Celine Dion's husband, Rene Angelil, recovering from 2nd bout of cancer

The husband of pop star Céline Dion is recovering after having a cancerous tumour removed from his throat just before

Christmas.

Rene Angélil said in a statement released by his publicist today that the Dec. 23 operation was a success.

It says he spent a few days in hospital and that he is recovering at home in Las Vegas.

The 72-year-old Angélil was previously diagnosed with throat cancer in 1999, prompting Dion to take time off as he recovered.

The couple say they don't want to give interviews and are asking media to respect their privacy.

Dion says in the statement she wants Angélil to focus on getting healthy and to avoid the daily stress of work.

Is this the 2nd time that Rene removed the cancerous tumour? I didn't remember he recovered by removing the cancerous tumour or receiving surgery and chemotherapy in 1999.

Read about this last night, terrible news but it does explain why Rene hasn't been as visible during all the promo. I hope this news means we can stop all this talk of flop singles and other negativity that we've seen on the forum recently. . I find it difficult to muster the energy to even read through some of the more negative discussions. Celine took the time to shoot the music video for Incredible while Rene was recovering so the album promo hasn't been forgotten its just not as big a priority as it otherwise would have been.

 

The fans were very supportive back in 99 so im sure we will be again.

Celine and Rene will have plenty of time to talk about this publicly at a later date. Right now it wouldn't be helpful having the media bombard them with questions about Rene's health. We will be kept informed and thats all we can ask for.

I know -- I was really upset when I first read this. We don't know them personally, but we feel like we know them, and we care about them. Wishing that Rene heals quickly and completely and sending the whole family thoughts and prayers for healing and strength.

What I'm really confused about is.....when they removed the tumor, did they remove all the cancer? Or is the cancer still there after removing the tumor beacuse it spread?

 

Either way, I'm hoping he has a speedy recovery To be honest, I don't really mind if they don't give any interviews out...because if something horrible happens (knock on wood) we will know right away or in a little while, I'm not interested in details right now especially because Celine and Rene don't want to give any out.

Don't know those details just know that he had surgery to remove it in December.

They talked about it a lot the first time it happened because Rene becoming ill was what prompted Celine to bring her career to a halt while at the very peak. As popular as Celine was at the time, it was a huge shock to everyone from fans to people in the business. Celine also wanted to bring awareness to the fact that celebrities are just people like everyone else and arent superhuman and exempt from getting sick. Celine always made sure to let the public know how humbling it is as a celebrity to go through something like this. Right now, they want their privacy while Rene recovers. Especially since he is now 15 years older than his last bout with cancer. Is privacy too much to ask for while in recovery stages of a cancer operation?

not a good sign if its back. Hopefully they got it all. May not want to talk about it if it's not known yet what the prognosis is.

 

Must be very stressful time for Celine--and she's still doing her shows. Probably best to keep busy anyway

I worked in healthcare for a few years. It seems that he's going to be just fine. This was a removed tumor from the throat. As long as no cancer has been embedded into his tracheal, he should be alright.

 

Still....If something were to happen to him, I would have been crushed. I would have been genuinely devastated. From what I learned from working in the healthcare field......It's looks like he's going to be okay.

Wow. This is scary you-know-what! How she is doing her shows, being a mother, and dealing with all this is beyond me. Those poor kids, I hope they had somewhat of a Christmas with all this, And I hope the fans who didn't have all their facts before complaining incessantly eat their words now. We never know everything. Yes, Celine is an open book, thank goodness, but there are things always going on behind the scenes and people should suspend such negativity until we have all the facts. She always has a good reason for things even if we don't see it/think so! It's hard and annoying to read through all the crap people write on here. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I don't come here often anymore because the general consensus is usually negative and unfairly mean! I am scared to lose him because if we do, we could lose her. I don't know if she will go on when he leaves. I truly hope this is the last and final time they ever have to deal with the dreaded monster called Cancer. He beat it before and yes he is older but he can do it again!
