Celine Fan 77 Posted March 31, 2012 at 09:42 AM Posted March 31, 2012 at 09:42 AM Today, March 31st 2012, marks the 20th anniversary of the album Celine Dion. I can't believe it's been two decades since its release! Just wanted to create this topic so you can post your thoughts on this album. Which are your favorite songs? What do you think about Celine's voice? 2 Quote Tournée Européenne in Paris (December 1, 2013)Céline Dion Live 2016 in Antwerp (June 20, 2016)Céline Dion Live 2017 in Birmingham (July 27, 2017)
Bell Posted March 31, 2012 at 12:23 PM Posted March 31, 2012 at 12:23 PM My favourite English album! Thank you very much for this topic! I love 'Celine Dion', I like how her voice sounded then, it's different from all other albums. And the introduction is unique! My favourites are: Love Can Move MountainsIf You Could See Me NowI Love You, GoodbyeWith This Tear I actually like all the songs but these are really special. 1 Quote 16 YEARS A FORUM MEMBER
Celine Fan 77 Posted March 31, 2012 at 01:00 PM Author Posted March 31, 2012 at 01:00 PM I find the less-promoted tracks the greatest ones! Specially Show Some Emotion, If You Could See Me Now, If I Were You and I Love You, Goodbye. I feel they gave the album a true consistency while the songs that were released as singles gave just a form to it, I don't know if you understand me... hahaha 1 Quote Tournée Européenne in Paris (December 1, 2013)Céline Dion Live 2016 in Antwerp (June 20, 2016)Céline Dion Live 2017 in Birmingham (July 27, 2017)

Timster Posted March 31, 2012 at 02:12 PM Posted March 31, 2012 at 02:12 PM There are so many songs from this album she needs to perform again. The only songs that are still performed today are LCMM & BATB. The last time another CD song was performed was IYAMT back in 1997 during the FIY tour. These 3 songs are the only tracks from the album that stayed in her setlist after the CD tour, all the others have never been performed since 1993, and we have no footage from this tour!!! 1 Quote
frana Posted March 31, 2012 at 02:53 PM Posted March 31, 2012 at 02:53 PM Celine's second English language album, simply titled 'Celine Dion,' was by far her most accomplished recording to date with selections from such notable songwriters as Diane Warren (Cher, Gloria Estefan, Linda Ronstadt) and Prince, who wrote the ballad "With This Tear" especially for Celine. The album was recorded in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Morin Heights, Quebec between October 1991 and February of 1992. This is the album that prompted the Wall Street Journal to proclaim Celine Dion's voice as a "once-in-a-generation voice." 'Celine Dion' contains 13 songs including "Beauty and the Beast" and "Halfway To Heaven," which features the trademark saxophone of Kenny G. The material covers the musical spectrum ranging from the powerful gospel-tinged drive of "Love Can Move Mountains," to the sparkling funk of "Little Bit of Love," to the haunting ballads of "Nothing Broken But My Heart" and "Show Some Emotion." J-Man Posted March 31, 2012 at 05:23 PM Posted March 31, 2012 at 05:23 PM I'm so happy to see that If You Could See Me Now is being singled out by so many. This was my very first Celine album, and from the imaginative, sensual Introduction through to the glorious Nothing Broken But My Heart, I was transfixed. It's to me her best album to date, it's pure Celine at the height of her abilities. With This Tear, If I Were You, I Love You Goodbye, If You Asked Me To, Show Some Emotion, Water From The Moon... my God what an album. Plus songs like Love You Blind and Send Me A Lover that never even made it onto the final album. (Why aren't we seeing these on a 20th anniversary re-release Sony?) What a year 2012 is turning out to be in terms of anniversaries. If only anyone in the loop cared as much as we do. 1 Quote http://www.powerofthemusic.com/other/FORUMSIG1.png

Black Kitten Posted April 1, 2012 at 07:06 AM Posted April 1, 2012 at 07:06 AM i know i'm in the minority. i still find it one of her weaker albums. probably because it's 90% ballad. not saying it's a bad thing, though. i just didn't think it showcased her versatility as an artist/singer. couple of great songs i do appreciate. If You Could See Me Now, Halfway to Heaven (Celine+Kenny G= HEAVEN), I Love You Goodbye (apparently one of her biggest hits here in my country), Water from the Moon, With this Tear, Nothing Broken But My Heart. although this is not one of my favorite albums ever, i wouldn't mind having a 20th anniversary edition of this. but i doubt Sony will re-release this. 1 Quote

