Javito Posted January 6, 2011 at 11:31 AM Posted January 6, 2011 at 11:31 AM Hi there! Do you know what this song is talking about? I'm not sure if they explained what's the meaning behind this particular track, but somehow, it looks to me there's a dark message, like a feeling of desperation and above all, resignation underneath this song Any ideas? I think its an interesting song, but would be even more if we knew actually why Céline picked it for the album! You know, its not the obvious cliched "love song" that we can find in all her previous albums , so that's why this song and its meaning intrigues me Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
celínico_sin_remedio Posted January 6, 2011 at 11:44 AM Posted January 6, 2011 at 11:44 AM (edited) Céline herself said that she thought it was all about L.A. palm trees, which obviously was not the real meaning; and now I think she could have said that deliberately. She's not silly, right?I also recall some talk about the polution in this city? Celinefanatic07 Posted January 6, 2011 at 11:50 AM Posted January 6, 2011 at 11:50 AM It's always bothering me not knowing the real message behind that song. It's always made me think that Celine was talking about how she's sad on a regular basis, or she is not satisfied with something. Guest Reuben Posted January 6, 2011 at 12:03 PM Posted January 6, 2011 at 12:03 PM I think it is a song about the environmental situation we are in "the future looks like the skies of LA". Ive come to like this song, one of my favorites on TC. Quote
Nando Férri Posted January 6, 2011 at 12:33 PM Posted January 6, 2011 at 12:33 PM What I love the most about this song is the fact that even if talks about a person who is totally lost in this world, she sings it so softly that sounds like it's ok, like she had already acept it in her life. And that makes the song even more dramatic for me... Quote http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4ejungtQy1r9swpco6_250.gif
Javito Posted January 6, 2011 at 01:32 PM Author Posted January 6, 2011 at 01:32 PM It's always bothering me not knowing the real message behind that song. It's always made me think that Celine was talking about how she's sad on a regular basis, or she is not satisfied with something. Céline a sad person? unhappy? that would be the last thing I would have thought she's trying to say in this song What I love the most about this song is the fact that even if talks about a person who is totally lost in this world, she sings it so softly that sounds like it's ok, like she had already acept it in her life. And that makes the song even more dramatic for me... Yeah, its as if the person who's struggling in the song has already reached a point of acceptation in his life... Resignation as I said But why Céline picked this song? I would love to know the reason behind and what the writer wanted to say in this track. I've never been this intrigued with a Céline song! (perhaps because its NOT a love song, and I love that for once! ). She should record more of this songs in her english career, not just love love and more love every time! Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

celine-rc Posted January 6, 2011 at 11:22 PM Posted January 6, 2011 at 11:22 PM I get a really dark message from it. Like, she doesn't really know what the future holds for her and even though people can tell you a whole bunch of things, they don't really know what's right for you and all. I see it as a bit desperation like Javito said. I think it's just the uncertainty of what's going to happen in the future. It's really dark and sad though... MrTim212 Posted January 6, 2011 at 11:29 PM Posted January 6, 2011 at 11:29 PM (edited) Terius "The-Dream" Nash who wrote the song said that it had to do with pollution in LA and just the overall disregard for the environment worldwide. I think it's definitely a message of desperation. "Everyone has a finger, but they can't point me to the light." and "I don't know if tomorrow has a day and I don't know if the rays will shine my way again" -- almost like "everyone wants to blame someone else for the problems, but they can't point me to a solution" and "maybe it's too late to save the environment." CelineDork14 Posted January 7, 2011 at 02:17 AM Posted January 7, 2011 at 02:17 AM This song could have multiple meanings..but my opinion is that she dosen't know what the future holds for her...and their's alot of pollution in L.A like the skies are filled with smog or something like that...so when she says "My future looks like the Skies of L.A" the skies of L.A are not Clear and nether is her future..i also think it could be about the world and the people in it..like in the beginning it says "Its so sad what we have become" Maybe it means that its so sad what people say and do to each other, and how people can be so heartless sometimes, but when it says "everyone has a finger, But they can't point me to the light, It can't be that hard to find After all it's so bright" i think that means that we are so blinded by our worries and depression that we can't see the good anymore, we don't feel happyness anymore, yet its all around us, just waiting for us to open our hearts to see a better life, a better way to live.. i don't know what this song truly means, but i think it has alot of truth in it Quote The Greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to Love and be Loved in return.

