Celine doesn't ALWAYS have to be ranked #1 on a list guys Although she is the best vocalist and singer on the list in my opinion and always will be #1 to me #5 isn't bad I think Aguilera should have been ranked a little higher, In Lady Ga Ga's defense she has only had two albums and is #58 not bad.

please keep in mind that those are just sales in the US. not worldwide. Celine is ahead of Barbra, Mariah and Whitney, worldwide sales-wise.

Except for one! Cher at 38? Really?

I'd think she'd be much higher.

 

 

 

and you all need to remember that Mariah has the most #1s in America for any solo artist.

even if you dislike her, she still has that to her name.

And heck she might have even sold more albums in the US than Celine (not sure.)

I am not a fan of Mariah but she does well in the way that she caters to a younger audience so singles wise she probably charts a lot better these days.

But a reason for Mariah is, that the US are her main market, more then 50% of the sales of her albums are from the US! Céline sells more outside the US like Canada, and Europe!

Mariah's ratio is more like 55% outside of the USA vs 45% inside

If we continue to buy Celine Dion's albums and Celine continues to release more albums, she would be able to switch with Whitney and take the number 4 spot. So far,among the top 5, Whitney is the least-selling female artist currently. So that's why Celine has a chance, even if Whitney would continue to release albums.

I think I've said this but I'll say it again - the RIAA tracks US shipments, and the only time they update the totals for any artist, is when that artist's label approaches and pays the RIAA for the certification. Celine's label are awful at certifiying Celine - she's undercertified majorly in Canada, the USA, the UK, Australia, Japan, Germany, France and most other nations.

 

Celine Dion's RIAA total is 50m shipments. However, I estimate that she has sold closer to 61m shipments; Whitney has done 56m shipments in the USA, so Celine has shipped more than Whitney, just not by the RIAA standards. Look at albums such as Falling Into You: Sold 10.7m Soundscan, 1m BMG, a similar amount via Colombia (its sales are over 13m copies across the USA) - but its its only certified for 11m copies.

And since this thread is about the most successful female artists in American History, we better adhere to that. Also, if you take radio plays into perspective, I think Celine loses out to both of them.
