (Céline, who?). Tina expressed way more artistry than she got credit for during her lifetime. In fact, after this past week I think she's my choice for best anglophone singer. I think she was a better singer than Aretha Franklin (nothing against Aretha). The only recordings I heard where she doesn't sound like herself are actually with Phil Spector. Listening to RDMH now, I hear how much he suppressed her true spirit. I can't listen to it anymore. Even on the same album (River Deep, Mountain High), there were other songs they did together where you hear her actual voice. Anyway, I digress. Céline is always at her best when she isn't trying to imitate anyone else. Of course she can do it - and the results can often be listenable - but it doesn't ring "true".

The production on the Celine Dion album reminds me on Mariah, because of the same producer Walter A., but this album introduced the classic Celine Dion ballad sound. The same with The Colour of my Love, which David Foster produced. Of course she sounded a little bit like Whitney then, but it also captured the classic Celine sound. She sounds like the Bee Gees on TAST LOL? Maybe on Immortality, but it's OK, because she sang with them.

I agree, D'eux is her best and the most celinish album.

she sounds like Celine on Deux because she was probably not sticking to the demos of the songs, as they were either male voices, or these songs were specifically crafted for her and she did the demos herself first

I definitely hear a Bee Gees vibe on Another Year Has Gone By from TAST — I’ll have to think more about if I hear any other Bee Gees influence.

To me, her most powerful and iconic English recording is It’s All Coming Back To Me Now. She beats all other divas on that song with her vocals. It’s insane how good it is.

I agree with what Sam Smith says:

I’ve also been listening to Tina’s entire catalog. She’s such an icon. And yeah, I go back and forth on RDMH. Her voice is too quiet / drowned out on it. And it was sad that it wasn’t a big hit for her because that gave Ike more of a reason to have power over her.

Did Tina ever acknowledge Celine’s existence?

There are some connections between them… like Bryan Adams and Paul Shaffer.

And of course Celine clearly looked up to Tina… looking back at Tina’s incredible concerts — I notice how Celine took inspiration from her. Outfits, staging, gestures, etc. Seems like Tina, Barbra, Michael, Whitney, and Freddie all had a big impact on Celine’s live performances.

There was something so effortless and authentic about Tina. She had lived a HARD life. And that grit gave her an authentic edge.

There will probably never be another singer with so much character and life in her voice. Tina was one of a kind. And her personal journey of rising above so much hardship and reinventing herself made her all the more iconic. (Celine started to develop more of this grit in 2016 after Rene passed and she reinvented herself as a fashion icon. And her public perception started to shift for the better. People who once dismissed her as schmaltzy saw her in a new light.)

Makes me sad to lose such a real icon like Tina. There aren’t many left. Cher, Dolly, Barbra, Elton, Cher, ABBA, etc. The list is getting smaller.

I love Sia and her songs!!!! I wish Celine would have been offered “Alive” after Adele decided not to include it on “25.”

Imagine having an album where Celine sings Alive, Freeze You Out, Chandelier and Cheap Thrills. She could top the charts with music like this.

I agree, this is not Céline, but I would like to know the name of singer/group and the title of this song because I like it so much.

Oh, you don't have to be ashamed. At first hearing I thought it's Celine too.