RomualdlovesCeline Posted January 7, 2011 at 05:03 AM Posted January 7, 2011 at 05:03 AM (edited) I think that just like Taking Chances, the song talks about her hazy future; she doesn't know if she has a future in show business; when she says "My future is a like the skies of LA" she means she has an uncertain future in showbusiness IMO. In TC, the first line says "You don't know about my past and I don't have a future figured out ... and maybe it's not meant to last". I don't know if I'm reading too much into it but the lyrics clearly express also an uncertain future for her career in showbusiness. Edited January 7, 2011 at 05:04 AM by RomualdlovesCeline Quote

celínico_sin_remedio Posted January 7, 2011 at 02:49 PM Posted January 7, 2011 at 02:49 PM (edited) It's funny how we go on making speculations when we have the real data and information posted on this topic. Terius "The-Dream" Nash who wrote the song said that it had to do with pollution in LA and just the overall disregard for the environment worldwide. I think it's definitely a message of desperation. "Everyone has a finger, but they can't point me to the light." and "I don't know if tomorrow has a day and I don't know if the rays will shine my way again" -- almost like "everyone wants to blame someone else for the problems, but they can't point me to a solution" and "maybe it's too late to save the environment." Here's an article about the song from the LA Times: http://articles.latimes.com/2008/feb/24/en...ment/ca-socal24 'Maybe, but the call to action may be lost on some. Dion describes the song as "a little jewel," but it's clear that even after recording it, she was captured by its melody, not its message. "I didn't know that it was about environmental things, to be honest. It made me think of palm trees," she said. "And that's OK -- songs mean different things to people."' Thanks MrTim. I see it weird she doesn't remember having sung a song called "I Remember L.A." as she describes its own message from the Unison era. But it's understatable she may forget many songs of her own repertoire when always singing the same ones. It's called René-effect. Oh and! She doesn't't mean anything on any song, because she isn't a writer nor composer. The meanings are given to her... except with "Vole", which i think was written by JJ Goldman when he knew about Karine's death and Céline had told him her feelings about the decease. There may be some more exceptions. That's why I want her to compose more, so that she feels the things she's singing. celinerific Posted January 7, 2011 at 06:16 PM Posted January 7, 2011 at 06:16 PM (edited) The song is essentially about the environmental crisis that we're all facing. This is my take on it:(I colour coded it grouping each verse + interpretation together ) It's so sad what we have becomeBeautiful days we seem to leave so undoneAnd I don't know where we will go from hereAll I know is that I can't seem to see the sun Through the sky from here (This is interpreted as: it's so sad that we take the earth for granted and don't think about the consequences. All the beautiful days that we used to experience no longer exist. And there's no way to see what will happen if we keep on going down the road we're on. The world is so polluted and the air is so contaminated that the sun can't even be seen anymore.) Everyone has a finger But they can't point me to the lightIt can't be that hard to find After all we're so bright (Interpretation: Everyone has ideas, but they don't know what the right thing to do is. Surely, it can't be that hard of a problem since we have so many intelligences at our disposal, so much knowledge and so many technological advancements.) I don't know if tomorrow has a dayI don't know if the rays will shine my way againAll I know is that I'm standing in a place whereMy future is like the skies of L.A.Skies of L.A. (Interpretation: There may be no tomorrow if we continue to pollute the earth. There is no way to know for certain if I'll ever be able to feel the rays of the sun again. Although where I am now the skies are still blue and still embody the presence of the sun, my future looks as polluted, cloudy, muggy, and uncomfortable like the skies of L.A.) Skies of L.A. I don't know if my body can take much moreWe're in the line of the richest richesBut my mind seems so poor (Interpretation: Our health also suffers as a result of such an epidemic. We have so many ideas, goals, resources and much more, but everyone is losing faith in what we are capable of doing.) Everyone has a finger But they can't point me to the lightIt should't be that hard to find After all we're so brightI see so many visions But everyone seems out of sightThis is total neglection of the lightSkies of L.A.