Javito Posted April 1, 2012 at 09:27 AM Posted April 1, 2012 at 09:27 AM (edited) I have to admit this wasn't a favourite album of mine when I first disovered it, but it was a grower with time. Like someone has pointed out, maybe it was because it contained too much ballads for me, and the previsible touch of Diane Warren's songs was too much to bear for my ears in a time when BYLM was starting to be an unbearable cheesy song for me. But when I bought the vinyl edition of the album and read the lyrics of the songs while listening to it, I had a closer and warmer approach to the album. Songs like "Did You Give Enough Love" and "Little Bit Of Love" are favourite uptempo songs of mine, and what to say about "Halfway To Heaven"!. That's another hidden jewel in Céline's discography. Céline + a saxophone in that song has to be one of her most erotic and sensual songs ever I also like "Nothing Broken But My Heart", "If I Were You" and "Water From The Moon" A few moments ago I was watching the music videos from this album and it was fun that, at the beginning of the video for Nothing Broken But My Heart, she repeats the tittle of the song so many times and then starts laughing. Yes, that was something like the anticipation for what would come 5 years later with MHWGO... she was already saying there's "nothing's broken but my heart. MY HEART??? Poor him, it will have to go on for AGES" Also, the ending of this video with that weird kind of medieval dance is funny, and Céline's hand movements... so weird but funny! The reddish hair she has in this video and the single's artwork is awesome Edited April 1, 2012 at 09:29 AM by Javito Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

Leo Posted April 1, 2012 at 01:53 PM Posted April 1, 2012 at 01:53 PM (edited) i know i'm in the minority. i still find it one of her weaker albums. probably because it's 90% ballad. not saying it's a bad thing, though. i just didn't think it showcased her versatility as an artist/singer. Back in the days when I loved listening to ballads (late 90s), this one was my favourite. Then, I started skipping some songs because it was becoming too long a record to listen to. But I still think it's one of her best albums and the only one that can be named "album", because the other ones are so diversified that they seem a collection of songs put together. Of course, unlike an album, they showcase everything she is able to do. BTW, this album was her only one to be nominated for a Grammy in the best vocal performance category. Including the introduction showed originality and that makes it unique in her reportoire. My favourite song has always been "If I Were You". Regarding a re-issue of the album, Sony could easily have added the two b-sides we already know and "Send Me A Lover" which apparently was a leftover from the recording sessions and a DVD with the recording sessions (there's footage on youtube) and the videos. But they just don't care! Edited April 1, 2012 at 01:53 PM by Leo Quote

Davey84 Posted April 2, 2012 at 10:08 AM Posted April 2, 2012 at 10:08 AM Celine Dion is one of my favourite albums and the most coherent albums in her English career. It's a strong follow upto Unison with big (potential) hits and beautiful album tracks. Even though TCOML really confirmed her status as a Diva, this album paved to way to big power ballad hits like TPOL, IACBTMN etc. Also her most original album because only IYAMT is a cover to my knowledge. The videos made for this album were all so good in their own way, even the quirky LCMM! I hope one day we'll get all these videos on dvd!Full of long songs, strong lyrics, pure vocals and awesome single covers! I wish we would one day get more photo's from that shoot. I love the fact that the album cover was actually just a candit shot! Céline was still waiting for the hairdresser when the light hit her just rightand the picture was made.... It shows the relaxation that this album brings. http://image.lyricspond.com/image/c/artist-celine-dion/album-celine-dion/cd-cover.jpg 1. Introduction (1:15) The only studio album with an intro. I still wonder why they made this. And of course who came up with the poem and music. The introduction is one of the reasons why this album is so coherent. 2. Love Can Move Mountains (4:53) http://www.powerofthemusic.com/images/singles/lcmm3.jpghttp://www.powerofthemusic.com/images/singles/lcmm6.jpghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iudvkW7_b1c The only old song she still loves to perform. I don't care in which tour, they are all awesome to me. Her best uptempo song, becauseshe can sing every part of the lyric without any big chances in notes or with any playback. It still gets the crowd going and just belongs in the setlist.I'm surprised it wasn't a bigger hit in the day, because the song is uplifting and fun. 3. Show Some Emotion (4:29) A strange song as a second song... It's a great song but it would fit better at the end of the album. 4. If You Asked Me To (3:54) http://www.powerofthemusic.com/images/singles/iyamt2.jpghttp://www.powerofthemusic.com/images/singles/iyamt8.jpghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bKuXbnGDqI A great strong song, that got its attention till the end of the FIY tour. Eventhough it's not really known as a James Bond song, I would have liked to have seen a part of the song into the JB medley. I remember the video clip being used in a commerical for Arrow Classic Rock back in the day. But the last time they actually played Céline was probably in 1998 5. If You Could See Me Now (5:07) A beautiful strong song, with good lyrics, emotion and vocals. I love these long songs! So much better than songs of 3 minutes...Would love to hear a live version of this song one day! 6. Halfway To Heaven (5:05) So sensual! So dreamy! A perfect example of a calm song, that Céline doesn't always need big notes. I love the build up and the bridge. 7. Did You Give Enough Love (4:21) http://www.powerofthemusic.com/images/singles/dygel1.jpghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bU-13ExoPUY This song could have been a big hit. It had this amazing and weird video clip where Céline looked so sexy and strong!A shame the plan to release this as a commerical single was abandonned in favour of promoting the snooze fest When I Fall In Love. 8. If I Were You (5:07) Same as Halfway To Heaven. Beautiful lengthy song, but never at one point becomes boring. 9. Beauty And The Beast (4:04) http://www.powerofthemusic.com/images/singles/batb1.jpghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgYEJHJXFB4 After WDMHBN her big world wide break through that made her into a household name. After 20 years neither the song or the movie has lost any of it's magic.I read that they choose Céline because they didn't have any money left for a big known singer! But this duet is just a match made in heaven.I like Céline's part of the story more; that she at first didn't want to do it, because Dreams To Dream fell through and she was fed up with animated movies. But of course after seeing the movie, she couldn't resist I am happy it's part of the show now. It deserves to be sung. 10. I Love You, Goodbye (3:33) A very emotion song, with which Céline could probably relate to a lot back in those days. Her relationship with René was still a secret, and she probably has thought about leaving him because it wouldn't work out due to so many reasons. She put her heart in this song. 11. Little Bit Of Love (4:27) Awesome up beat song that would have been a pleasure to hear live. Simple but effective lyrics. 12. Water From The Moon (4:39) http://www.powerofthemusic.com/images/singles/wftm1.jpghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVorQyjA6gA One of my favourite songs ever! The notes and emotions in this song are so great. It's a song that regularly pops into my head. The videoclip is very cool too! With a hot guy of course! What I don't understand is that this song wasn't released on a commerical cd single, but only on vynil and cassette.Too bad cos this song deserved more attention than it got. 13. With This Tear (4:12) WOW Prince of all people writes a song for you! DAMN! Not a lot can say that. But as usual this remarkable thing is forgotten.I never really liked this song so much, but in the recent years I really started to like it. It got a bit of attention in 2000 by putting it on the Collectors Sersies Vol. 1but that's the last time this song will get any credit I'm afraid. 14. Nothing Broken But My Heart (5:56) http://www.powerofthemusic.com/images/singles/nbbmh1.jpghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCzM6Spm3SI OMFD! How I love this song!! It's a song made by a golden 90's duo: Diane Warren and Walter Afanasieff. I love the fact that it seemsthat everything is just fine, that she doesn't miss him or cares at all, untill that great bridge: So if you still think that I need you babyI don't think about youI'm happy now without youOh baby, you might think my world's been torn apart Oh but you'll see thatNothing's broken, nothing broken but my heart Probably her only sarcastic song in her career. I would die if she ever sang it live again! It's a shame this awesome song is totally forgotten. Especially when you know that this song became number 1 on two charts: Canadian RPM Adult Contemporary and US Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks. It should at least have made it to My Love! 15. Where Does My Heart Beat Now (4:30) Not an original Celine Dion track, but added as a bonus to inspire people to buy the album I guess. Of course this song is a gem. It kinda fits the album to me, because it was on my album when I bought it, but now that I have versions of Celine Dion without it, it is so much better. NBBMH wasn't written as the album finish for nothing! But of course this wasn't the last time Sony made a stupid decision... 2 Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/daveyh84/incognito198701_zpsaaootxh1.jpgRick, ik hou van jou voor altijd!A New Day... has come 28/29 April & 2/3 May 07Antwerpen 13 et 14 mai,Paris 24 et 25 mai, Amsterdam 2 juinet Arras 7 juillet Chances Taken!!!How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th
